My dad is an orthopedic surgeon who has a small setup in India. He makes around Rs. 10000 per day through opd, 4000 per day from plaster casts and 100,000 a week through surgeries.
He charges very less as compared to other orthopedic surgeons, but the amount of patients he manages to see well compensates for the less charge.
He works 25 days a week , so he makes 25*14000 +400000. The total income per month is around Rs 750,000.
That is by consulting 60 patients per day through opd and around 3 major and 2–3 minor surgeries a week.
Needless to say he works 12 hrs a day or more.

REMEMBER DOCTORS ALWAYS EARN IN LATER STAGES OF LIFE .
U can also open ur individual setup just as pediatric clinic or as a general physician .
This could take time to establish , once explored , u earn like a pro .
For ex - If u charges Mere 200 fees as ur consultancy , and 100 patients are ur daily output , ur one day earning is 20000 .
If u are specialist or a well renowned surgeon , u earn like , so can never think , if u clinic establishes
U may charge from 1k-5k per appointment , make a lot of money by doing part time in ur individual clinic and also working in reputed hospital .
But as a gud doctor , u should first think about the patient and not the money , thats what this profession demands .
U deserve this respect , this fame , this much earning , as u have sacrificed more than 10 year in books and mastering it .
Peoples keep asking why doctors demand such a huge money for a single minute checkup , but reality is that single minute checkup needs 10 year to perfectely perform and analyses it .
Salutes to all doctor around , u deserve everything .

Zach Peterson, come from a family of doctors

It’s pretty common knowledge that doctors make more money than pretty much everyone except maybe CEOs of giant companies, lucky entrepreneurs, famous musicians, athletes, and perhaps an evil investment banker.
But does this really hold true?—?that doctors make more than pretty much everyone else?—?all else being equal?
As you’ll find, the answer is an emphatic no. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t become a doctor?—?just that you should never, ever do it for the money.
Medscape published a physician compensation report in 2018 outlining salaries of doctors across different specialties, ranging from $199,000 to $501,000.
Yes, doctors pretty much all earn in the top few percent of income earners. At face value, this looks great. Become a doctor, and start making a couple hundred thousand every year.

But the real story is a bit more dismal.
The reality of what it takes to become a doctor
First, you have to get near-perfect grades in college, take all of the required science and math classes, and get an amazing score on the MCAT. That’s just getting in to the very first step of becoming a doctor.
Then you have 4 years of medical school, what some doctors describe as living hell. For these 8 years so far, you’ve been accumulating debt. Finally, you’ll choose a specialty and go to a residency program for between 3–7 years where you’ll work around 50–90+ hours a week. At least you get paid, but nowhere near what someone with as much education as you deserves. As a resident, you’ll be paid around $55,000 a year.
After you’re board-certified and get a job, you’ll finally be making money: around $150,000-$500,000. But there are a couple of catches: 1) in general you’ll be working anywhere from 50–80 hours a week 2) you’ll have lost around 10 working years and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of income that if invested would be worth tens of millions 3) you’ll be in a couple hundred thousand dollars in debt. Not to mention that most doctors are terrible with money and all your doctor friends will be starting to buy big houses and fancy cars, and unless you decide to be the weird outsider, you’ll start doing and accumulating even more debt.

So that’s what it takes to become a doctor?—?and why you probably shouldn’t do it because it pays well.
Now let’s ask two questions: are doctors
Do they make money because they’re a doctor…or because they’re smart?
Doctors make money?—?but is it because they chose to become doctors or because they were smart? Would doctors who put just as much effort and time in another field really end up with a lower salary?
It’s analogous to the question of whether Harvard makes people smart or Harvard people are smart because Harvard only lets in the smartest people.
What would happen if someone got accepted to medical school, decided to not enroll, chose another career path, and dedicated just as much time, energy, and effort to it as someone going through pre-med, medical school, residency, and actually practicing as a doctor?

I would argue that doctors make a good amount of money because they’re smart, not because they’re doctors. If they used their intelligence and hard work and applied it equally to another field (especially another field where you’re not competing with a bunch of smart, driven medical students), you would have good reason to believe that not only would they make more than an average doctor?—?they might have a much nicer lifestyle because they used their talent, skill, and ability and applied it to a less competitive career.
Do they make money because they’re a doctor…or because they put in almost a decade of serious study to get really good at something rare and valuable?
If becoming a doctor took just as much time as earning your undergraduate degree, doctors would be paid a fraction of their current salaries. The reason they have high average salaries is because of supply and demand. The rigorous process of becoming a doctor weeds out most people, leading to low supply and obvious high demand (people will always need medical care).
So is it just that doctors make a lot of money or is the reason they earn a lot of money a bit more nuanced?
I would make a case that if you contrasted two people: John and Fred, here’s what might happen.

John is smart and wants to make money doing something that has a positive impact on the world. He gets good grades and checks all of the other boxes. He gets into medical school, suffers through it, and chooses an internal medicine specialty. Twelve years later, he’s out of residency. A few years later, he’s established, has a solid job, and he’s making $223,000 as an internal medicine doctor. He works 50 hours a week and has $200,000 in debt from medical school.
Fred in a lot of ways in very similar to John. He’s smart, wants to make a lot of money, and have an impact on the world at the same time. He majors in Business and takes a lot of computer science courses on the side. He gets a job at a startup doing businessy stuff. He finds he has a knack for strategy.
After 2 or so years working, he goes to a top MBA program and lands a job with one of the Big 3 consultancies. He works really hard at his craft for 3 years, learning a lot, and earning a couple of hundred thousand a year while he’s at it.
Eventually, he quits his consulting job and gets a job as a director of strategy (not uncommon for ex-Big 3 consultants). He gets really good at his craft and specializes in non-profit startup strategy. By this time, he’s 7 years into his career.

He has expertise and connections and quits his job to start a consultancy where he’s focused on nonprofit startup strategy. He works really intensely at becoming an expert in his small niche for a few years. By that time, because he’s established in his field, he’s able to work on projects he’s interested in when he wants and make plenty of money on his own schedule, while working on helping impactful startups in the nonprofit education and medical research space grow and get more funding.
At this point, he’s in his mid thirties, earning as much as John doing something he cares about. He has tons of freedom and autonomy because he runs his own consultancy. He has impact because he’s helping companies that are making a real difference grow and increase their impact. He has creativity because he’s solving interesting, challenging, unique problems and devising original strategies for dozens of startups and large companies alike. He has plenty of recognition and respect because he’s one of the top consultants in his field?—?nonprofit education and healthcare innovation.
According to the career satisfaction research, Freedom and Autonomy + Impact + Creativity + Recognition and Respect = Loving Your Job
And Fred has all four.

John?—?he definitely has impact. He’s directly caring for and improving his patient’s lives.
He has a degree of creativity. Every patient is unique. But it’s definitely not as creative as say a writer or a consultant.
He doesn’t really have much autonomy at all (he works when his boss tells him too). But he does have rare and valuable skills so he’s not totally dependent on his boss?—?he can quit and find another job.
He has recognition from his patients and definitely has respect from society in general (he’s a doctor!) but he’s not at the top of his niche or anything?—?he’s just another cog in a machine run by businesspeople.
Again, I argue that if you dedicated just as much work as doctors do to their career, you would end up in an even better place than most doctors?—?both in terms of your lifestyle as well as money.

John
Age 22?—?Graduated from a top undergrad school, $100,000 in debt.
26?—?Graduated from medical school, $200,000 more in debt.
30?—?Graduated from internal medicine residency program.
32?—?Not a junior doctor anymore, finally established, making $250,000 a year.
36?—?After 4 years of aggressive paying off debt, pays off all debt

Fred
Age 22?—?Graduated from a top undergrad school, $100,000 in debt.
24?—?Two years of experience in startups, $50,000 a year
26?—?Earns an MBA from a top school, no debt (employer paid)
28–2 years of experience in a Big 3 consultancy, $150-200,000 a year
32–4 years of experience in healthcare and edtech strategy management, $200,000 a year
36?—?Established healthcare innovation and edtech strategy consultant working either for a boutique consultancy or his own practice, $250,000 a year

24两年创业经验,每年5万美元;
26从顶级学校获得MBA学位,无债务(雇主支付);
28岁在三大咨询公司工作2年,每年15到20万美元;
32岁具备4年的医疗保健和教育科技战略管理经验,每年20万美元;

Let’s consider another example: Olivia. She’s a data scientist. Take a look at her career path:
Age 22?—?Graduated from undergrad
Age 24?—?Earned a masters in statistics/related field
Age 25?—?Working as a data scientist, $130,000 a year
Age 27?—?Senior data scientist, $150,000 a year
Age 30?—?Data science manager, $250,000 a year
Age 35?—?Subject-matter expert on specific, in-demand area of data science, working as a consultant, $300,000 a year
Considering the time and money investment of medical school and residency, are doctors really that far ahead?
No.
But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be a doctor. We absolutely need great doctors.
But we need to stop viewing medicine as a great career if you want to make a lot of money.
