How do I wake up a deaf kid?

Don Grushkin
As a former Deaf kid (and current Deaf adult), my parents would:
Turn on my bedroom light
Flash/flicker lights, such as a hall light (only works if bedroom door is open)
Tap or shake me awake
Buy an alarm clock with built in flashing light (some models connect to bedroom lamps or vibrating device that goes under the mattress, often sold separately)
Not that hard unless your kid is a sound sleeper. *nudges you with elbow* See what I did there? Hyuk! Hyuk!

Stijn Hommes
How do lights wake you up? If I was deaf, I'd need a vibration device to wake me. With my eyes closed I won't see changing lights.

回复Don Grushkin

Don Grushkin
We’re usually sensitive to light. Also helps to sleep in dark rooms. If there’s natural light coming into the room that does interfere with noticing when a light has been turned on.

回复Stijn Hommes

Of everything fails a cat or bucket of water shut do it

回复Don Grushkin

I have a clock that wakes me up by slowing becoming brighter and brighter. Your body naturally wakes up to light, like most non-nocturnal animals - we evolved waking up to the rising sun. Your eyes aren’t black-outs, you can see light through your eyelids, and more importantly, your body can respond to that light.

回复Stijn Hommes

Laurie Moore
I’m not deaf, but lights wake me instantly. I have to have black out curtains to keep the morning sun from waking me. (I have to get up at 5:45 for work, I do NOT want to wake up any earlier than that!)

回复Stijn Hommes

Shi Blackwood
I’m not deaf but lights wake me up…. You can still sense light if your eyes are closed.

回复Stijn Hommes

Deaf or not, tapping or shaking a foot is generally less startling that doing it to the head or torso.

回复Don Grushkin

I don't know about that. If someone shook or tapped on my foot while I was asleep, I think I would try to kick the person who was touching me. If they tapped on my torso or head, I think my first reaction would to move my body away from them. So, touching the legs or feet of a sleeping person might be a bit dangerous in comparison to touching the shoulders, back or head.

回复Barry Gehm

Takayuki Karahashi
Can I apply wasabi on your nose to wake you up?

回复Don Grushkin

Ethan Allen
By way why I dont suggest actually shaking them or tapping them aweake is with me personally if I am touched flight or fight kicks in I will be waking up fighting and not realize I hit someone until I connect.

回复Don Grushkin

A Parent Thing
My brother was deaf. Went to school in Fulton, MO. A school for the deaf. After school he came home and got a job in a factory our dad would just go in and shake his shoulder till he woke up later on someone came out with an alarm clock that bright lights would flash on and off. Even tho he was deaf he was a helluva dancer. Our sister got married in 1967 and the reception was held at a hall with a hardwood floor, he could feel the vibration of the music from the band and he danced all night! I was 7 yrs old…….he died in 1986 of a massive coronary.

I have an adult friend who is mostly deaf. I’ve know her since she was 18. She always used an “alarm” clock that would vibrate, and she placed it inside her pillow case. And she always managed to wake up on time. I’m sure she used that when she was younger, too. If she wasn’t up in time, though, I imagine her parents would give her a reasonably-friendly shake to make sure she was out of bed in time to start the day.

You could:
Flicker bedroom and hallway lights;
Get one of those alarm clocks that flashes;
Turn on lights;
Gently tap or shake them awake.
I had a habit of getting up early, however, so my parents never had to use any of these methods.
Salute!

闪烁卧室和走廊的灯;
买一个会闪光的闹钟;
开灯;

Macca
Tap them, get a ‘shake to wake’ pillow or bed, get a vibrating alarm clock

A Parent Thing
Use his or her nose. Make his favorite food. I hope this will help.

Jocelyn McClure
try tapping him or something or lightly shaking him until he wakes up

Emily King
Get a vibrating alarm clock or simply tap them.

Ranjit Mukherjee
By physically waking them up, by using light on their eyes or by splasing water on the face.

Riley Faye
Simply try tapping them on the shoulder. They can’t hear but they can feel.
