Olympics, a multi-nation multi-sport event that happens once in every four years, is the greatest sport spectacle in the World. The last time an Olympics event happened was in 2016 at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. It was due to happen in 2020 at Tokyo, Japan in 2020. But it got postponed owing to the pandemic.

A report suggested that almost 60% of the citizens in Japan do not want the Olympics to happen at Tokyo this year. Let's keep aside the public opinion and look at the factors threatening the event.

· Pandemic situation around the world.
· Not so safe bio bubbles.
· Crowd pulling out of the stadium.
· Logistics difficulties.
· Quarantine getting over the athletes.
Now have a look at the active cases in Tokyo as of May 16, 2021.

So the covid isn't out of Tokyo yet. This might not let the organisers to allow the crowd into the stadium. That would lead to a huge loss of money in the event.

Logistics management is an issue during the pandemic. The strict quarantine rules might not let the athletes to be in a right mental frx.

Let's see what happened to some of the sports events of recent-

· The Indian Premier league (IPL) 2021 got postponed owing to bio bubble breaches across teams.

· The Pakistan Premier league (PSL) 2021 got postponed owing to covid.

In Olympics, there'd be more than 20 sports and maintainance would be a lot tougher compared to a single sport event.

It'd be a big threat if an athlete tests positive in Olympics as it can easily spread out when compared to single sports events.

· In the Australian open 2021 earlier this year, the entry of crowd was banned midway through the tournament owing to covid surge.

If the crowd won't be allowed to the stadiums, then there'd be no point in hosting the event.

I'm a big fan of the Olympics and have been eagerly waiting for the event to happen. But not at the cost of the safety of the athletes. In my opinion, it’d be better to postpone the event until everything would be ideal to host the event.

As a matter of fact, this is a rather tough decision. Your question is to agree or not that the Olympics be hosted in Japan. We should understand that modern Olympics is not only a sport event, it involves a lot of commercial interests, which personally I believe is contaminating the Olympics.

However, to speak fair and square, the Japanese government has not been shutting down the country and to a large extent, live has been quite normal until recently when there are mutations of the virus and infected cases spike again.

The games is 2 months from now and there is still time for things to improve. Taking into considerations that there are less than 20,000 sportsman and coaches, supporting members from the participating countries, then the officials, judges and other supporting personals, if sufficient safety precautions are taken, I believe there can still be a safe game

Japan is OK place to host 2021 Olympics . There are very less options to host Olympic .
If all the players are vacinated then their is no problem in hosting the Olympics . It could be hosted without audience .

If Japan is still suffering from a peak in the Covid pandemic, it seem foolhardy to hold the Olympics in the midst of it. Typically, athletes do not often suffer death due to the disease, but it would be a shame if many did come down with it during the competition fortnight. They could bring it home to their families! No - I think the Olympics should be cancelled or delayed again unless Japan can show substantial improvement immediately before that decision must be made

I thing it’s foolish for the Japanese to hold these Olympics, especlally since so many host Japanese cities are NOT hosting any Olympians athletes or visitors. What’s the secondary purpose of the Olympics if not to meet and greet the athletes, their families, and their supporters?

I know Japan would lose a lot of money by cancelling the Olympics, but sometimes you just have to do the right thing, whether you make money or no.

I'm right in the middle…yes and no.

No because of Covid. The world is still recovering from the effects and many people still have not been vaccinated. Although most places have rules put in place to keep sick people out, but with the amount of tourists it will be impossible reinforce these rules.

Also, I know most tourists are fine but there are the sext few who do not respect the host nations rules and culture. I don't know how many times I've seen foreigners break branches off Sakura trees….I know it's not right to judge all tourists for the wrong doings of the few, but…come on…respect, people….

And yes because of the economical boost many places will get. The amount of businesses that shut down because of the virus was bad, especially small hotels in the country side, tourist spots, and many sightseeing areas that were very dependant on people form the outside (in or out of Japan) to come and spend money.

Also I heard they may loosen tattoo rules at onsen and pools. My wife is not Japanese and has tattoos…. it's been a nightmare trying to reserve and find decent ryokan with nice onsen that's OK with tattoos.

I’m somewhat conflicted.

Let’s start with the simple position: If the Olympics don’t happen this year, they’re not on until 2024 in Paris - the summer ones, anyway. I’m somewhat aware that there have been polls suggesting that the population in Japan wouldn’t mind a further postponement, but that’s pie-in-the-sky thinking. Considering that Olympics as far afield as 2032 are pretty far advanced in terms of being awarded and so on, the question perhaps comes down to “Does Tokyo host in 2021, or does it try to bid for 2036?”

Obviously, there’s the issue of the pandemic. I don’t pretend to understand what the issue is with the Japanese vaccination rollout, but it looks to be similarly slow as has happened elsewhere in the developed world. I’d like to think that the government there might have taken the view that “You know, we’ve got a massive event coming up in 2021, so maybe we should get our act together”, but the reality is that that may not have been enough. Very few countries have shown the ability to get their act together right from the word go, and that’s without a burning platform like staging the Olympics.

In saying that, other countries have demonstrated that it’s possible to hold large sporting events (yes, many times smaller than a full-bore Olympics, although the plan is for a much smaller one this year) without them turning into superspreader events. If you test everyone religiously and limit outside guests, it can be done. Considering that it’s a long time until the next Games, that may be a powerful thing.

Honestly I think its madness with a global pandemic still in full swing. I appreciate that athletes have trained hard and waited maybe their whole lives for the chance to compete, so it must be so frustrating and disappointing, but now is not the time.

As far as I'm aware there will be little or no spectators so why not wait until 2022, or even just miss one Olympics and Tokyo hold it in 2024 with each host then have their games 4 years later than planned. Usually there is a mad scramble to get venues ready on time, this would give 4 extra years! Obviously I know nothing about sponsorship deals, costs etc so my idea might be too simplistic. But now is really not the right time.
