American Grey Squirrels have practically wiped out the native Red Squirrel population, there are only a few places left where Red Squirrels still live (eg Isle of Wight, Scottish Highlands, Anglesey etc)

Although red squirrels are still quite common here I fear they will get wiped out too someday and I feel thankful everytime I spot one!

Same in Ireland. Grey squirrels were brought in as a wedding gift sometime, escaped, and are now the dominent species of squirrel in most areas of Ireland. They need more food than the red squirrels.

Also they carry Squirrelpox which doesn't kill grey Squirrels but does kill red

Its happening here too. But much slower, since we have so many Islands.

American...have practically wiped out the native Red...population
One can't make that up

dammit, not again

In Italy all the grey squirrel are descended from like ten squirrels that were freed In a park by the United States's ambassador in Piedmont in a ceremony for friendship or similar.

Canada Goose is what comes to mind. Some asshole brought them to the Nordics at some point and now I’m afraid I get mugged by a flock of them as I walk through any park in my city.

There is a football field near my sister’s house, and I remember about 8-10 years ago when the first pair of them started chilling on it. Never seen them in my city before that. The next summer there was 6 or them, the summer after that 20, and now I can barely even see the pitch anymore, it’s just a sea of geese.

Seeing Canada Goose harassing people in Central Park makes for a funny YouTube video but I'm very sad people in Europe have to go through this too now. I suspect nothing can be done to control them anymore?

You don't have them in Germany? They're everywhere in the Netherlands.

I live in a medium size city and we have a pair (+ ducklings) of them at a tiny lake here too, but they are chilled af. Here it's more the Egyptian goose to watch out for.

They have invaded some areas of France as well. It has not been good for our other river birds. It is a shame and I wish they were not there but I have to admit that the local colony is absolutely adorable and I love watching their juveniles.

clebekki
A couple others come to mind, the North American beaver and American mink.

The beaver one is more understandable, and not a threat per se. Finns hunted the European beaver population to extinction here in the 1800s, and in the 20th century wanted to reintroduce them. They released a few couples of both Canadian beavers and European ones, but only the NA beavers survived and thrived. They are a threat to Euro beaver populations in neighbouring countries, though, since if they spread there they'd probably quickly wipe out the native species.

The minks are more problematic, because unlike beavers, the ecosystem here isn't prepared for such a predator. It's a threat to local water birds and if anyone remembers the Covid case in Denmark, possibly to humans too.

There are many more, like insects, amphibians, fish, etc. but larger mammals and birds usually get most of the attention.

Shoot on site.they taste great ;-)
Mink taste like Fox. So only worth eating if you are near starving. The last time anyone ate foxes and made recipes for the Meat was during ww2

Yes, Nutrias. They are a nuisance and ecologically destructive. They increase erosion of the river Banks and embankments, make extensive damage to crops, and can be dangerous. People feed them as they are cute (what is quite about a musty ass invasive giant wet water rat is beyond me). Muskrats are also not native, but have been here for so long they managed to kind of adapt into the environment and are not particularly annoying. There are several invasive fishes, problematic for a variety of reasons, from preadtion of native fish, diseqse carrying, hybridisation, competition etc....

We have Nutrias here too, and a family has recently settled our local creek which has become kind of a attraction. Not sure if they're very destructive here since nothing but ducks lives in this creek, but I've heard about their destructive potential.

You get those in London too. They're usually bright green.

Folk have already mentioned grey squirrels, which affects Scotland too, but I think the wallabies of Loch Lomond are a unique phenomenon.
The previous owner of Inchconachan had kept some wallabies as exotic pets, but they're now semi-feral and have the run of the island. Occasional rumours surface of them swimming across to the shore pop up, but remain unconfirmed.

cutest infestation ever.

Cormorans, but I don't know if they're native or not. Their population has risen like mad. There are also Asian Ladybugs who mostly replaced the native ladybugs. Wolves are established again and formed actual packs after being extinct or solitary for 100 years, which I find very cool.

People here in rural northwest Germany are getting absolutely furious. There have been reports of wolf killings again after being extinct (reports as in two sheeps killed in one year) and now already you can find protest signs like "Weidetierhaltung und Wolf? Unvereinbar!" on every second field.

There's a Verein Schweiz zum Schutz der ländlichen Lebensräume vor Grossraubtieren VSLvGRT that would like to have nothing bigger than a fox in our country. It's statutes are explicitly against wolf bear, lynx, and golden jackal. Maniacs, I say.

White-tailed deer. They were brought here in the 1930s by Finnish-Americans from Minnesota. The population has grown to over 100 000 since then, mostly concentrated to the south-western part of the country. They damage crops, they destroy gardens, they bring ticks, and they cause traffic accidents. They also compete with moose and native deer species for habitat. The meat is pretty good though.

Worth mentioning that this 100k population comes from just 5 individuals.

Yeah, that's quite astonishing. And strangely enough they aren't even showing signs of inbreeding.

American red crayfish was introduced for breeding and fishing in a couple of places and it has ended up taking over everywhere and endangering the local species.

American minks were freed from several fur farms by "ecologist" groups in North Western Spain and became a problem endangering the local mink population and some bird colonies.

In Spain Ebro river is full of catfish from central Europe, and they grow up to 2 metres long.
Asian hornets and tiger mosquito are a problem in some areas.
Racoons, there were only 2 females in 2003, now they are hundreds.
And many more...

Raccoon dogs are invasive, 10 years ago we had over 300 in northern Sweden, now we only have about 20. Which is good despite them being adorable.

A big invasive species in Europe is the Japanese oyster. Scandinavian waters are almost the only one still retaining the European oyster.

American signal crayfish carrying the crayfish plague have mostly wiped out the native crayfish. But they are perfectly edible and we continue to feast on those just as well as the native ones at the late summer crayfish festivities.

Major ones include Red King Crab and Humpback Salmon, species native to the Pacific that were introduced into the waters off the Kola peninsula in the 50s and 60s and have since migrated westwards. The crab has commercial value and so is allowed to exist in designated areas. Everyhwere else they are supposed to be extirpated. The salmon is an unwanted species, but difficult to get rid of.

Musk oxen were deliberately introduced several times, but died out naturally or were hunted to extinction. One group descended from animals brought to Dovre in 1947 is still around, but they are weakened by inbreeding.
