For every 2,000 steps you take each day, your risk for premature death may fall by 8 to 11 percent, according to research published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

I feel like I brought myself back from the brink. If I can do it, almost anyone can. I have totally ditched the walker and cane.

The "10,000 steps a day' slogan was merely an ad campaign for a fitness device years ago. How many "steps a day" can be earned by other exercise? Unless a person walks a lot on their job, how are they going to find time in their busy lives to walk 2 hours? Walking is boring. I recommend it, of course; but to set too high a goal is too lose interest in exercise. Ed if its taking you 2 hours to walk 10K steps you might need to step it up. An hour walk is usually a great start that should get you 6-7K steps. Walking is the best exercise! Before I got hurt (broke my leg) I was walking from 10,000 steps to 13,000-14,000 steps during my working hours (Walmart) and I was feeling great! I miss it and hope to soon be back to walking that much each work day!
