Despite looking so big on a map, Greenland is less than 80% of the area of Kazakhstan. Yet it has the population of a small town and virtually no roads. Locals travel between towns by airplane.
Bir Tawil is the largest area of land without any recognised claims to it. A few people have tried to claim it for fun, but no country claims it.
If you add the populations of the five least populated continents (Antarctica, Australia, South America and North America), plus the world’s third most populous country (the USA, again) you still get a total less than the population of China. India is growing much faster than China and will overtake it fairly soon. Indeed, people often think that India or China are “about one billion” people, but actually they’re about 1.3 billion.

Brazil is the world’s fifth-largest country in both population and area.
The world’s most populous subnational entity is the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It has a population of just a tiny bit larger than Brazil (which as I said is the fifth most populous country in the world). The world’s largest subnational entity in area is Sakha Republic in Siberia, which is about the area of India but has a population of under one million (ie well under one one-thousandth of India’s population).
The hottest place in the world by year-round average temperatures is the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia. The hottest place in the world by highest recorded air temperature (57°C) is Death Valley, USA.

Nauru, with over 13,000 people claims to be the world’s smallest independent republic. Niue, with 1,200 people, also claims to be the world’s smallest republic. Niue is much larger in area than Nauru. Both are pretty much one single island. Nauru is famous for mining the whole of their island till there was nothing left. Niue isn’t famous for anything much but is a somewhat popular holiday destination for New Zealanders. It maintains a close relationship with New Zealand although legally it is independent. Many more Niueans live in New Zealand or Australia than in Niue (something like 20 times more!)
Ethiopia claims to be the world’s second-oldest officially Christian country. They also rank up there as one of the world’s most religious countries (almost half Muslim, and the rest Christian). Unlike the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa which converted to Christianity in the 19th century due to European influence, Ethiopia has its own brand of orthodox Christianity which is very different from Roman Catholicism or Protestantism.

Switzerland only joined the United Nations in 2002. It had a long history of conservatism, independence and neutrality. It became a founding member of EFTA in 1960, but voted against joining the EEA in 1992. It joined Schengen in 2008 but its population still reject joining the EU.
If Australia had the population density of Bangladesh, it could easily fit in all the world’s population.
Countries that moved to purpose-built (planned) capital cities during the 20th or 21st centuries are: Australia (Canberra, from Melbourne), Brazil (Brasilia, from Rio de Janeiro), Nigeria (Abuja, from Lagos), Belize (Belmopan, from Belize City), Pakistan (Islamabad, from Karachi), Myanmar (Naypyidaw, from Yangon).

These countries have no official written constitution: UK, Israel, NZ and Saudi Arabia (Saudi Arabia has declared that the Quran is its constitution).
Texas has fought in two major wars for the right to keep slaves (among other things): the Texas Revolution (which eventually made them an independent republic, separate from Spain/Mexico) and the American Civil war, where they were part of the Confederate states.

The largest city north of the Arctic Circle is Murmansk, Russia, with over 300,000 people.
India was meant to phase out English in the 1960s. but several factors including opposition from southern states who see Hindi as the language of the ancient oppressors and who oppose the racism of the north and so are often quite proud of not speaking Hindi, made this difficult.
As far as I know, only one country is named after Jesus (“El Salvador” literally means “The Saviour”), country are named after Simon Bolivar (the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela). As far as I know, Liechtenstein, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Saudi Arabia are the only countries named after their ruling families.
