Happy most of the times. Sometimes worried and angry. Mexico is really a great country to live, sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it, but I prefer to live here than in any other place.

I’m proud of being Mexican. We are family-focused, work hard, party harder, love music, love life. We have a great culture, cuisine and history and a beautiful land.
What saddens me is the unending cartel wars and the corruption in politics.

How do I stop feeling ashamed because I am mexican?
You should not feel ashamed for being Mexican. Why in the world would you want to be ashamed because of your Mexican heritage?
I'm Iranian and I'm a proud one. You should be proud of your heritage too.
Try to study Mexican history, culture, your ancestral religion(s), your ancestral language(s) and so on. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to be ashamed because of your heritage.
Mexicans have a sophisticated and a rich history and you should be proud of that and not be ashamed.

Look, I’ll always be open to talking about the problems of my country and the many things we Mexicans need to do to push our country forward. Despite how eagerly I defend Mexico here in Quora, I’m more than willing to admit my country has its problems.
However, there’s nothing that annoys me more than the fact that people all over the world sees Mexico as this endless desert populated by drug lords, burros and Pedro from south of the border.
Even educated people that know better tend to have trouble with this.
I’ve had friends from Spain ask me how difficult it was to be the only goth in Mexico, (I was a goth during my teens) and they just wouldn’t believe me when I explained the goth subculture is pretty popular in Mexico.
I’ve had friends from the States actually visit Mexico, then ask me about whether Mexico has squirrels or not since the country is mostly desertic.
I’ve had friends refuse to visit Mexico because they don’t like tacos (????) and some outright refuse to set foot in Mexico City because “they’ll be kidnapped like in Man on Fire”.

Both of the previous posts address the point of view from Mexicans living in Mexico.
My point of view is from a Mexican immigrant now a naturalized US Citizen of Mexican heritage.
What sucks about being Mexican (from a Mexican-American perspective) is that mainstream America still treats Americans of Mexican heritage as second class citizens. The more conservative the state the more intense the racism, discrimination, stereotypes, misconceptions, ignorance, and bigotry there is.
I have a college degree in architecture, drive a luxury vehicle to work, own a 4-bedroom house with a park across the street, and it never seizes to amaze me how some white prick still believes he is entitled to give me dirty looks or try to stare me down. I am fortunate enough to live in the most inclusive, tolerant, literate, loving, and successful state in the unx. So, I don’t have it nearly as bad as Mexican-Americans who live in red states. Even so, Southern California has a lot of military bases and those who are active duty bring their backward values to my beautiful state. Needless to say, it’s hard for me to feel 100% patriotic when I get dirty looks from these active duty military men/women.
Also, as Liberal as Hollywood is Mexicans are still unfairly stereotyped as gang members, unintelligent, etc. Every time I remember the opening scene from the movie Logan I want to rip Hugh Jackman's face off. Not fair. Specially when study after study has proven that immigrant communities are safer than mainstream American communities. Matter of fact, the highest population of incarcerated Americans is comprised of White people, then Black Americans, then Latinos.

It would also be nice if Mexican-American history were taught in schools. Seriously. The ignorance of many Americans is astonishing. Most Americans don’t realize that Mexicans have lived in the southwestern US before this part of the country was “America.” Thus, many Americans (and I do mean many,) believe that all Mexican-Americans are immigrants when there are generations of Americans of Mexican heritage that predate white Americans in the Southwest. US ethnocentric revisionist history excludes the deep Mexican-American history and contributions. For instance, many Mexican-Texan generals who fought alongside White Texans for independence from Mexico are never mentioned in history. Their contributions are ignored. I can go on with a ton of other examples but I’ve proven my point.
Lastly, what can I say about president Trump that hasn’t been said before? He started his campaign with a racist statement about Mexican immigrants. He continues to this day doing horrific things to immigrants in general like enacting a policy to kidnap children from asylum seeking mothers. This policy would never be applied to undocumented immigrants from Eastern Europe or even Asian undocumented immigrants. -but with Latin Americans it’s fair game.
So what sucks about being Mexican has nothing to do with being Mexican at all. What sucks is the the discrimination, racism, stereotypes, misconceptions, bigotry, and willful ignorance from White Conservative Americans. What sucks is that Mexico has to be a neighbor to the most racist country of the industrialized world.

1. Weather
2. Less stress
3. Being passionate is part of Mexican culture, we are extremely cheerful, especially in worldcups lol
4.We are closer to our family, if we have our family, we are happy.
5. We looooove parties and our friends also we love dance
6. The food is awesome, we have a lot of delicious fruit and so cheap.
For example: Americans tend to have more stress, they need to work hard, especially when the life in America is so expensive.

1.天气

Mexicans culturally focus on what they have. (Family, friends, good food, festivities)
Americans (using it as an example) tend to culturally focus on what they lack and expect happiness will come upon achieving those goals.
It is different ways of seeing the world.

They are warm, generous and extremely welcoming and inclusive. They will share their last bit of food or money without expectations. They will invite you out with them immediately if they like you and make sure you always feel welcomed.
They are hard workers and family people. If anything happens to one member of the family the whole family will be there with emotional or financial support. They don’t mind working hard and they don’t complain and usually will try to find a positive in everything.
Even if they don’t have anything they will find a reason to smile and laugh, drink and celebrate. They treasure little things and are more grateful than may cultures I’ve seen. They are proud of their culture and happy to share it with you
I wish more people respected them instead of the current demonization of Mexicans in the USA.

That’s the way we’re brought up. From a very small age, we are taught to say, please, thank you, good morning, hello, after you, excuse me, pardon, how do you do?, etc.
Some people (some Mexicans, even) may find good manners a form of submisiveness and weakness. I may have been one of those in my youth. But now that I’m older and have children of my own, I see good manners as the social lubricant that keeps us from killing each other every day.

I’ll tackle this question from the economic & financial POV.
First off don’t confuse per-capita GDP with INCOME. GDP is what one’s effort/productivity contributes to the boss’s pocket; whether the boss pays him fairly (income) for that effort is another matter. The minimum wage (US$5/day) of Mexico is only 16.7% of its per-capita GPD.
While Mexicans are extremely productive , their median (not to be confused with average) incomes are among the lowest in Latin America. Now why does minimum wage matters in this case? Well that’s because most Mexicans make between 1~3x minimum wage
That means most Mexicans make US$5~15/day, or roughly US$150~450/month. To put it into perspective, the minimum wage of Ecuador is US$390/month, and the average wage of China is US$800/month. Mexican wages have already been cut to the bare-bone, yet it still can’t compete with countries with far higher real wages due to mismanagement by corrupt Mexican politicians .
Now how about expenses? Based on my in-laws spending patterns (which are quite representative of Mexicans of their social class), I’ve broken it down as the following:

The average housing cost for a family home (be it rental or mortgage) is around US$100. Assuming at least 2 family members are working, that means $50 out of $300. Utilities (electricity, water, natural gas) in Mexico aren’t that expensive, so that’s another $25/person.The cable (phone, TV, internet) costs another $25/person (personal contribution to fixed line + personal cell phone). Now if you want to survive on tortillas con sal & frijoles con arroz exclusively, you can get by with $25/person, but most of us want more than that, so let’s make it $50/person. Commute to work? That’s another $25 (assuming you just lock yourself up at home after work & don’t go anywhere). Then let’s not forgot not everyone in the household works; you still have to support a bunch of minors, seniors etc. That’s another $50/person. Fortunately, Mexico has decent public health service, & that saves a lot of Mexicans from certain doom.
Out of US$300, each person is now left with US$50 of “disposable” income only. Now we haven’t included such “basic” expenses as clothes/shoes

Under this situation of economic hopelessness, many Mexicans have acquired a pessimist-optimist attitude, and essentially stopped planning for their economic futures. Their only goals is life is to spend as much time with the largest number of family relatives & friends under the same roof as possible. While most Latinos may feel indifferent about stability of nuclear families, they sure love their extended families.
By accepting the hopelessness of the situation, the average Mexican has stopped worrying about their future financial growth, & focuses instead on the happiness of spending quality time with extended family & friends here & now. So much so, that Mexico is the 16th happiest country of the world.
Beside, there’s always that college-educated sucker (educated Mexican professionals have respectable disposable incomes) who’s expected to own up all the family expenses beyond the bare minimum. And those “less fortunate” family member will not hesitate to spend beyond their means while fully expecting the “rich one” to wipe their arses. For better or worse, this toxic valemadrista (not letting the well-being of others weighs on their conscience) attitude also contributes to their high happiness index.

不管是好是坏,这种有毒的valemadrista(不让别人的幸福让自己良心不安)态度也有助于他们的高幸福指数。
