I'm an animal lover and I can't stand to see anything suffer. And no, I haven't eaten meat in 4 years now and I've begun to eliminate anything that's not plant based out of my diet. But in reality the only way the cruelty of factory farming will end is if the majority of the human race is wiped out. Less people, less demand, less suffering.... so it won't come to an end anytime soon.

I watched a video on some sub or another that had been shot in a US pig farm, and it honestly put me off ever eating pork again. I'm not even in the USA! But I doubt conditions are much better here in the UK. In fact I have massively reduced the amount of meat I eat, to just a couple of times a month. We use oat milk too. However, vegan butter and cheese are still a long way off being bearable.
I have no concerns with what others eat. I do wish more people realised the sorts of conditions low-cost meat is farmed in, but I'm not gonna force anyone.

If you’re interested, look up factory farming on youtube for more info. We are currently studying this topic in philosophy and it was super eye opening to me.
I usually am not the type of person to look away when it comes to gory things, but the issue of factory farming deifntiely takes the cake.
I saw someone mention above how they kill sick pigs by smashing their heads into the ground and that was one of the practices i witnessed in one of the factory farming videos - to piglets too - so disgusting… it really does open your eyes to what really goes on.
The way they kill chickens and pigs for consumption is wild. Chickens are hung up on a line while still alive and then dunked into water with an electric current to shock them, rendering them unconscious. most of the time this doesn’t work. Then they continue down the line to slit their throats, and sometimes even that doesn’t work. so sometimes after all of that live chickens are then thrown into boiling water, and yeah the whole process is just so ew.
Those pigs above are stationed in that position their entire life.
Chickens are packed into super small spaces, unable to move with the amount of chickens in such small areas. their (beaks?) are cut off to prevent them from doing certain things, and this is also done with no anesthesia or anything like that.
ever see those trucks on the highway filled with chickens or pigs? they were probably on their way to get slaughtered. Notice how you’ll see those trucks no matter the weather, snow or blistering heat. Sometimes these animals will freeze or die from heat exhaustion simply due to the way they are transported.
also…. did you know that pretty much all of the meat we eat is factory farmed? like…. 98% of it? and if you’re in the top 2% who’s not eating factory farmed meat, then you’re a millionaire. this is all done completely under our noses and the practices are so brutal. The amount of animals around the world in factory farms living the entirety of their lives in miserable conditions was super eye opening to learn about. We kill SO many animals to consume for our food, it’s actually crazy. and the way they it’s done is SO unfortunate. it’s really something everyone should read up about.

I think family farms need to become a thing again.
Meat from them would be more expensive than the average citizen would tolerate. We have to push forward and subsidize lab grown meat, until we can get it cheaper than real meat.

We really don't need near as much meat in our diet as the typical American eats. That's said, I'm not against lab grown meat, but getting the public to accept it will take time.

Not everyone has access to enough foods to be vegan. It might surprise you, but in some places healthy food like fruit, vegetables, salads, substitutes for animal products etc are significantly more expensive then the non-vegan offerings. I'm disabled and survive on foodstamps now. I can't afford vegan. We have one grocery store where I live. They want 9 dollars for a vegan frozen dinner. I supplement with silken tofu I order from Amazon because the store doesn't carry tofu(or any fresh substitutes). I buy fresh food when and if it's actually edible and affordable.

Some of it's education (nutrition education in the states is almost non-existent). Some of it's poverty and access. Did you know that huge swaths of the United States are located in "food deserts"? These places specifically have little to no access to fresh food. Also most people who lack money also lack time. A struggling mom of 4 with 2.5 jobs just doesn't have the time to cook every meal with fresh whole foods even if she has access to them. Nor does she know how to cook it.
Btw my grocery store likes to store our fresh foods in a cooler that spontaneously freezes. They get the food when it's massively underripe, and then after it freezes, the crystals cause the cells to explode and the plant to become mushy and gross. So you can get underripe food that's gone bad. Anyone with good transport uses our nearest Walmart over half hour away, but let's be real. A lot of poor people don't have reliable transit.
The real way, in my opinion the best way, to effect positive change to the animal industry, is to educate kids and teenagers in school on nutrition, cooking, and the reality of where their food comes from. Then outreach programs that help people get good, healthy affordable food that's fast and easy to cook, and guidance on how to cook it. Or companies to produce easy meals with fresh whole ingredients. Keep the meat out of it but provide proteins. Chickpeas, tofu, beans, whatever works. If they really WANT they meat they will have to go get it themselves. I think you'd be surprised at how many would stop or reduce eating meat if they had easy alternatives.
Also, just for fun. You know plants feel pain right? Experiments have shown that some plants scream when inflicted with pain and others avoid it if it's expected. Some fungi also communicate using electrical impulses to warn their fellow fungi of a threat of harm. Lab grown food really is the way to go if you are eating your food for moral reasons.

要想解决问题，在我看来，最好的方法是，推动对肉食品观念的转变，学校要教育孩子，让孩子们了解营养，烹饪，和食物来源方面的知识。帮助人们获得好吃健康又好做的食物以及烹饪技巧并大力推广。或者学校用新鲜食材简单做一下饭菜。里面不要放肉，但要蛋白质不可缺少。比如鹰嘴豆，豆腐，黄豆，什么的都行。如果他们真的想吃肉，就得自己去拿。我想你会惊讶于有多少孩子不吃或很少吃肉，即使有肉可以选择。

Unfortunately one person doesn’t change anything. It is valiant and noble but real change is rooted in mass protest and upheaval. Meat is the most nutritious protein available to us, and studies clearly shown feeding adolescents meat vs non meat diets SEVERELY impacts brain function and growth, due to vitamin deficiency among a plethora of other things.
Can our bodies adapt? Maybe. But the bigger issue is the amount of preservatives in vegan meat as well as again the vitamin deficiency issue. Not eating meat, in my humble opinion, is not the answer. Increasing the price of meat to make it a delicacy while also creating humane animal laws is a more efficient way to a better cause. If our hamburgers cost $50 for a 4 pack because of supply shrinkage due to tighter laws, guess who’s not eating meat 7 times a week again…
Again these are my opinions and who tf am I really. I have gone vegan for over a year multiple times in my life, I am an avid animal advocate and I home 2 dogs, a pig, 3 cats, a hedgehog, a duck, 2 cows, and a donkey. We need reasonable action imo vegan is not “sustainable” for most of society.
