Really feels like China is one of those country where you can travel freely in the countryside without any worries and meet awesome people.
Moreover, even though you are from the US, no Chinese were hostile to you (or at least you didn't show them). I'm not sure if the same could be said if a Chinese was visiting the US countryside.

Before the Trump era, I did a lot of solo hiking trips on the west coast of USA, in some really remote places. I would say, 100% of the Mexican Americans and Native Americans that I ran into on these trips were friendly to me.

I think that's more a result of the US transportation system. The perception of fear is really strong when you're a lone biker with high-speed automobiles and trucks zooming past. I've met amazing people on bike paths, hiking trails, and campgrounds. People are generally friendly to others in environments that are friendly to people.

Not necessarily as foreigner, but you know Indonesia is so diverse culturally and ethnically and as an Indonesian myself, coming to another place in another part of the country often feels like a brand new experience. I'm happened to be someone who's from the more remote place of the country (a north Bornean myself), so for example I occasionally met with some people who were curious about me every time I came to visit to any city or town in Java.

That metro station I passed was in xinjin district , halfway to Qionglai . Maybe in a few years it will get all the way to Qionglai. it just keeps growing like crazy and it’s all just been in the past decade

I notice you have indirectly and unofficially become a travelling ambassador from US, giving the normal Chinese citizen a totally different view of a typical American....someone which is friendly and approachable (vs the current US-China relations). Also, i feel you must be alx/careful too as you are a pretty girl cycling alone in some of this deserted roads.....wishing you safe and happy always!

Great video!! Careful traveling around because there were some recent covid cases. <3 Your conversations are almost exactly like when I talk to the locals, always so friendly. The last interesting conversation I had I was asked if I was scared if the USA and China go to war. I said I look European enough that I wasn't worried. lol
BTW if your doing requests you should check out the Chengdu Planning Exposition Museum. It has an ENORMOUS scale model of Chengdu. Promise it won't disappoint.

Thanks for bringing Ya'an, a barely known Chinese city, to overseas viewer. Have been following Chengdu-Lhasa high speed rail to be completion by 2030. Chengdu-Ya'an section was completed and in operation since 2018. Katherine, you are definitely our eyes and ears before we can visit China again. Great work!
