With the extreme high level of shootings in public places in the USA, and the overall climate of violence in this country. Does it impact in the decision making when planning a trip, for business or pleasure to the USA? Some of my relatives in Ireland not all but some, have no desire to visit the USA anymore. I have learned that a few of them have become turned off to the problems here, and don't feel comfortable in public places here. It's primarily the older relatives which I can understand.

Is this becoming more common place for tourist to the USA, deciding its not a place I want to visit or do business with? If so I think I can understand their concern.

A lot of tourism in the US is related to specific areas, and high crime areas can be avoided.

Traditional tourist areas include parts of Florida, California, New England (especially in the Fall), as well as Las Vegas, NYC (mainly Manhattan) etc

As long as you are careful, there is no reason to stop going to the US, just be careful where you go and what you do.

I have heard that Texas is a good area to visit, and in terms of California, you can visit the Napa Valley wine country if you don't want to visit the cities, whilst New England is another fantastic area to visit. In terms of Florida, make sure you stay in relatively safe areas, and enjoy the sunshine, amazing beaches, food, entertainment and unique culture.

I find most Americans to be polite, decent and generous and warm people, even though I am sometimes critical of US politicians and Administrations, but then again my dislike of politicians is fairly universal.

America is a beautiful country, and certain neighbourhoods in certain cities relate to a lot of the often gang related crime, with most of the country being relatively safe.

Perception is very hard to overcome. My mother has friends who go to Paris every year. Some years back they quit over all of the issues with Muslims and Sharia in the Parisian suburbs. Maybe their hesitation to go was based on personal experience, and maybe not. Maybe it was just fear based on hearsay.

Either way, they got over the addiction of their annual pilgrmage to the Paris they loved.

Bad news travels fast. Dollars are precious. People don't want to risk issues when they travel. They are going to play it safe and go where they think it is safe.

I think a bigger concern that will impact the number of tourist visitors to the USA is the strength of the dollar on top of already high prices for hotels, restaurants, rental cars and many tourist attractions. The dollar has gained almost 15 percent value in the past year over many other currencies such as the Euro, so that means it will cost 15 percent more Euros, Pounds, Yen or Yuan to buy dollars to pay the high prices in the USA.

Violent crime and shootings in the US happen way too often but they usually don't happen in the places frequented by the bulk of international tourists. It's the same situation for Mexico - how many millions of tourists still go to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta or Cancun in spite of the horrific drug cartel violence in other states of Mexico?

Lmao so if you can trust wiki (I hate both left and right wing sites so I doubt wiki/twitter) but anyway there must've been just 6 mass shootings in the last year of the last century compared to 600+ last year, doing the simple math thats 24% increase per year which results in insane exponential increase leading to literally tens of millions of shootings after 50 years. Yeah as even kids know China/India are the future.

Violence in the USA is nothing new. You should have seen in during the crack epidemic days of the 1980's and 90's. Only there wasn't social media and most people didn't have internet yet so the information wasn't as widespread. Also like now, most of the violence is concentrated in areas of cities where most tourists won't have any reason to go, and the areas that they do go are relatively safe.

I am Canadian and still visit the US (did so a few months ago) but while gang violence generally happens in areas of the US not visited by tourists, mass shootings can happen absolutely anywhere. Including areas frequented by tourists.

The way you worded it ("all the problems") made the whole post seem performative and politically motivated, in an anti-American way.

The truth is, the over-publicization of America's problems is done to make the US seem like a worse place than it actually is. Its urban crime might not be good - it might be a problem relative to other western countries even (doubtful, these days, and in times past) - but the undue amount of focus America's violent crime gets is ridiculous - not just because other countries fare much, much worse, but because the ramifications of any kind of homicide or violent crime are typically felt more intimately in densely populated, small countries like the UK, than in the US, where population development and density follows much more heterogeneous patterns, across a continental nation that includes notable exclaves like Alaska and Hawaii - which don't have much in the way of violent crime, akin to other states and cities across the nation.

It's just become a way to attack America - if the Osbourne's were worried about crime, they could've left LA and moved to Massachusetts or Athens, Georgia, or even just Northern California - where they're now, in Buckinghamshire, doesn't really put them at a similar distance from violent crime than if they'd just moved to other locations in the states...it's just become a way to virtue signal, anti-Americanism has become popular for that.

In my opinion, the biggest long-term threat to the United States is illegal immigration. Unless we secure our southern border, we will no longer have an actual country. If the United States gets flooded with Latin Americans, then it will change the fundamental nature of this country. It will no longer be a western country.

Half of this country (mostly Democrats but some Republicans too) don’t have any problem with illegal immigration. In fact, they think it's a fabulous thing that should be encouraged. Any talk of stopping illegal immigration is considered xenophobic and racist, as we saw with the previous Presidential administration.

Given this reality, we will have to see how things transpire over the next few decades. It will be interesting. At least for the time being, the United States is still a great country. There is still time.

Your correct about there being Democrats, that don't seem to have any problems with illegal immigration. I've met a number of them in my lifetime. I've been a Democrat since I started voting decades ago, and I have always been against illegal immigration. I'm debating changing to Independent for the first time in my life. I lived part of my life in San Diego, so I saw first hand what a problem illegal immigration really is. I think a number of the Democrats that are not bothered by it, haven't had any real exposure to it by living in areas removed from it. So the problem just goes over them, and they can't relate to people that have been impacted by it.

Like you I agree if this country doesn't secure its border with Mexico, this country will keep changing and changing until it is basically Latin America. Quite frankly its already happened in several areas of the USA.
