This is my own experience during my stay (as I write I am still in Seoul).
Before coming here, I had lot of misconception about Korea and Koreans based on what I read on Quora and other sites.
Here is my experience:
The Koreans whom I got chance to interact with both at workplace and outside are very humble and receiving in nature. I always felt receptive and caring.

For instance, due to less English usage in general, it’s difficult to book taxi by yourself, so my colleagues use to book for us and they use to come along with us and be with us until we board as a courtesy. And even outside, any stranger would gladly assist you in directions with whatever little English he/she understands.
Me being strict vegetarian, it’s very hard to find decent food as most of Korean dishes contains meat or it’s by products. Having understood my situation, my colleagues at workplace were always concerned and careful when we use to go out for dining and office lunches. They use to talk to chef’s and arrange to get suitable item for me.
In general, I found very common even strangers greet in Korean style bending forward and smile.
Koreans love Indian food. Especially Naan and Chicken Curry. However, they find Indian food quite expensive compared to local cuisine. To my surprise, there are many Indian restaurants in Seoul.

Koreans take extra care when it comes to hygiene. I observed people brush their teeth just after lunch. I was amused to see people lined up in office washrooms brushing their teeth after lunch !!! Their bidets are automatic and has many features.
Not sure if it’s common. But I observed, Koreans especially men doesn’t take much interest in their outfit and looks. I often find people both at workplace and outside shabbily dressed.
Finally, when it comes to middle-class situation, although Korea is highly developed country, the challenges and economic difficulties of middle class professionals is same everywhere. Bills, Installments, Expenses, less-saving is a global phenomenon. :) :)
I enjoyed my stay in Seoul. Would love to return in future.

The problem in South Korea is that there very less exposure to other cultures, so Koreans cannot tell the difference between Arab and Indian stuff. For example, when the context is Arab or Muslim, KBS will play Tunak Tunak in the background. I sometimes feel that Koreans are the Americans of the East (sorry guys! just a joke :) ) in terms of foreign knowledge and exposure.
Koreans have prejudices that apply to a wide range of people who are from hotter, tropical climates. It has nothing to do with nationality, but more with perceived hygiene and manners about which, Koreans have OCD. This applies to anyone from a tropical country. Nigeria, for example.

Navya V
例如,当背景是阿拉伯或穆斯林时,KBS电视台会在背景中播放Tunak Tunak(译者注:也就是中国人所熟知的《我在东北玩泥巴》)。

Smelly, dirty, washes butt with hands, etc.these are some pet peeves in Korean hygiene.
Koreans do not like people who eat with their hands. They find this disgusting. They even use gloves to eat finger food. So yeah.
They also derive their stereotypes about Indians from the poor people who work in the country. They might not trust you. That has happened to me twice. Like they think that you might scam them or something.
But this isn’t the case for educated Koreans who travel, study or work abroad, are fluent in English or don’t perceive Indians as dangerous people. Special shoutout to my friends!
With my Korean interactions I haven’t had any extreme cases of racism. Most of them think that I am Latina (medium skin tone). Sometimes I feel like I should prank them and say that I am Latina. That’ll be funny.

But yes they do tend to avoid foreigners in general and may avoid you quietly because they don’t have a good impression of you enough to trust you based on nationality. This is NOT their fault, but the fault of the trashy people who spoil India’s reputation everywhere they go. Since I have travelled a lot, I would say that Korean prejudice is the most subtle and least disruptive, compared to what I’ve experienced otherwise. Its because of their manners and nature,I guess. One of my friends said that English/communication is the problem. The more fluent guy in the group needs to translate your questions to the others.
That said, elderly people may not be accepting of you. If you read up on cases of prejudice against foreigners in Korea, its mostly people in the category of 50 years and around that who are the perps. Thats a given for any nationality. Old people, dumb old ways of thinking. The Korean professor I met was nice to me though! He even said that I could ask him any questions about Korea.

Once they get to know you all this awkwardness changes. They’re actually grateful to you for liking their culture and will say thank you with a wide smile. They’ll help you learn Korean. They’ll be SHOCKED if you say just anything in Korean and say that your Korean is quite good.
Colourism exists in Korea and thats not something that is equal to racism. It is mistaken for racism. In that case, even Indians have colourism (fairer skin is better) too so I don’t think its a big deal. A lot of African Americans live in Korea. They do make a lot of videos and do address colourism in them. Colourism in Korea is not race/nationality specific. It applies to dark skinned Koreans too!
So in conclusion, not popular, except for the notion of naan and curry.

Originally Answered: What do South Korean people think about India and Indians?
So, i think i am qualified enough to write this answer because i have been to south korea 9 times in last 3 years for a span of around 45 days each time !
Koreans in general are very well mannered and helpful.
Let me prove my claims :
Koreans are helpful : As google maps doesn’t works nicely in south korea, you have no option other than to ask people and expect them to understand english. But No matter whether they understand English or not they will try their best to help you reach your destination. Most of the times they have come with me to the destination, just to make sure i don’t go in wrong direction. This has happened more than 10 times and with different people. At most if they don’t understand you they would say a “Obseyo” a korean version of “NO” or “Don’t know” with a sorry face !

Ashish Kumar Singh

Koreans are well mannered : They greet you very nicely if they know you, even if they don’t know you most of the times you can receive a gentle smile from them as a gesture when your eyes meet. So that feels good. This has happened so many times. I have seen the top most officials bowing down and greeting in a beautiful way even if they don’t know you !
Now lets see how are Indians treated in south korea :
South Koreans generally don’t know much about India and Indians except that Indians are good in IT and its a land of spirituality, poverty ridden people, a place where women are not safe. So in general they don’t know much and if some of them know then the positive image is because of the spirituality and IT thing and the negative image is because they think rape is common in India and women are unsafe and because of the poverty and poor people.

So with all this in their mind, they don’t have much respect for Indians in general. As an Indian in South Korea you can feel that people don’t like you much in general except if you have some personal connection.
But, even with all this they never treat Indians or any one badly, as i said they are well mannered and civilized. They will help you and greet you well, but nothing more should be expected apart from that, because they don’t have reasons to be extra nice to you !
South Koreans imitate and follow the US a lot and hence you can see that they prefer the people from English countries far ahead than Indians or others. So take it for granted that if a Korean girl has to choose between an Indian or the American for dance in a club, she will for sure choose the American one, that decision won’t take 1/1000th of second in her mind.
This is a general picture, personal experiences might vary and some negative incidents could be called as occasional racism but that is not true in complete sense, if the complete picture is taken into account.

4.Jeet Dhindsa
, Foreign Expat Living and Working in Korea
How popular a country is to Koreans depends upon what they envy.
Generally speaking, Koreans tend to envy developed nations with material wealth, whose people possess physical beauty and lifestyle traits they admire, and if the nation is externally validated by some list or measure important to Koreans (usually western standards).
This makes sense since Korea was once considered one of the poorest countries in the world less than 70 years ago, so the criteria of so-called developed or wealthy nations can become the benchmark for what’s popular or favorable to Koreans.

Jeet Dhindsa

Some Context
Korea is often overshadowed in world news & politics by North Korea’s unpredictable antics and behavior. That’s why South Koreans feel they need to distance and distinguish themselves from the North. One of the key ways they do this is through earning achievements on global scales, metrics, and measures that will make them seem superior, developed, and modern in comparison to North Korea. They want to make their mark on the world and make up for lost time as a hermit and isolationist country that later became a colony in the shadow of Japan’s former empire.
Korea itself has yet to make a timeless dent or significant contribution towards the global body of human knowledge, culture, and civilization.

India on the other hand, despite having made monumental contributions to the development of human civilization, a source of great pride, is by no means a financially developed and materialistically wealthy nation by the same standards and measures sought after by Koreans today.
India’s most significant exports are ideas (spiritual practices, sciences, and art); enlightened beings (Buddha, Osho, Yogananada, Sadh Guru, Gandhi); and smart people. Very, intelligent people like the scholar Ramanujan (known for mathematical infinity), and the current and former CEOs of Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Pepsi, Citigroup, etc.… who are all Indian.
Keen outside observers often note that Korea seems to bounce between a superiority/inferiority complex, which fuels Korea to strive for external validation by constantly seeking competition, status symbols, and scoring points in western and global popularity contests such as the Olympic Games, Asian Games, World Cup, OCED & UN rankings, G20 Summits, etc…

India is not stricken with or afflicted by the same inferiority/superiority complex dynamics that fuel competitive drive in the Korean national psyche. Indians do not get as excited or fired-up by global or western competition as the Koreans do. India does not strive to say, “me-too!” on a pantheon of highly developed nations, because for Indians, their core value systems across many religions and philosophies emphasize that worldly achievements are an illusion and distraction from living a happy life and attaining success, which for Indians, is more about rich metaphysical experiences than having physical possessions.
All Indians don't shun having possessions, but they don't want to become possessed by possessions. And Korean consumerism may be at odds or clash with this intrinsic idea that's held by many Indians.

Moreover, India is not a homogenous country like Korea. It is a multicultural nation with large and distinct groups that can be considered separate nations based on their racial differences, religions, languages, and culture. Even if India wanted to chase after the external validation mentioned above it would be more challenging if not impossible to rally and unite the whole nation for these materialistic causes.
This is why Indians don’t tend to score popularity points with the Koreans because they’re not a high ranking player in the games the Koreans are interested in playing.
To illustrate this point take the perception the average and ordinary Indian will have of the British versus the attitude an everyday Korean will have of the Japanese. Indians have had a deep, rich, and turmoiled colonial history with the British, as the Koreans had with the Japanese, yet if Indians were to size up and measure English society and culture they might think it’s spiritually bankrupt and culturally bland for lack of taste, tradition, life, and vibrancy. There wouldn't be a compulsion to “show them,” the British, except maybe in cricket matches.

The Koreans, on the other hand, will also look at the Japanese, their former colonial master, with a degree of bitterness as a former colony, but underneath the surface, the Koreans will have a sense of vengeful envy (“one day I’ll show you”) and feel a sense of victimization and inferiority towards Japan. They will feel a compulsion to one-up Japan in material wealth and match or surpass their perceived notion that the Japanese have a seemingly more sophisticated or superior society to them.
Indians care about different things and vibrate at a much different frequency than Koreans, so Indians will not exactly score points on the popularity charts Koreans are watching.

5.Somang Yang
As a Korean who has spent most of my life in India, I wholly agree with these observations. A minority of Koreans (artists, intellectuals, spiritual people) have a favorable view of India for its historical and current contributions to intellectual and spiritual achievements (Buddhism, yoga, Rabindranath Tagore etc). But a majority of Koreans, who have a materialistic mindset are puzzled and appalled by India's lack of economic development, public safety, public hygene etc. However, almost all Koreans admit that India is one of the world's great civilizations. Those who have been to India have polarizing views, based on their personality and experience (but that is true of almost everyone who visits India, regardless of nationality; they either love it or hate it, no one has a neutral view). The younger generation with more exposure to Indian food, friends and culture (3 Idiots, or pretty much any Amir Khan movie!) have a more nuanced view.

6.Jasmine Rhodes
Honestly, I agree with everything said here. Living in Korea for some time, I’ve noticed that they take influences from all around the world and incorporate it into their culture, like the cute cafes and fashion etc. and I don’t think this is completely “money-minded”, aside from the beauty standards, if you’re a korean in South Korea, even as a person in the middle-class you’ll live a pretty happy life. I’m 100% Indian and I lived in India when I was little- when I moved to Korea I was kind of jealous that people in India don’t care to keep things as clean and organized as they do in South Korea and it, along with things I’ve never considered before such as skin tone, turned into something that people used to generalize, look down on and invalidate my culture for, despite me growing up knowing how India is so much more than that. This is a little off-topic from the original question but since you mentioned it, I think if India improved these things it would be better for the country and people in general, not about validation from other countries.
