Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

been there in 2004 when I was 6, the ancient town looks much more beautiful than it was 20 years ago. At the time the road was also bad, we took 6 hours to cover some 120km journey. Glad to see its huge development.

Lijiang is my favorite city in China. Been so many times, and still want more. Go up to the mountains to Meili and it’s totally different altogether.

Due to the diversity of landscapes this area of Yunnan was a botanists dream when Europeans first discovered this area in the 19th century. On top of that the landscapes, architecture and people are amazingly beautiful too.

Wow, that whole area is so picturesque everywhere you look. There are so many scenes you showed that could become award winning pictures. That trip had to be a major information overload everywhere you went. Thank you for sharing this trip the whole city was truly a work of art at so many levels.

OMG! Thank you for this video and showing us this beautiful region in China. I have now added it to my bucket list destinations. I would love to see all the video you didn’t use. I would have loved to know the story behind all the women around the city dressed in what I can only assume is traditional garb- possibly wedding dress, having their pictures taken. It was amazing how much the old traders were carrying in their backs over the mountains to Tibet. If they had chiropractors back then I am sure they were busy! Once again thank you.

Love to see your China videos! I've visited Hangzhou twice when my uncle worked for Microsoft there and I fell in love with the people, scenery and food. But sadly it's hard to visit now since my uncle retired and is living back at my home country, but I live vigorously trough your videos and reminiscent about my time in China ���

I am going to say almost exactly what I have said numerous times before. You two have a really impressive way of travelling through new climates and showing them to us. I remember when you spend a long time in a cold NZ winter and you travelled all over NZ and showed your viewers what you saw, learned, and experienced. As you always do, and you did here, in NZ (where I retired after a lifetime in NYC) you are understanding, insightful and respectful to the places you showed us. Nice job. .

I visited Li-Jiang and stayed there for a week back in 2013 when I was a sophomore in college. Now I live in the states but still think about the absolutely wonderful time I had back then from time to time.

I visited Li-Jiang and stayed there for a week back in 2013 when I was a sophomore in college. Now I live in the states but still think about the absolutely wonderful time I had back then from time to time.

4680 m is 15,354 ft! That's higher than any mountain in the continental US, and only six peaks in Alaska top it. It's amazing that all those people weren't getting altitude sickness.

What a great day and a great video. You shared it in such a way we could also live some of that experience. What a view, what a town and its people. With all good adventures their has to be a height challenge. That ladder ! The days experience is the greatest souvenir.

The song that the guy was singing is called “追梦人” or “zhui meng ren”, which literally means dream chaser. The song was dedicated to a Chinese/Taiwanese female writer called SanMao “三毛”,who was the first ever Chinese woman to live in the Sahara desert with her Spanish husband Jose during the 70s. She passed away in 1991, some says it’s her husband’s tragic death that led to her mental issues which eventually led to her death. She in a true hero in Chinese literature.

"It'll change your perspective on everything." I absolutely agree - the most valuable thing I got from my time in the US military is having gone to multiple countries. I was not your typical US serviceman, I was in the habit of researching where we were going (a little more time consuming in the 1960s) and staying away from the bars and brothels, instead mingling with the locals (as much as we were allowed to) and learning how similar we all are. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything! Fantastic episode, thank you for letting us tag along!

Yes, I agree that Li Jiang is most beautiful ancient Town in the world, I have been to many part of Western Europe, US and a fair bit of Asian including Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

I was in Yunnan last month, spent two days in Lijiang and really wish I could’ve stayed longer. 200% will go back!!

Magical place!! Looks like a once in a lifetime place to visit, where very view is beautiful. The Nazi people seem friendly and excited to share their way of life. All your video are fun and interesting but this was for me the best so far. Happy New Year!
