He was the first person that showed me cooking food can be enjoyable and not just something needed.

After watching some of his youtube shows my diet and cooking skills have improved significantly.

He's an entertaining personality, that hates people who claim to be chefs but are horrible at their jobs, but on the same side on shows like Master Chef Jr. he's a chill dude, who's just like... "Oh no no no, you burned it a little bit, no worries just add a bit of butter and it'll even out."

Then you have him on shows like Master Chef, "Oh you fucking wanker, you burned it and claim to be a chef, get over yourself you fucking loon and do your damn job"

After seeing his blowouts on his other shows, I was scared for the kids the first time I saw Master Chef Jr. But he was incredibly warm, gentle, and relaxed around the kids, which is exactly how you want to be around young people who are engaging with their passion (and probably nervous about it).

Hence the "Oh dear oh gorgeous/you fucking donkey!" meme

Gordon Ramsay loves kids actually. He's always happy and lovely to the kids. On regular Master Chef he's more tame than Joe is. Joe is just a critical jerk in regular Master Chef.

UK cooking competition shows are quite polite compared to ours, from what I've seen.

I assumed it had more to do with the american chefs just being way more arrogant in his presence provoking a much more hostile reaction

His recipes also aren't overly complicated, unlike a lot of chiefs. He uses ingredients that are readily avaliable and I appreciate that cause it shows me what I can make with simple ingredients. I'd imagine a lot of it is because he grew up dirt poor.

You’ll find that to be true for a lot of the other celebrity chefs as well that have a heavier background in commercial cooking and menu planning. They’ll tend to use a combination of as few ingredients as possible and technique to get the job done.

It’s the “TV only” kind of homechef ones that bother me. They’ll put 15 things into a dish that really needs only 5 because they’re not as concerned with time, streamlined process, and will use extra ingredients to mask fuckups in technique. That unnecessarily complicates dishes, increasing cost and time investment, and why a lot of people say “cooking is hard and expensive” after trying some of those cookbooks or recipes listed from Food Network personalities.

Homie's still looking for that lamb sauce.

He seems like a genuinely good guy from what I've heard about him. I think his insults are funny, but mostly just an act

It is these days but it did not used to be. He became famous in the UK for being crazy in a documentary. Dude just comes from a school of cooking that teaches chefs to scream until their workers quit or they have a stroke.

Well tbh I think his insults are serious. My Food and Nutrition teacher behaved like Gordon Ramesy did. I think it's got to do with stress and safety because you can't serve something raw.

He's fun to watch but I also think the glorification of verbally abusive chefs is pretty cringey, and contributes to the pervasive problem of workplace harassment in the foodservice industry. A lot of chefs and restaurant owners think they're hot shit and become absolute megalomaniacs, and decades of these kinds of stunts from famous chefs just reinforces their belief that it's okay to treat their employees that way.

I hope he finds his lamb sauce.

Genius-Imbecile
I like him. As a chef I respect his success. I dislike the over the top caricature on Hell's Kitchen.

CupBeEmpty
I think he is fine. My sister dates a chef and he doesn't like the "Angry Chef" persona they put on Ramsay because that stereotype annoys him.
That said if you watch some of the shows where he works with kids or is more educational and supportive he is awesome.

DauntlessVerbosity
He put peas in carbonara and I will never forgive him for it.
He also made a grilled cheese sandwich where the cheese wasn't melted on the inside...

Half the time he is super out there and outspoken. I'm pretty sure that is just his tv persona though. If you watch some other programming of his, like visiting other countries or trying cooking from small restaraunts, he seems like a genuinely nice guy.

nina_ninis
He’s an idiot sandwich.

Anyone who doesn't like him needs to take 2 slices on bread and put them on your ears.

WhichSpirit
Not a fan. I know people use Masterchef Jr as evidence he's actually nice but that doesn't negate the fact that no human being deserves to be treated the way he treats people in his other shows. I've worked in a restaurant kitchen and while the executive chef did shout about customers he never abused his staff the way Gordon Ramsey verbally abuses those around him.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in London is the only disappointing 3 star Michelin restaurant I’ve been too.

He seems like a toxic blowhard that is best avoided. People who have to raise their voice to make a point have zero credibility in my opinion.
