I am heartbroken for the victims and their families, and I am so very sick and tired of this country’s love affair with their damn guns. I spent much of my life in Europe and I wish to God I could go back! Family obligations are the only thing stopping me.

New Zealand experienced a mass shooting after this Australian legislation was passed, and the culprit was, in fact, an Australian citizen. In the U.S., gun laws and policies differ by state, so for the U.S. to end gun violence, we would have to have strict gun laws/policies on the federal level with limited to no freedom of the states to alter the law; however, this would only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. If someone wants to cause harm to others (or commit a mass shooting) he/she will obtain the means no matter what the laws say. Additionally, if someone wants to commit a mass shooting, but they cannot purchase an assault weapon, they will find another way to obtain it.
