There is one thing I’ve noticed in common between all these wildly different highly successful people I know.
All of them are unafraid of dirty work. You show me a kid who is willing to scrub the toilets or do back-breaking work at grueling hours and I’ll show you a person who will be on top in a breathtakingly short period of time.
Conversely, so many times when someone says: “Well, I’m not gonna do that!” thinking that it’s beneath them, I know I’ll find them in the same spot 10 years later.

There was once two brothers, Leandros and Erato, who lived in a mid-sized town together with their father.
Their father was a successful entrepreneur who owned a huge rice farm.
He had grown his farm from a small patch about the size of a garden to acres that produced tons of high-quality rice and employed many people in the village.
As the brothers came of age and their ambition manifested, they began thinking about their goals in life.

Leandros didn’t mind his father’s decision; he felt it was the right one.
Eratos, on the other hand, would complain about his father being selfish every time he woke up and was reminded of the hard day of work ahead.
Each day while they worked, Leandros and Erato would talk about their big dreams.
They both would talk about the cars they wanted to buy, the houses in the town that they each wanted to live in, and the places they wanted to travel.

The work wasn’t always enjoyable, and Leandros was horrible at running his rice farm at first, but he was willing to sacrifice his free time to accomplish his dream.
Eratos, meanwhile, always spent his money on drinks with his friends at the local bar.

Of course, this isn’t to say that Leandros was a workaholic who never got any enjoyment out of his life.

Meanwhile, Eratos was furiously jealous. He now worked for his brother, when years ago they were at the same level.
One day Eratos asked his brother, “Why are you more successful than me? It doesn’t make any sense. We grew up in the same household and worked on the same farm for all these years. What gives?”
Leandros replied, “It’s simple, dear brother. Talk doesn’t grow rice.”

So, the way the average person spends his or her free time looks more like 80% mindless relaxation and 20% growth/productivity.
Then after 20 years, these people wonder why they’re in the same place or even a worse situation in their lives.
Don’t get me wrong. Rest is essential for a healthy and productive mind.
Not to mention, it’s important not to take life too seriously and enjoy it while we are still living.

I’m not suggesting to abandon all friends and family to become a tightwad workaholic.
Of course, if all you do is work all the time, all you’ll be at best is the richest and loneliest man in the graveyard. At worst you’ll die an early death caused by stress and overwork.
With that acknowledged, if you want to be successful, you do need to find a constructive ratio of productivity vs. enjoyment when it comes to how you spend your free time.
Whether that ratio is 80/20, 90/10 or 95/5 depends on how ambitious your goals are.
Use critical thinking and decide for yourself. Chances are you know what you should be doing with your free time deep down.
If nothing else, be like Leandros, not Eratos.

I have a very specific indicator of how successful a person will be in school: The students whose first question for any assignment is a variation of “what’s the least we have to do to get a good grade” are not the students who are the most likely to be successful in the following school years.
I teach middle schoolers (ages 12–14), so, when they’re done with my class, they still have at least four years of high school ahead of them. I’ve kept in touch with many of my alumni over the years, and all of the unsuccessful ones did the same thing in my class… they were minimalists when it came to work. If I asked them to write about something, they’d ask me how long their paper had to be, because they were going to aim for the minimum.
The most successful students didn’t ask for the minimum length for their papers. They just wrote what they needed to tell the story they wanted to tell.
I saw adult versions of work minimalism when I was a retail manager. Twice per week, we received a shipment of 10–18 pallets of products that needed to be shelved. I’d assign someone to put everything from one of the pallets on the shelf. The least successful employees… the ones who got the fewest hours and smallest raises… would do exactly what they were told, and nothing more. They’d stock the shelves, but leave the empty pallet on the floor, because I didn’t specifically tell them to put the empty pallet in the pile of empty pallets behind the store. They were minimalists. They did exactly the least amount of work they had to do.
If you want to be successful, don’t be a minimalist when it comes to tasks.

I prefer lazy students, as they have a natural ability to tackle a lot of work in a clever, straight as an arrow kind of way.
The adrenalin driven students who are rude (Oxbridge or Ivy) and show this air of arrogance to other students (- for success)
These little turds are extremely annoying. Some of these are in group 1, the lazy fellas, but with those you can't tell they have Oxbridge or Ivy background.
I've seen ivy/oxbridge people naturally exclude students during an assesment centre who were from a lesser university. Students who think they are better than others because of their background are little shits. I love pushing these guys to the max. Whoever passes my questions, bravo to them.

One needs to do the presentation, one does the calculation, one writes everything up accurately, and one does the negotiation with the other teams. Who wants to do these bits?
When they tell what they wanted to do, you give them the other roles…
All this nonsense about listening first before talking, “waiting for your chance”, be patient, and whatnot. Rubbish.
What people forget is that a lot of “successful people”, don't consider the long weeks they pull, as “hard work”. It's pursuing a hobby, with as side effect money, wealth and success.

All this nonsense about listening first before talking, “waiting for your chance”, be patient, and whatnot. Rubbish.
What people forget is that a lot of “successful people”, don't consider the long weeks they pull, as “hard work”. It's pursuing a hobby, with as side effect money, wealth and success.

人们忘记的是，很多“成功人士”并不认为他们度过的漫长的几周是“艰苦的工作”。他们追求的是一种爱好，其副作用是金钱、财富和成功。
