What I love about the FL is that she's so naturally cute. She's also got this quiet energy that's easy to vibe with. She's excellent at her profession but doesn't act like a know-it-all in other respects. What I mean to say is that she's smart, cute, and not problematic LOL. I know that sounds like a low bar, but sometimes Chinese dramas make very intelligent people annoying. Everyone on the show makes so much sense.

Definitely my favorite Chinese drama at the moment, and I actually don't mind that they didn't spend money on the costumes, but on the scxt and made everyone competent. I also was super impressed with the underground scenes that were shot with real torches and looked so convincingly dark. Hopefully the drama will hold on the quality of the story telling till the end.

I share your opinion, for a costume ignorant like me, the costumes are fine and I have seen worst as also better ones, but Chu Chu is grown in a not wealthy family so it's fine an the main lead is...how they say...modest....The story is likeable and not boring, I am half way through Ep.18) and I am eager to see how it evolves, how they will manage to protect their blossoming love. Where is the father, why has he been away so long, the chief enuch how will he end..and so on. And i like that the actors are natural...sometimes some have so alternated facial features due to plastic surgery that I have been loosing focus on the drama itself...to concentrated on funny chins or noses.

I kept waiting for the dumbness to drop, but every character acts like they should. Like at first, I thought the King was dumb and going to be dumb, then bam, he's actually very clever. She's also not lovesick character type. I believe her. And I actually like her, and there is actually a good relationship between her and the female lead character. And the Second male lead--I thought he'd turn out to be dumb, but he's actually clever and has his own motivations as well.

Every time I expected someone to be dumb, they have their own motivations, agency, and it's really, really refreshing, honestly, to have all of the characters pushing and pulling the plot in different directions. If this drama had no romance, I'd still be super satisfied. BTW, the characters still have personal flaws to overcome, so it's not like a bunch of Mary Sues and Gary Stus, and it's not one character with all the brilliance and talents, but the flaws are also not in the drama. They are there, but there is no big explanation or grandstanding, the plot works to let you figure it all out and piece it together. So, in turn you don't feel dumb for watching it.

10 episodes in and I find FL constantly out of characters. She is only smart when examining bodies. She is so dumb outside of that. What another disappointment.

I think she’s like those super intelligent people who are book smart but has little street smart. Which is in keeping with her character. She’s a child of a coroner so she most likely doesn’t have much interaction with other folks since ordinary folks avoid coroners thinking it’s bad luck. Her only friend seems to be the Witch doctor who regaled her with stories about crimes and the Handsome Judge. So, in keeping with her character, she’s super smart when it comes to her specialty but clueless about social etiquette or other street smart situations.

I love detective series and in the past year I've watched Ancient Detective, Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Maiden Holmes, and now I'm up to ep 6 of The Imperial Coroner and so far this is by far superior to all of the above. I actually like that they do not spend too much time on the romance/coupling. The plot is just so good. I am entranced! The plot has a wonderful pace and I do not have any time to make my own predictions or hypotheses as I watch the show unfold because I'm so absorbed and enjoying the twists and turns and marvelling at every characters' intelligence and peculiarities. I really hope this show has a strong ending. There have been too many shows that have fallen flat at the finish line that I've developed trust issues!

I regretted starting to watch it when you recommended it during your weekly video. I finished 12eps in a day and now I have to wait for the new episodes! It's gonna be such a torture. Agree the out of sync dubbing is a tad frustrating but I can look past that. From the fact that I barely skipped any sequences means the narration is good enough. Finally we have people with logic in ancient dramaland!

I watched the trailer randomly (mainly because of the drama title) and hooked immediately! I love how the FL is not a stupid clumsy one also the detective story is fast pacing and makes sense. Let's make a circle prayer wishing 2/3 parts will be as good as the released episodes

Probably because high budget ones have a lot of sponsorship backing, which means they have to advertise the companies within their shows which can take up the allocated storyboard and filming resources etc. (other than the reason being that they just want to keep as much money as possible and doing as little work as possible).

Probably because high budget ones have a lot of sponsorship backing, which means they have to advertise the companies within their shows which can take up the allocated storyboard and filming resources etc. (other than the reason being that they just want to keep as much money as possible and doing as little work as possible).
