Yeah, SOP now is to burn every tank that’s hit if at all possible because Ukraine rarely controls the field after an engagement. So they just spend an extra FPV drone to make sure it’s a husk so that the Russians can’t tow it away for repairs.

At the onset to ww2 we had 1300 large forges in the 5,000 ton range . By the end of WW2 we has 10,000 or so. Vital for producing aircraft and armored vehicles. Today we have 4. It would take at least 3 years for the first one to be ready for use. Russia has 12,000 forges in this range. Ready to go. (China has near 50,000 and many are in the 20,000 ton range).
We cannot produce enough equipment to fight either opponent..

US also has a lot of stored M1 and I presume stored in better shape than Russia as I doubt they invested much in storage conditions.
Anyway, it just show we need to continue / resume (GOP, WTF) our support to Ukraine and EU need to wake up faster to the new reality (US not fully dependable anymore and military threats higher than ever before). I see we started but are still far from it. EU will widely miss the march 1.000.000 155mm shells obxtives. Wonder if we could just purchase them from other countries (S Korea please)

They cannot get the advanced optic systems from France that the latest variant had. They are stripping systems off old hulls and trying to make them work.
Engines and transmissions are being rebuilt. This is not cost effective fir a T80 turbine but makes sense on the diesels.
All this work gets the old hull moving but it is not a reliable vehicle, it is still more than 30 years old, up to 50. Some systems will not be working, some will break quite quickly.
But as the Russians are not using tanks as designed, and are happy to use them singly in local assaults, the lack of many systems will not have an impact. As long as they move and the guns work, they do not need more.
Russia started with around 2,500 active tanks of all types on paper. Some of those would have been in maintenance.
There were rumoured to be 10,000 hulls in storage but the later satellite shots showed many had disappeared in the last 10 years, scrapped. Hulls left around 4,000 to 5,000.

If the U.S was on a war footing and was experiencing the loss rate that Russia is experiencing the whole vehicle production capacity of the US (Ford, GM, Mack, and all their suppliers) would be churning out war materials…. each facility hundreds of components a day… Look, there are 25 major plants just putting vehicles together. The logistics and resources in and of the US would dwarf the total European plus Russian manufacturing….

there is no doubt that Ukrainians despite their short coming in man power and industrial base have wrecked havoc for Russian armor
so not quantity is not always quality in its own right
