Good stuff
The country is so diverse. I’ve met so many people from so many different countries speaking so many different languages and having so many different views. Coming from Iceland, where everyone is pretty much related, this diversity is so refreshing.

So much wonderful wildlife. I’ve seen all kinds of crazy critters from moose, bear, bison, snakes, turtles and so many wonderful birds. The animals are everywhere, even in the cities. Growing up in Iceland, I saw horses and sheep. Lots and lots of sheep, but not a whole lot else.
It’s so easy to start your own business. You can make lots of money very quickly if you are willing to work hard and get creative. And the government won’t take it all.
The amount and variety of food. I was shocked when I first went into one of the giant grocery stores. It seems you could buy anything. And the same holds true for other types of stores. Just so many different things for sale.
The prices are quite reasonable, at least compared to many other countries. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here.
美国真是太大了。美国的景点多到你看不完。有各种不同的环境，从大城市到，沙漠，森林，再到北极。

Bad stuff.
1, The traffic. There are just so many cars in the United States. Sometimes it seems like it would be quicker to walk rather than wait in some of the traffic jams. I went to Cape Cod last summer, and it literally took me over four hours of sitting in traffic in one place before I could finally get over one of the bridges. Some people have to drive in horrible traffic every single day to get to work. Public transport in most parts of the US is pathetic.

2. Sexual harassment. In some other countries treating women like crap is just taken for granted. Certainly not in Iceland or other Nordic countries, but in other parts of the world it’s common. But I didn’t expect it in the US. It’s not as blatant as in other parts of the world, but I’ve had plenty of incidents with both men and surprisingly women, saying or doing very inappropriate things to both me and my sister.

And again, the laws seem so different from place to place, and what goes on in Boston is so very different from what is allowed in San Francisco.
The United States is an interesting and very complicated place. But then it is just so big with so many different types of people, I guess it has to be.

Largest economy in the world. If you have the right skillset or you are in the right field there are lots of job opportunities and opportunities to do business serving the biggest and richest developed market in the world.
World class education. Some of the top universities in the world are here.
English is the lingua franca of the world. American English is its most widespread variety. If you live here you’ll learn it well which can serve you well here and anywhere in the world.

Cuisines here from all over the world. A few examples: Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, etc.

Culture. In general people are friendly and are willing to help strangers. In addition, the system is fair and a lot of the bullshit happening in other countries such as corruption, bribes, etc. is frown upon here culturally and most importantly laws are enforced to minimize these things. People are very open and you can see this even by the way they live. For example, even house windows very close to the street, don’t have their blinds on, you can see what people are doing inside. Some houses don’t even have fences, etc.

You have to be admitted to their inner circle to really be considered their friend and it takes a lot longer, usually years, to do that. In Eastern Europe people are more open to making friends. Here there is an expression “mind your own business” that kind of explains this. People live in their own little bubble and don’t venture as much as in other countries to be involved in other people’s lives or simply don’t show any interest in doing so. Happiness is directly lixed to friendships and relationships with other people and that’s why some very poor countries such as Guatemala and others actually score higher than the US on the happiness index. There is a cultural difference between US/Scandinavian/Northwestern European countries and most of the other parts of the world.

Cons:
SO Nationalistic. America is extremely patriotic. You’d be shocked to hear some of the songs they sing in churches. The whole idea of manifest destiny created a culture that genuinely believes that they are G-d’s chosen people. They look down on other countries and see themselves as the nation that deserves to rule the world. I wish i was joking. The superiority complex is sickening.

Very puritanical yet very raunchy at the same time. People are very judgmental about any sort of nudity, yet they glorify sex and see being slutty as “mature”.
