Jason is too poorly informed abt. this train.
The train is a JUST very short traject/portion of a much much longer END PLAN spanning 1000km to the city of Surabaya.
So the project is not a completed one yet... in fact FAR from finished.
It doesn't EVEN really start in the capital of Jakarta but in an area of an abandoned old airport...nor does it end in Bandung, but in a small town ONE HOUR by car or feeder train to the real cool city of Bandung in the hills.
Jason is a bit duped, as most Indonesians are...led to think that this bullet train is a READY commercially viable connecting transport for the public from Bandung to Jakarta vice versa.
IT IS NOT !! ( yet)
Now only the curious "HAVES" canafford riding this train and for NOVELTY SAKE only and the EXCITEMENT of being the AHEAD of the REST.....
The promised speed of 350km/h couldn't be reached in that short distance...that's my experience.

Much different than when I first visited Jakarta in 1986 when it was more like a giant village, as depicted in the film, "The Year of Living Dangerously". But the world has improved. One tip for foreigners, never ask a yes/no question, since the answer will always be "yes", regardless. They want you happy and think a "no" answer would be argumentative. Ask, "Where does this road go?" not, "Does this road go to Jakarta?". The later would elicit "yes", as if all roads go to Jakarta (in both directions).
Re kopi counters today, there are usually 3 choices - Expresso, Long Black, and Americano. The later is half Expresso - half water, a name from Italy when they served American soldiers in WWII (couldn't handle the high octane). Long Black is similar but 25% water, a name from New Zealand, I read. Fancy hotels have Expresso self-serve machines, which are a learning curve.
Always ask questions at airports and other transit, especially in the outer islands.

You should get off at Tegal Luar because it's not too far to downtown Bandung, from Padalarang it's quite far. yeah, you got off at the wrong station. but both have trains to downtown Bandung
