I know right? Although i’m probably reading a very different niche of chinese web novels than the person who asked the question, fyi i mostly read quick transmigration novels and many, many danmei (BL) novels that i read daily, example, founder of diabolism is a danmei novel.
Chinese novels are truly addicting, I remember reading this novel three days straight and i still didn’t complete it yet since it had 4000+ chapter, it was a massive tear jerker though.
It’s quite hard to navigate through the trashy ones, as there are so many. But when you find that one novel that is truly amazing… *chefs kiss*

The one that says Chinese web novel is inspired from Japanese manga and Korean Manhwa definitely have not dig into any of these. I am Chinese and I used to read Chinese Web Novels for about five years. I literally watched the development of the web novel industry and watched over more than a thousand novels and spent in total about(or more)2000 hours in it. I at the same time is a Anime fan. I have watched anime for about 4 years and watched more than 3/4 of the anime existed. And I can tell you that Chinese Web Novels, are mainly trash as you watch more and more of it. Yes, there are ones that can bring tears to your eyes; yes, there are good ones out there. But most of it is just repetitive adjectives and storylines. As I personally knows there are about more than hundreds of Chinese web novel genres out there, and usually only the first few ones are great.
I’m just going to talk about some parts that Chinese web novels in general are very trashed with.

1.Racism+incorrect political influences.
A very common factor in any web novels that have to do with modern society includes a few factors no matter what genre it is. Anti-Japan/any western countries thinking and racism. More than 3/4 of the modern society genre web novels that have any supernatural power or martial arts including in it must have Japan or U.S.A bombed, destroyed, or described as evil and un-humanly. Because of the Japanese invasion that occurred during WW2 and some conflicts between U.S.A and China that occurred in the past, as far as I know most of the Chinese have hatred against the Japanese and White people. From the Author’s bad writing it can be obviously seen that all Japanese have a dream of invading China and all Japanese women that is pretty will either act like a bi—ch or become part of the MC’s harem. Well, there are exceptions, but you get my idea. Due to the influence of Japanese AV in China, almost all Japanese men are described of having small genitalia and a sinister personality. These kinds of suggestion is all over Chinese web Novel. Even one of the best(in quality, updating speed, and writing) author Tang Jia San Shao have written a fantasy novel that includes deep racism in it. Many readers are influenced by those thinkings and become a racist. There is also a chance of addicting to Chinese Web Novels, like me; I used to be addicted to Chinese Web Novels to a point where it greatly impact my grade in school

2.Sexism and R18 scenes.
Chinese Web Novels really liked using R18 scenes. Good writers can use it as a tool of the MC’s development in life; average writers will use it as a self-satisfaction of not having a girlfriend in his real life by giving the MC a huge harem; the bad writers can write R18 scenes as sh-t and the MC will always have a sexual relationship every once he saw a pretty women. These scenes for most of the times are not only annoying, it also made the novel to seem non-professional and bad. An English novel or a Japanese light novel will never directly describe a sex scene between the characters(usually), because they have what is called “professionalism”, which will be the next problem with Chinese Web Novels.

3.Lack of Professionalism
I can say 99 % of the Chinese web novel writers out there writing novels is not professional; in fact, they are not supposed to be professional. In China, anyone from an Elementary School Student to a professional writer can write Chinese web novels whenever they want and post it onto the websites they liked. It directly caused the quality, thinking, and themes behind those stories to drop crazily. In my experience, I had never been able to find an interesting novel for about half a year because the quality of most is so bad. You will never feel my feeling of quitting every novel I read after or before chapter 50. Once you read Chinese web novels to my point you will become desperate to find even just a novel that has a different setting than the ones that are the mainstream. It was days like hell. Also the authors can write whenever they wanted, and a hundred percent of the web-novels does not have a perfect performance, for that it is impossible for the readers and the author to process thousands chapters of perfect writing. The frequency of Chinese web novel’s upxe is usually daily. The reason why Tang Jia San Shao is so famous is because he was able to keep a daily upxe while keeping the length and quality of his writings for more than 15 years. The process made Tang Jia San Shao literally so sick that he now have more than 10 injuries with his body. The way that Chinese Web Novels are upxed determined that it will never be comparison to Japanese and English novels which have way more time to think and proofread their story.

4.Overcrowded story and useless length
Chinese web novels, unlike any of the novels out there in anyplace other than China, have down from hundreds and up to about million of chapters. I have read many novels existed that consisted of more than 5,000 chapters. Chinese, unlike English, is really easy comprehensive once you know the language well. Every(almost none) Chinese reader will have the experience of not knowing what they have read in the past minutes, because the way we get through the large amount of chapters is by having our brain automatically skipping useless or part of the story. It directly causes people to forget the characters names or even details of the previous stories. It is usual for an author to forget characters that he/she wrote in the previous chapters. The story was “made” readable by the English translations. Even the names and nouns are very weird, the translation still improves generally the novel’s quality.

5.Why don’t just read something else?
Literally, once you dig into Chinese Web Novels you will eventually reach a point that you will be stressed out by it. My suggestions is to read all the readable novels and give up the rest, there is not point to waste your time on trash that is not readable. Many people said that the novels are great because of things like the MC will give up his love with one of his harems because it is too dangerous and violent men conflict. Well, don’t make me laugh, anime, light novels, English novels, manga, and any other type of story is capable of doing that much better than what Chinese Web Novels can do. Yes, there are some specialty of Chinese Web Novels, which is its sense of uniqueness in setting and story style, but any of the other novels and stories have their own uniqueness. Why don’t you try watching some good anime instead of spending hundreds of hours looking for Chinese Web-Novels? There is no point of that. The only reason Chinese Web Novel is popular in Western Society is because it is different.
Ps.(I wrote this answer in a hurry, so please ignore the grammar.)

Well I started reading this web novels and comics manga not to long ago, but I am kinda very addicted to them specially this Chinese web novel and for me they are so great cause of the single thing that they show growth of the MC form being, someone not even worthy of a kaudi to transforming into a giant of shaking the havens itself.
When I read my concentration level reach a realm of singularity with the story itself, time seems to just flow away as I imagine myself in the MC.
So,when the MC face a problem i think of how should i solve it, and there are many things that are very much addicting in them all in all these are the things which i like to do most and only
simple and great in one .

A news report vividly illustrates how addictive Chinese web novels can be: A US man claims that reading Chinese web novels cured his drug addiction. He was able to break his addiction to cocaine after just six months of reading online Chinese fantasy novels. It seems that web novels can be as addictive as drugs, but the only difference is that they won’t harm your health (except your eye-sights). Chinese web novel writers know well about how to hook their readers constantly.
Very roughly, a web novel can be separated into three stages.
1) MC’s weak and powerless stage:
A typical web novel usually starts by featuring a young male protagonist who experiences a tragedy – such as being repelled from a clan/sect; being considered as having no talents at all, etc. For example, at the beginning of the book ‘Battle Through the Heavens’, the protagonist Xiao Yan had suddenly lost everything – his powers, his reputation, and his promise to his mother. His fiancée ridiculed him and broke off their original engagement.

2) The training and learning stage:
As the story unfolds, the protagonist often undertakes trials to learn several forms of powerful sorceries. Sometimes, the protagonist trains secretly and waits patiently until there is an opportunity for him to show off his skills and surprise those who initially looked down on him. Again, Xiao Yan met Yao Lao (a powerful alchemist) who promised to teach him alchemy and martial arts. Together they went on a journey to train, during this time Xiao Yan manages to absorb the Geocentric Lotus Flame and gets a seven-coloured serpent (Medusa) as a pet.
3) The revenge stage:
At the end of the story, the protagonist emerges as a powerful sorcerer whom few can equal. He uses his abilities to take revenge.

Readers are addicted to these web novels because it is easy to connect with MCs on a personal level, seeing and feeling how powerless the MCs are and the tragic stuff they go through. Readers can also expect to see how MCs slowly get stronger to accomplish goals.

The classical hook of the web novel is called扮猪吃老虎, literally translated as ‘pretending to be a pig to prey on tigers’. It means keeping a low profile so as to achieve a high ambition. To illustrate this seemingly bizarre way of acting, just think about those top students who pretend that they did not study, but their books are all highlighted and they always turn out to be the top. In Chinese web novels, MCs sometimes keep a low profile and looked down upon by their opponents. When the MC exposes something or does something impossible then it always slaps the arrogant opponent in the face.

The revenge episode is another main reason for the popularity of Chinese novels among western readers. In western superhero comics, the protagonists generally have a heart of gold and forgive everyone, while in Chinese novels MCs have their ‘badass’ time and never mind taking revenge. Some readers also observed that web novel is closer to real-life than western superhero comics. In real life, good and evil cannot be easily defined. In this sense, web novels are more like what people experience in lives. You really can’t take any MC as purely good because they do bad things like kill for themselves and their loved ones.

Mainly in my case, I started getting into Web Novels sometime after getting bored of reading manga. (I still read manga, just not as much anymore)
I read Chinese Web Novels simply because after reading Japanese ones, I couldn’t get used to it as I was used to reading Japanese manga (and so, kinda stopped with the Japanese Web Novels).
The reason I like reading them though is the plot line and stories in Chinese Web Novels are completely different compared to Japanese type Web Novels and manga.
Chinese Web Novels are often Wuxia type (is that too generalised?) where they’re in ancient times and cultivate their strength for all out battles. It’s more adrenaline pumping and more to my taste (maybe I’ve gotten sick or that fluffy romance found in Japanese manga that I read? Or just the Japanese plot style).
It’s also because the idea of transmigration and reincarnation is seen widely in the Chinese Web Novels.

Though, I feel like I’m not explaining it very well, so it’s best just to check it out yourself.
Try reading Chinese (and other countries) Web Novels on Novel upxes.
Some of the Chinese Web Novels I’ve read include the following:
God Of Slaughter
The Avalon Of Five Elements
Peerless Battle Spirit
Legend of Ling Tian
Chaotic Sword God

The Nine Cauldrons
Reincarnation Of The Strongest Sword God
Destined Marriage with Fragrance
Ghostly Masked Prince Xiao: Pampering and Spoiling the Little Adorable Consort

(ok, so the list here is pretty long, but this isn’t even half of what I’m tracking)
Around half of the listed are cultivation styled ones, and the other half are more focused on romance. (though, it should be relatively easy to tell which one is focused on romance)

The protagonists or heroes of China's online novels will have their growth process from weak and small people to the ultimate strong. (this is an idea to break class monopoly and class solidification)
We can see that the traditional protagonists or heroes in the West are often not growing. They naturally have and maintain stability (such as Superman or transformers), or a direct change in an accidental event (such as spider man), which represents the idea of class solidification and that only lucky people can break through the solidification of identity.
In contrast, Chinese online novels can give readers a sense of substitution and motivation.

Let me say this. The allure of Chinese fantasy novels is so great that people from countries like USA are getting rid of drugs addiction by getting indulged in the translated novels. In the past 3–4 years, after Coiling Dragon translated on Wuxiaworld or Douluo Dalu on wordpress became a hit, the whole Chinese translating community with the support of readers have brought forth multitudes of novels free of cost. The allure of Chinese fantasy novels separated into genres like wuxia, xianxia and xuanhuan cannot be described in words alone.

Story line and plot is vastly different from the stereotypes set by the English novels. The world building involved will blow your minds off and at the same time subvert your definition of it. Vastly different power levels and the ingenuity at describing them will make you feel disappointed at the “ant-like” existence of Avengers or Justice League. At the beginning, foreign readers will find it difficult to get used to Chinese traditions like their clothing sense or ways their characters (example, beauty) is described. But it is temporary. Characters are given striking backgrounds and their emotions are portrayed in very depth. Also, the ethics and the way of life described are completely different from the real world so all of your fantasies could be seen fulfilled. And the authors do not shy away from aspects like horror or bloodshed or harem.

Of course not all novels are perfect in the aspects described above. Even I am sometimes uncomfortable with few of them. I obviously avoid those. The below few novels are recommended good reads for the beginners. You could later visit Directory of Asian Translated Novels Wuxiaworld volarenovels – Chinese fantasy and romance web novels Home - Gravity Tales for more.
Douluo Dalu
Coiling Dragon
I shall seal the heavens
A will eternal(Ongoing)
In the end, I would recommend to be aware of boundary between fiction and real world. Sometimes, in few Chinese fantasy novels, they tend to be extreme in the case of murders or rapes and ‘survival of the fittest’ psychology. Also too much addiction is not good.
Happy reading!

For me, after reading so many novels, my benchmark is very high sky thus the list will only has a few novels:
Lord of Mysteries (Chinese, completed, 1400+ chapters): This is highly recommended, I can say it's top-notch one of the best web novel in existence. The story is most about the mystery, the gods and the madness. It's adopt the air of Legend of Cthulhu, also a bit of steampunk as the game Bloodborne and the gloominess of Dark Souls.
Reverend Insanity (Chinese, ongoing, 2300+ chapters): This is a very high quality novel but I personally dislike the protagonist. The world building and the character development are superb, thus the protagonist's personality is quite particular. He is ruthless, cruel, a real cold-blooded psychopath. He is not some psychopath you saw from other “dog-shit" novel where the evil protagonist try to pretend to be evil. This novel show the true cruelty of life, be it the protagonist, he kills people for his benefits, he murdered innocent people, he tortured, sacrifice countless lives to increase his strength, he betrays anyone as long as there is benefits. To be honest, he is the real scum I want to avoid the most. However, I still highly recommend this novel. As I said, this novel is superior in most aspects from world building, character development to plot and story progress. The protagonist is cruel, but the word is crueler, read it with risk.
