Oh, this needs a text book to include all the benefits of reading. I'll try to state the most important ones from my point of view.

1.No matter what you read, even a children's book, would add to you somehow. It can add to your knowledge, it can add to your personality, it can add to your character or it can add to your life expertise without actually having to experience stuff. I remember up until I was 12 years old, me and my group of reader friends, agreed to each compile a list of any piece of information we learned from the novels we read. After the first 3 months, each of us filled a 400-page notebook with almost unique pieces of information from all fields of life.

2.It greatly enhances your linguistic skills. I can easily see the difference of language level between people who read and people who don't read.

3.It gives you perspective. It teaches you to have a point of view on everything.

4.It grows your imagination wildly. Try, for example, reading Harry Potter before watching the movies and after. Before watching the movies, your imagination runs wild. You may imagine things, the movie makers themselves couldn't. Now, try again after watching the movies. You simply can't. While you're reading, you just can't imagine any image of harry other than Daniel Radcliffe, and so on.

I can keep going for a very long list of benefits, but I guess this is enough.

For many reasons. It teaches you grammar and spelling. It may be unfair, but if you say “ain’t” in a job interview you won’t get hired. (I know there’s spell check and ain’t is in some dictionaries).

It’s fun. (and pleasure is good for your health).

You could become a proofreader or editor.

It helps you to see the “other” as a human being, whether that other is a person of a different “race,” country, religion, a different time, or whatever. It helps you understand how other people think and feel. This is especially true of fiction. In a diverse nation, this is good for democracy.

It helps your imagination (science fiction and fantasy).

It helps with attention, memory and background knowledge.

Nonfiction, of course, helps you learn new facts and ideas.

Today’s youth are probably better at multi-tasking than older people. However, sometimes you need to concentrate on one thing.

For many reasons.

1.One huge one for me is to read older classics and realize the value that was instilled into people through the medium.

2. It allows one to glimpse into how simple life really can be,, but how over complicated it has become.

3. It makes one realize that perspectives vary on a huge scale. Time changes perspective. Life changes perspective. Not everyone thinks as you do.

4. It invites new ways of thinking. Which in turn should enrich ones existence. It helps with being stoic in the face of inevitable change and the chaos' that come along with that.

5. It helps with vocabulary. It should at least.

There are so many benefits.

Because reading enables us to view things, situations, time periods from other perspectives and broadens our view of the world as well as shaping our character. It is also vital for young kids to read in order to expand their verbal skills and vocabulary.

Because it gives one a solid foundation from which to view all events. Human beings have changed very little over the last 2000 years. We are the killer species. That is why we survived and it will be our undoing.
