My friend journalist went to Japan for the Tokyo Olympic Games told me, most of the Japanese volunteers for the event don't speak English. It was very frustrated for many foreigners including athletes, journalists, technical staffs, cameramen, etc to get around and ask question. My friend could get in from one entrance so he asked one of the volunteers why his badge did not work and he got no answer because those volunteers don't speak English. So my friend just waited and waited for almost one hour until someone who can speak English arrived. It turns out that the entrance is not for journalists. My friend needs to go around at another entrance. What a waist of time. And this is not the impression I had for Japan before.
