What are the biggest misconceptions Indians have about USA?
Indian engineers are superior than American.
In last decade getting a job in abroad was trending a lot. One of my cousin got an IT job in Australia and entire family was proud of him. Suddenly he became a sensation in the family and everybody was looking upto him. Even my parents were forcing me to study hard and then get a job abroad.
My cousin was earning around INR 25k in Indian and in Australia his salary was around INR 1 Lakh. I always wondered if my cousin was so brilliant then why is he being paid such a low salary in country like Australia.
Why American companies bring Indian engineers in their country?
Recently I was searching for DevOps jobs in USA and in most job posting I have found that requirement was for 8+ years of experience. I was a bit surprised because I have heard that many people with just 3 to 5 years of experience were sent to USA by many MNC.

I researched about it and found a guy named Tech Lead on Youtube. Through his videos I came to know about the situation of Indian software engineers in USA. The truth is that Indians are given the opportunity to work in USA not because they are brilliant but because they are cheap labours. If a USA company hires a USA citizen as an employee then they have to follow the law and provide the minimum wage and other compensations. They need to treat their employee in proper way and the employee only need to work for 9 hours.
Meanwhile the engineers which are brought from India and China are just cheap labours. Companies doesn’t require to pay them high salaries and any compensation, these engineers are treated as labours by managers and they have to work extra hours inorder to secure their jobs.
After learning this everything made sense to me that why my cousin was paid low salary. Why Americans are losing their jobs to Indian and Chinese engineers and why Donald Trump has made it difficult for people in other countries to get a H1-B visa. People are criticising him for this decision but in reality what he did is for the future of his citizens.

Why Indians want to work in USA?
Most Indians always admire western culture. They believe that those people are superior than us and that we can live a luxurious life there. What they don’t know that USA is around 5 times more costlier than India. If you earn INR 1 Lakh per month then you will require around INR 5 Lakh or $7000 per month to maintain same lifestyle. The cost of living in USA is much higher when compared to India. The only benefit of living in USA is fresh air and the quality of life of middle class people in USA is much better than that of Indian’s.
What is the alternative?
If you really want to get a job in USA, rather than getting a chance through a MNC you should try to get a job by yourself. Only go to USA if you really want to settle down there otherwise if you are intelligent then you can earn a high salary in India as well.
Other alternative is Europe with Germany being the tech capital of Europe. You can find tech jobs in many cities like Berlin, London, Paris and Amsterdam. Unlike USA these countries only hire skilled individuals from all around the world because there is lack of IT engineers in their country.

What are the myths about Americans (United States)?
Here's a few things that people have rather ignorantly assumed in my personal experience:
We can carry guns anywhere. Not recommended. Hopefully some more restrictions will be placed on guns in the future, but as of right now there still are many places that you cannot carry a gun unless you are a police officer. I don't recommend you take a gun to a school. Concealed or open, period.
We are stupid. I don't know where this came from, but Americans are all about innovation and creativity. We have long been serious supporters of anything that moves us toward the future. We have some of the greatest minds and some of the hardest working people. We aren't stupid.
We are fat. Interesting thing to note, while visiting the United States you will likely find that the majority of citizens are nowhere near obese. We do however have a large overweight population that resides in the less wealthier places. It's a paradox. The richer, the skinner. The poorer, the fatter. Also, most touristy areas will be occupied with non-overweight citizens.

English is the only language we prefer to speak. Uuh… nope. I've met very few Americans who would choose to only speak English. Americans love those who can speak a language other than theirs. There is much pride in bilingualism and so on. Whenever I tell people I am fluent in Spanish even high schoolers respond with “Wow. That's really cool!” Now, many Americans cannot speak anything more than English simply because they don't have it as a priority and there's really not much you can do here with any other language besides Spanish (usually).
Our smiles are fake. When we smile at other people we are showing them that we are not cold, dangerous individuals. Our smiles are warm, friendly greetings. They aren't to be interpreted as superficial attempts to be friends with everyone. Stop overthinking it. It's just meant to be friendly.
We all live lavish lifestyles. Not really true… In fact, most people in this country are in debt trying to achieve a lifestyle that isn't meant for them.

What are the biggest misconceptions that Indians have about India?
Most of the Indians believe that the English we speak has a lot of pronunciation errors when compared to UK English or American English.
First thing, there is just one English, but many dialects such as American/UK/Australian etc.
Just as one of those dialects is the Indian English. This dialect is now spoken by as many as 250 million people! And hence it is a globally accepted form of English.
So, Whenever someone makes fun of your Pronunciation, don't feel bad, because whatever way you are speaking is perfect. Indian English is now one of the most spoken dialects of English Language!

What are some myths about the United States of America?
A couple of these are stereotypes but they do count as myths as well {not writing in any order} :
Obesity - Americans are almost always 6ft tall and weight 300 pounds {extremely obese} - not true. Though they do have a problem with obesity it’s not as widespread as people believe.
Language - That English is America’s declared national language. Actually it’s not but it is the most widely used language so not much difference.
Religion - That America is a Christian country. Actually they’re not despite majority of their population being Christians. They are one of the first countries to separate State and Church.
Freedom - That you can what ever you want {to a great extent} in the US - land of the free. Actually No you can’t. US has some of the widest and strictest legal systems in the world. You could get arrested for taking liquor over state lines. They are also one of the most monitored and policed populations on the planet.
Perception of Politics - That American politics is clean and efficient. It’s the opposite - their politics are just as dirty, corrupt and unreasonable {especially during election times} as it is in any country with a Westminister parliamentary or similar political system.

Stereotypes about African American and Hispanic people - That all African Americans are slum/ghetto gangsters dealing drugs and shooting each other in driveby’s while all Hispanics are drug cartel members with bosses in Mexico or South America. It’s as far away from the truth as it can be. Almost all African American and Hispanic people in the US are normal hardworking people {there is a poverty issue and it leads to organized crime and so on just like anywhere else but it’s a distinctive minority.}
Wealth - People believe America is the land of wealth and everyone there owns a nice independent house with cars and go on foreign trips frequently. Reality is quite different. The US has always had a significant poverty {relative to other parts of their population and even other developed nations} issue and wealth divide. This has led to anger against the perceived Elite, class issues and similar problems just like everywhere else.
Hollywood - There is a belief that all Hollywood movies and American Television Series are always excellent in quality. It’s not true. Most of the world especially people in India, China and elsewhere have this impression because we only get to see the best of what their media produces and this leads to a big inferiority complex regarding their own media industry. The truth is the US makes a lot of low and normal budget and extremely average/boring/flop shows/films as well but they are not known outside. Only AAA titles get big PR campaigns and thus this myth comes about.

关于非裔美国人和西班牙裔美国人的刻板印象——所有的非洲裔美国人都是贫民窟/贫民窟里的黑帮,他们贩毒,在汽车里互相射击,而所有的西班牙裔美国人都是贩毒集团的成员,他们的老板在墨西哥或南美,这与事实相去甚远。美国几乎所有的非裔美国人和西班牙裔美国人都是正常的勤劳的人{与其他地方一样,存在贫困问题,导致存在组织性的犯罪等,但这是一个独特的少数群体。}

Military and Warmongering - The US is considered invincible and victorious in all their wars and that Americans are a warmongering lot. Thats far from the truth. They have had their share of beatdowns and the US hasn’t won a decisive victory after WWII. Their operations in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere have always been bogged down and at best been partial successes only. These operations have also led to a massive backlashes domestically and every big war they join leads to a massive anti-war and pro-peace rallies. The Americans are just as peace-loving as the rest of us. It’s just that they’re very emotional and act in anger/reflex easily {moreso than other population} which is exploited by their Government over the years.
American Pie/Sex in the City - I had to write about this especially. People think the US is the land of free sex, that you could do “this” and “that” easily and it’s common to be promiscuous. No it’s not. They do have a culture of dating and sex but it’s not as much as what Hollywood paints it to be. Many of them are conservative and even the liberals take their relationships extremely carefully. They are no more promiscuous than the Europeans or the Brits. Hollywood wrongly paints them as sex-maniacs/nympho’s.
Accent - This is partially true. Accents other than the ones used in the US do get you teased/mocked and they are a negative if you’re planning to live/work/socialize in the US. But it’s not as bad as what the media makes it out to be as well. By the way, Americans have more accents than just the typical Texan and African American ones.

What are some popular misconceptions about the United States?
We actually have really good beer. It’s just that our shitty beer is the commercial, widely-marketed beer. I’m pretty sure no one buys Bud Lights for any reason other than theyre ridiculously cheap and 10 of them might give you a buzz, but who cares? You only spent about $3. American craft beer, on the other hand, is great, and expansive. But you have to actually go to America, and to these specific places to find them.
We call it “soccer”because that was the original, if colloquial, term for the sport. When it started in England in the 1860s, the first schoolyard league was called the “Association League”, or simply called “Assoccer” for short. Why that term came over here and stayed, I have no idea. But this is researchable stuff.
The U.S has tons of culture. There are cuisines unique to each region, slang and dialects unique to each region, and even races; many African Americans speak AAVE- African American Vernacular English and many Mexican-Americans speak Chicano English. There’s also differing heritage and music.
