This may come as a surprise to you but
The Wealthier a country is - the more Items it has in its “Essentials Basket”
This means in Wealthier Countries - Items are so affordable that they are classified as Essentials which are classified as Luxuries in Poorer Countries.
Take for Example a Car
In US a Standard Car can be purchased with 6 Months Median Professional Income
In India a Standard Car can be purchased with Minimum 30 Months Median Professional Income
In Canada a standard House can be purchased with 5.5 Years of Median Income
In India a Standard House can be purchased with 16 years of Median Income
In India you have a Lot of Govt Expenditure to offset which you have to charge a lot of taxes causing a Manufactured Product costing Rs. 96,000/- to sell for Rs. 4,71,000/- retail and on road.
This is 500%
In US the figure is 124%
In China the figure is 330%
Even in the Prosperous China - The Costs are more expensive when compared the USA.

There was a time when ice cream was classified by the Indian government as a “luxury product”!
Tell that to the vendors, dispensing some cold relief from the burning sun, with their pushcarts in the city streets today.

That's why I hate Central planners with a burning passion. Slavery can have multiple magnitudes, and controlling what people can make, how much they can make, what they can charge for it and how much of it will be taken away from them is one of them.

Exchange rates fixed on the speculations, rather than buying capacity for different currencies, a major factor rather than taxation,I'm not very professional, but I saw an article some time ago that explained the deviation between India's GDP and PPP. I think this is the key.

Sorry, Mr. KB, I cannot agree with your opinion this time
You cannot attribute all problems to the corruption of individual government officials, although this problem is indeed serious.
Cars and home appliances are all expensive to buy in India, and as long as they are not made locally (or simply assembled locally), they are surprisingly expensive.
I initially thought it was a tax issue and the government was too greedy, but I found that such things were still expensive in the duty-free shops at Delhi Airport. Once the rupee is converted into US dollars, half of its value appears to be wiped out.
Through studying international trade and economics, I think this is a problem with India's wealth structure. The purchasing power of the rupee is okay when it is used to buy local products, but when it comes to buying foreign products, its purchasing power is very poor. Because our local products are mainly low-end products, such as grain and ore, they lack competitiveness and are difficult to exchange for enough dollars in the international market. This makes the international purchasing power of the rupee much lower than its domestic purchasing power.

In politics became a huge wealth accumulating enterprise, I don't know their salary is taxable, the remaining earnings are absolutely non taxable..
That's why I feel happy while seeing the huge quantities of cash unearthed by ED from the homes of opposition parties’s leaders. Even though it's vendetta politics by Modi, common man will be erupting in joy.
But I don't know any political leader convicted and sent to jail in the last 8 years, except Lalu.
Another surprising thing is in UP, there's no raid on SP and BSP leaders, why? Are they not corrupt?

Chandresh Patel
The fact is you have to do corruption in India to win an election. Let’s assume you are normal employee working 9 to 5 job. Will you go for any election campaign? Or to attend rally of any polititian? I don’t think so. Only free people or poor people go there. They don’t come for free. You have to give some money, food, transportation etc.
I consider AAP as one of the most honest political party in India. They declare each and every penny of donation. But we see what is happening to them. Almost the entire leadership is sent to jail. The irony is they are sent to jail under corruption charges where the government hasn’t found even a single penny. Modi doesn’t condier BSP and SP as opponent. When need arise, those people will support Modi and this is the case with many other parties.
Modi endlessy talk about various corruption under congress but couldn’t send even a single minister from congress era to jail. On the other hand, whoever joins BJP becomes clean and all the cases are dropped against them.

That's an exception because it's too wealthy and too small. Everyone there could afford multiple cars and the population density is too high. Singapore is basically the same size as East Delhi.

How come the Crypto Lawyer/ Banker/ Author/etc etc says “Even in the Prosperous China - The Costs are more expensive when compared the USA.”, when he should be defending his Viral Masters ? If they are so Prosperous then every1 should have full freedom & cheaper goods, not Suppressed.

Rajan.S.A
In India everything is corrupt the burden comes only on the middle class who dreamt of buying a car .
Huge cost above all 28% GST + road tax + All. Kind of cesses+ insurance
Not for the rich class…..
Huge disparity due to the planning commission
When we compare the countries check the per capita income also

The answer is not totally correct because eith a population of 1.3 billion there may be 50 million who have disposable income that can afford to buy any car.Plus eith Amazon and Flipkart and others and Banks offering car loans to general public more and more people are capable.

“In Canada, a standard House can be purchased with 5.5 Years of Median Income”
As a Canadian, I can assure you that nothing can be further from the truth - Canada has among the worst house price-to-income ratios among developed countries
Average house price in Canada in 2022: CAD 704,000
Average Canadian income in 2022: CAD 61,119.24
So its close to 12 years of median income
Also, note that bulk of Canada is uninhabitable and way too cold - the majority of the people live in and around 3 cities - Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal where the housing scenario is even worse”

That’s median household income not median individual income
Why use household income for Canada when for US and India you are using individual professional income ? That’s misleading
Also the numbers from Statista are in Canadian dollars not US dollars, so you are essentially bumping up the numbers by around 40% by converting currency twice
Here’s the screenshot from Statista, the numbers clearly are in Canadian dollars as mentioned

Poor and Rich are perspective. You can have your own definition. For me people in hunter gathering generation are rich. Because, they have time, freedom, explore. Compared to modern society in developed countries people are working more and have less free time. They are essentially slaves by modern lifestyle. To maintain that they become slave of system which sucks most of their earnings and have little or none to spare. People living paycheck to paycheck and 12hrs or more just to fulfill basic needs. For me having car as a necessity is not luxury, able to roam freely is luxury which most of people in today’s world don’t have. In my old days hiking was our daily lifestyle.

Like to read your writing in Quora but not agreed with you this time.
“Canada a standard House can be purchased with 5.5 Years of Median Income” is totally untrue.
A newly built townhouse cost about 1 million cad which is much higher than 5.5 years of median income.
Even a small new bachelor unit in high rises condo cost about 500k cad and the condo fees are usually high.
Im living in Canada since ’71.

High Taxes to Discourage the Middle Class to Buy Cars

I respect Mr. KB very much, but you may lack some experience in the economic field.
Why is it that it is much cheaper for Indians to buy daily necessities than in developed countries, but it is more expensive to buy things like cars, computers, and drones?
Taxes are not the main reason at all.
For this question, please refer to the article by the famous Singaporean economist Aya Shawn on Quora.
The fundamental reason is that most of India's wealth is in agriculture and services, and the local economy accounts for a large proportion of the overall economic figures. The proportion of international trade is very small.
This makes India's PPP and GDP deviate greatly (the price of buying domestically produced agricultural products and basic services is low, but the price of buying global goods is very expensive)
Because India cannot provide goods like cars and computers on its own. The bulk of the value of these commodities comes from global markets.
All agricultural countries face this problem, and India is not a special case.
When India's manufacturing industry develops to the level of China, you will find that no matter how high taxes are, it will not stop the price reduction of cars.
China's automobile manufacturing tax is 16% value-added tax + 9% consumption tax = 25%, which is similar to India. However, the purchase cost of their cars is almost the lowest in the world.
