8. Sweden - visited distant family relatives.

12. Spain - first time a five minute stay, the second time somewhat longer.

28. Brunei -small but rich country.
29. Thailand - land of smiles and a friendly and interesting place. Could live there. Have been here countless times as it is my departure point for other countries after I leave Australia on the long flight to Europe or elsewhere in Asia. I have had many visits to the dentist as I like their system and it is far cheaper than Australia.

This is my first answer on Quora, after having spent more than a year prowling around and contemplating answering more… politically charged questions, so forgive me for making formatting mistakes.I’m currently 17 years old and of mixed Arab ancestry (mostly Jordanian + Iraqi), but I was born and raised in the United States of America and have been living in the United Arab Emirates since 2014; therefore, I guess I’ll be starting off with those two.

· United States: My home, my birthplace, my childhood in the most literal sense of the word and the country that I identify most closely with - specifically, the state of Michigan. As a third-culture kid, “figuring myself out”, per se, when it came to bridging my heritage with my upbringing was a very difficult process on an emotional level but one that I seem to have reconciled with and have come to champion for the time being.
· United Arab Emirates: I have been living in Dubai for the past three years, and am currently attending an international and “American” IB school. Before starting high school in a foreign country, my mind had never even considered or taken into account the prospect of living anywhere outside of the U.S., let alone going to high school, graduating in another country. Dubai has become a really great place to be as I’ve grown, however, and will likely have a lasting impact on me as a formative experience of my life.

· Canada: I have traveled to Canada on three separate occasions, all of which were on road trips with my immediate or extended family, twice to Niagara Falls (don’t worry, I concede that the Canadian side is SO much more beautiful!) and once to Toronto. I’m pretty sure that I was 13 when I last went, and my grandma and aunt had come from Europe to visit us in America. At any rate, our time in Niagara Falls was wonderful, although I remember almost falling out of a roped-off section of the caves in the tours that the Canadians take people on under the falls. I also remember paying $25 CAD to buy frozen yogurt for my brother.

· United Kingdom: I have been to London and the UK no less than six times, as my maternal grandparents and two of my uncles live in the suburbs; I’ve also been to several coastal cities and towns in southern England, including Dover and Ramsgate, and have taken a day trip to Bristol. When I was younger, I had never really enjoyed visiting the UK, aside from seeing my family, because I’d mistakenly thought that the entire nation was Central London and nothing else. (I sincerely hope that I haven’t offended any Britons already, .a stereotypically ignorant child Anyways, London is a beautiful and cosmopolitan city, and I’m come to realize as I’ve continued to visit that the city is just filled to the brim with utterly fascinating history and culture - however, I would have to say that my favorite place that I’ve seen in the UK would be the coastal city of Ramsgate, just because of its charming streets and wooden parts that face out into the azure blue English Channel.

Jordan: The homeland of my father . I also possess dual citizenship as of last year, and have a Jordanian passport that I have, as it turns out, only used once to enter and leave Jordan. Growing up, Jordan had become my nightmare the more I went to it: as a young child, I dreaded the prospect of seeing my extended and faraway relatives. See, as a kid, I had never known how to speak Arabic fluently, and had known little more than greetings and niceties, as my parents had made to decision to speak English at home when my two siblings and I were toddlers. I had always thought that it was my fault for not knowing how to read, write or communicate in the language of my heritage and religion; I also could not communicate with most of my extended family members, I began to harbor a deep fear of the trips my family would take as I grew older. However, the 10-day trip that I last took completely changed my viewpoint on the country to what one could call a more neutral opinion; my dad took my family on a road trip around the country, and we visited all of the country’s famous tourist sites: the Dead Sea, Petra, Aqaba and Wadi Rum, to name a few. My highly improved Arabic skills (I still can’t speak without tripping up and making a fool of myself, but I can now read, write, and understand the language almost like a native), combined with a side of the country that I’d never had the chance to see before, really helped me to reconcile the awful memories I’d held on to with the wonderful new experiences I’d made.

· Spain: I traveled - again, on a road trip with my family - throughout southern Spain for about a week, flying in from the UK into Malaga and leaving from Madrid. While my first impression of the country was… less than perfect after a tumultuous first night, Spain would end up becoming one of my favorite places in the world to date. Granada, in particular, was nothing short of a magical city to me - from touring the serene Alhambra palace grounds, kept in pristine condition from the time of Islamic rule in Iberia, to eating tapas and calamari and assorted fish and fried peppers and croquettes and seafood paella on the bustling cobblestone streets and fountain-lined walkways only a few hours later, is something that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I also had the best gelato of my life in Granada - who would have known that spicy dark chocolate could be so tasty? Other than that, I really enjoyed visiting Tarifa, a coastal town that sits on the Iberian side of the strait separating Europe and Africa and connecting the Atlantic and the Mediterranean; seeing Morocco in the distance was surreal. I also liked seeing Madrid, where I had another delicious paella (this one was veggie) and almond turrón.

Thailand: I went on an organized school trip in 11th grade with a large group of my friends and peers, as well as several teachers, to the north and west of Thailand for about six days, flying from Dubai to Bangkok and then onwards to Chiang Mai for a few days and also to Mae Sariang for several days, a Thai village on the Burmese border where a minority people known as the Karen live. This experience was… just thinking about it gives me chills, because Thailand proved to be beyond surreal and better than anything I could have ever expected. The sights, the people, the places, the nature, the weather, the food, the streets, the temples, the night markets, the smiles… it was just unimaginably amazing, and I can’t describe the individual things I did there . I cannot stress this enough: it is an absolute MUST that you travel to Thailand, and certainly to the cultural havens of the north, at least once in your lifetime. I swear that you will not be disappointed, and that you will leave with memories that will last for a lifetime .

· Turkey: Before going on a trip to Jordan, my family and I flew from Chicago to Istanbul and spent about a week (maybe less?) in the transcontinental city that’s earned Turkey its reputation as one of the centers of the world, figuratively and literally. Going to Istanbul was an experience that I don’t think I’ll ever forget - and yes, I know I’ve already said this so many times, but trust me when I say that Istanbul is truly a magical city. I remember going on a ferry across the Bosphorus (I got unusually queasy, but hey, that’s not worth remembering, right?), visiting the Blue Mosque, Taksim Square and the Hagia Sophia, as well as going shopping at some mall on the European side with my mom and having some scrumptious kebab in an authentic Turkish restaurant that night. If I could go to Turkey again sometime soon, I really would ......

Germany: Similarly to the UK, I have relatives living in Germany, and I have been to the country several times in the past. Both my aunt and my uncle live in towns located in Lower Saxony, and the last time we traveled to Germany we took a road trip to several amazingly unique and enjoyable places, which really helped me to shape a much more favorable opinion of Germany and the kindness of its people! I really enjoyed an especially tasty hamburger in Hamburg , took a day trek up the rolling forests, walkways, churches, streets and hills of Heidelberg, and took a terrifyingly rickety zipline up to the top of the Alpspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany and the knee-shaking yet breathtaking platform where I stood on a metal mesh platform more than a mile above the ground; finally, I spent two days in the Bavarian border town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, exploring mountains, lakes, forests, caves and waterways, all of which made me which that I had lived in the Bavarian Alps growing up. The amount of döner I have cumulatively eaten (a more fitting term is consumed) throughout my several trips to Germany would already total to more than enough stains on shirts to last a lifetime, but my love affair with the German-Turkish food will never die out.

· Austria: Funny story - in the road trip around Germany that I previously mentioned, on our way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is literally right on the German-Austrian border, my mom, who was driving, ended up crossing into Austria without intending to do so! We ended up touring the Austrian Tyrol for about two hours, and and stopped several times along the way to drink in some breathtakingly beautiful sights and procure some pictures of the lakes, trees and mountains. I’m not one to make quick assumptions, but to me, it seemed like we had been transported onto the filming location of The Sound of Music - and it was incredible!

· France: Apparently, I went (with my parents, obviously) to Paris when I was a baby or a toddler or something; honestly, I can recall absolutely nothing, but I’m putting France here for the sake of self-gratification. I’m sure it’s a lovely country, anyways - besides, who wouldn’t want to visit Nice, Cannes and the French Riviera at some point?

· Bahrain: I went to Bahrain for three days to attend a cousin’s wedding. It was really sandy and foggy and hot, because some sandstorm was blowing in from Saudi Arabia at the time, so I wasn’t a huge fan of the weather. The wedding was good Arab wedding fun, though!
For the time being, I’m really grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to visit such fascinating and wonderful places.
