If you come to sabah Malaysia.. There is a small community of local natives that also stays in houses floating at the sea like this too...

I love your videos. This one is especially interesting to me, and wonder where the sewer pipes are? Because of the fishing it would be a lot of contamination. I love the simplicity and hardworking spirit of Chinese people.

Great content. I was never interested in Chinese culture until I watched a video Luke Korns made last year. Very interesting country, I'm impressed. New subscriber : )

I have been to Hainan island twice. On my second visit I was on a cruise ship. Disembarking we, a group of 9, 7 women and two men took a stroll into the cruise ship town (Sanya). After the visit we headed back to the cruise ship. All of a sudden I heard a scream, a man tried to rip a necklace off one in my group. I ran back but he did not get the necklace and his companion was waiting to pick him in a scooter. Arriving at the ship, a plainclothes policeman was asking questions about the attempted thievery. All was ok with my group other than the attempted thievery. It was explained to us that Sanya has a lot of surveillance cameras and questioned my group in order to make a report. The attempted thievery was viewed by the police and recored.
Any ladies visiting China should remove all exposed jewelry, ringd and don't carry an expensive handbag. You are advertising for a possible thief attempt.

Interesting, after all people making a living from the sea do same similarities. One thing I would suggest for you, Yan. Despite it may not be easy to spot, the work of Chinese government in modernizing and improving people's lives. Not only economically, but also culturally. Yes, China has a very long history, filled with tradition. However, not everything from the past means good. Superstitions, treatment of women, just a couple of examples where the past cannot be followed, as it doesn't match a modern society, based on the rule of law. Corruption is a major one, and it has to be said current leadership under *** has done tremendous improvements in eradication of corruption. For all that are interested in China, there are very good TV shows, one I recommend, as related to rural life is "The story of xing Fu". "Like a flowing river" is also a good one.he city? Thank you for your travels, I deeply appreciate going with you.

Thank you very much for your wonderful channel, I am your new follower from Costa Rica, I have seen dozens of channels about China on YouTube but yours is the best, it makes me feel as if I were there, congratulations and I hope you will always be number one, God Bless you, from now on on YouTube I will only watch your videos, you are the best

@ymhktravel
Those houses where the public seem to have free access is a dreamland for the homeless. I'm surprised they don't lock it even though there's a gate at the entrance. Is it one of those abandoned housing projects? I know China definitely has homeless people not as many for a size of 1.4B compared to for eg, USA or in Europe. I'm sure the homeless in San Francisco wouldn't mind making those private houses one of their own, even for a temporary period! Lol...

@sarahsmileseriously
I love the overture and the video. Thank you so much for sharing. What a wonderful wonderful video… how interesting that someone would develop and build a project like that and not move into it or “”sell it

@williamwilliam
The floating houses look quint, but I can't help but to wonder where the daily human waste and excrements are being discharged. If, in all likelihood, the excrements are discharged directly into the sea, that will most certainly contaminate the seawater and, yuks, even eaten by the fishes. Not hygienic at all!

@johnrivers3813
I was wondering that too but the water did look fairly clear. I've been to several marinas and house boats and the water never looks that good. Maybe they collect it in large containers and dump it further out in the sea so they don't contaminate the water and the fish. It kinda looked like one of the fishers was doing exactly that near the end of the video.

@williamwilliam
@johnrivers3813 That might be correct, but I did not see any visible septic tank on the floating houses or any sewage pipes leading to onshore to dispose of the human waste. Oh well, I supposed China's relevant authorities are aware of that pollution problem and have either already tackled or have plans to tackle that problem.
Cheers and all the best.

In fact, every floating house has its own sewage treatment facility. It's been compulsory since 2016. Though Lingshui is a small county, there are more than 15 sewage treatment plants. Water pollution will cause big trouble since tourist industry is the top priority of Hainan, waste water will be processed before being disposed even in a small village like xincunzhen.

Before Hainan was established as a province, Hainan was long under the jurisdiction of Guangdong province. The source of this history can even be traced back to the Ming Dynasty for more than 600 years. Although Hainan has changed its name several times in the history of nearly one thousand years, it was basically located within the jurisdiction of Guangdong province until the province was established in 1988.

I like to watch your videos since they are so unique. There are so many places that we cannot reach because they are not common to most oversea tourists.

It is so sad that China do not understand basic economics, so much resources and money wasted on building apartments and houses that nobody can afford to actually live in, if the buildings are even completed! China is all about making everything look good on the surface, fantastic infrastructure..., but the quality is horribly bad!

@user-qn1tp6kr1r

Is Hainan to china what Bali is to south east Asia + Oceania, Mallorca to Europe and Hawaii to North America?

@stopfighting886
Hainan is a famous holiday resort in China, known for its tropical island climate. It's packed with tourists during winter time. It's definitely a fancy trend in China to enjoy winter holiday in Hainan.

@Violet-cp3kk
Hainanese chicken rice is famous in Malaysia and Singapore , are this dishes originally from Hainan?

@stopfighting886
They are quite different. White chopped chicken is the most important main dish in Hainan. It's a formal course which will not be absent in any local feast. While Hainanese chicken rice is more like a fast food set meal.

Does anyone know more about the empty housing development that Yan visited? It looked more abandoned than unsold.

The developer bought some of the villagers' land and these houses are compensation for the villagers. However, the villagers were not happy with the houses and were unwilling to sign a relocation agreement. The developer has now abandoned his original plan and this villa area will be converted into a caravan camp and resort.

Guan Zhong(管仲), a philosopher from the pre Qin period in CN, proposed more than 2700 years ago: “When the granaries are full, the people follow appropriate rules of conduct, and when there is enough to eat and wear, the people know honor and shame.”(“仓廪实而知礼节,衣食足而知荣辱”)

@sklee2074
The quote highlights the relationship between material life and morality, i.e., the former is the basis for the latter, and that morality and social norms are the product of a certain degree of material development. Without the basic assurances for life, the best systems will not be followed, and the moral standards of the people will remain low. At all times, governance should focus first on improving the material conditions of a society. This is a very practical concept of state governance.
