As a Filipino, it is very sad and disheartening. Those who doesn't learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it. The US government only knows subjugation. Like Henry Kissinger once said, "To be an enemy of USA is dangerous, to be a friend/ally of USA is fatal". I hope that the Philippine government learns from what is happening in Ukraine. If this escalates further into a full scale war only the Filipinos will bear the massive burden of famine and poverty. The American government only wants war on every corner of the world because of it's declining economy.

I spent half a year living in the Philippines. That country has SO MUCH potential with an abundance of natural and human resources. Their people are talented and english speaking, they could do so well compared to other nations in the region. BUT they are their own worse enemy. Corruption and crime are crippling the country, the poverty there is awful. It's sad but I don't see things improving anytime soon.

Actually many of the Filipinos does not want US bases in the Philippines and voicing out that we do not want a proxy war. A lot of Filipino is actually monitoring about this issue and resulting a distrust with the President Bongbong Marcos. We refused to be a proxy war and to be a battleground. Me as an Indonesian, A close neighbour view on Philippine.
They closely resembled us, many island, diverse culture, people, and history. We saw them as our kin.
I admired Duterte and his foreign and domestic policy.vespecially his war on drugs action, though brutal.
But now i fear for them, they can be a legitimate target for Chinese attack because of the action of a few that does not represent them. And in turn drag the whole SEA region into the fiture war.
Many of my friend sad to see Philippine foreign policy. And angry they canceled many joint Chinese project because their master said so. The average PH citizens did not need any new US military bases, they need economic Infrastructures that China can provide and are willing to take the innitiative.
Well, i still hope for peace and prosperity in the region. We all should strive for it.

unfortunately, majority of Filipinos have no idea on the real score in Ukraine. they are under the impression that Ukraine is winning with the help of US. and so they have kept that POV that China is no match to the US's might (together with Australia, Japan). also, majority of Filipino politicians and policy-makers are pro-US. that's how deep the US influence is in Filipino society and politics.

I dont want to believe this because i work with people from the Philippines , they are the nicest, sweetest people. But I also know they are closest beyond Taiwan. So unfortunately they are kinda in the middle of the Pacific power struggle. I don't think my coworkers are even aware to what is going on. If I were the Philippines, I would be not letting go of the US but, should be warming relations with China.

I heard, they are planning to place all the Afghan refugees in the Philippines as a transit while they await the processes to get through. That would means thousands of Afghans will be placed in Philippines for years and maybe permanently in the event the application is unsuccessful.
2nd point. Afghanistan Taliban has just announced ban on opium planting n production. US has published an article critical of this decision by the Taliban. That would mean US is expecting trouble getting these for their consumption. Might be possible that US will use some remote islands to start cultivating these for export to US!!

I'm a US citizen retired in the Philippines. Yes the country needs infrastructure development but it's a nation of over 7,000 islands. It doesn't need high speed rail, it needs *BRIDGES*. Even a cheap little motor scooter can move faster than the ferries that currently provide transportation between islands

According to latest estimates, about 500,000 (half-a-million) lives in total have been lost. The Ukrainian Army has been basically erased. Scarified to the geopolitical interest of NATO. Nearly the whole country has been destroyed and about half of the 40,000,000 population have been displaced. I hope the Filipino people know these facts and make the right choice before going into this suicidal mission.
