"Intellectuals" tend to be short-sighted. They tend to get hooked on something that should sound good. They whitewash their theories with "reason" and "science" and close off any divergent thinking in others. They will defend the ideal in their mind at all costs, or they will be hurt by the fact that they came up with it and could not achieve it!
An "intellectual" is usually someone who has failed in life training (and turned to nothingness of knowledge) and has failed in almost all normal human interactions. But they tend to view their own failures as failures of the society around them. So they want to change society instead of themselves. So they will continue to destroy the society, let the society is full of people like themselves, in order to reach a new society. Intellectuals are never the ones who succeed, but the ones who fail, the ones who are rejected by the majority of normal people.

Most scientists (almost all) think of themselves as "avant-garde guardians" or "world-changers" or "advanced people." Almost all scientists will try to provide evidence that society is wrong and they have discovered a new theory. Smarter people prepare for a series of "intellectual" contests, while stupid people prepare to listen to the word of god. Still don't believe me? Look at ww1 and WW2. Without the hard work of scientists, those wars would not have opened the gates of hell and spread death throughout the world.
Back to the original question.... All of these are reasons for the existence of anti-intellectualism in society. Only because in the last century intellectuals have caused untold suffering to the entire human race!! Intellectuals, not to be trusted.

Humans are constantly being taught to distrust their biped companions and put all faith in their mobile phones, their new best friends. You can do everything you want with one app at a time. You can buy your car even if you're not going anywhere. You can do your banking, go online, buy a sexual partner, run background checks on them, spy on your kids, and buy everything from cars to cornbread to your favorite dildo at the touch of a button.
Anti-intellectualism is what it is now. Once upon a time, humans were taught to envy wisdom and strive to cultivate their gifts and wisdom. But it's no longer necessary, or even desirable. In 2020, you can go back to bed, turn on your phone, and you don't have to think about anything, just replay games and videos, gossip and chat over and over until you fall asleep. Some of us build a complex set of fantasies to live our lives and avoid dealing with problems. In reality, the usual avoidance of a problem often leads to a bigger problem than the problem itself. Some of the fantasies we construct are so far removed from all real facts that they almost completely contradict reality.
