@Chlo912 Actually, there is a reason why he won't just rewind time in that branch (their timeline). Because as otto mentioned, a vessel couldn't gather a mind (soul) that already gone. So, even if he rewind the time, the 'world' wouldn't allow that. For reference, zhunge kongmimg story.
So instead, he create an 'empty' branch then comeback to the time where kallen soul still in her body and then save her. With this method, he rerouted the flowing of time to the new branch thus creating a new timeline. Pretty much otto yeeted kallen to new timeline.
This also explain why the sky turned from night to day. Cuz, time was 'followed' otto.

From the moment he gave his message to Theresa, and then, when he finally reached Kallen and deliver his final words. God freaking heck do I cried. Seriously crying. We might not ever could condone his crimes, but the least that we could do is to wish him peace. He suffered hundreds of years just for the one that he loved. He dedicate his life, willing to play as the bad guy just to change history, to undo his wrong, to save her that he cannot save.
Otto is human just like all of us. He was a fragile, wounded soul, tormented and twisted into a wretched person that he was... But deep inside, he's still human. He cared, he loved, and he's willing to sacrifice himself for others. He's even willing to sacrifice the whole world, just for she that saved his childhood.
Rest in peace, Otto Apocalypse. Best written villain, and one of the best character in the whole series. The one that we hate the most, and the one that we respect the most.

I swore that I would never forgive Otto, but I changed my mind. Seeing his determination really changed my view on him. From the moment he gave his message to Theresa, and then, when he finally reached Kallen and deliver his final words. God freaking heck do I cried. Seriously crying. No other Honkai cinematic ever did this to me, and why it must be you, Otto, the one that we all despised so much? I can't believe it, but you did it, you absolute mad man!

I keep forgetting that this a game, and not an anime or movie. This much dedication goes into a game, that too one that was originally a mobile game.
Otto is a very well written villain. He represents human desires that are too selfish to be suppressed very well. There is a lot of realism in his character. I only admire his dedication towards Kallen, who he believed was generically wronged by the world and deserved and ending where she could continue to do what she enjoyed. But then there's all the other very messed up shit he's done, he might have a strong will but his obsession with delivering "justice" satisfied him in the end, but the process arguably did more harm than good for the others around him. Eitherway, it is a fitting end for his character.

Let's be honest, it takes some really masterful writing to both make you hate a character so much and still make you feel and understand why he does what he does.

Looking at all the comments with the infamous Harvey's quote from The Dark Knight "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" is something I wholeheartedly agree, even when I first saw this that quote immediately come to mind. But later pondering on it and rewatching this again and listening to the song's video, I believe this quote is quite far from what the video is representing
See Otto's "love" was more of admirations instead of romantically; admiring Kallen's heroism and had always wanted to support her, being the Robin to her Batman. But when the World (Old Schicksal, Kaslana Household, etc.) didn't see her as the hero, Otto was dumbfounded. The first person who helped that sickly, weak boy 500+ years was treated as a criminal, a nuisance, another thing to be used and then discarded; His hero being treated as a villain. He tried his best to save her, but even she refused, as one of the Kaslana's annoying but admirably trait; their self-sacrifice and selflessness. But like Mei, Otto doesn't want her to carry everything by herself and desperately wished to share the burden, but again rejected. When she was killed by what could technically be by his own hands, I think that's when he snapped: waging war against his sister and nephew, experimenting and cloning, making deals that only benefits himself, and getting alot of people killed, others and even his own. All those were preparations, for the last 500 years, to revive the hero who shouldn't have died.
Like if Robin becoming the Joker for Batman to be relevant, like Snape needing to kill Dumbledore to save him but will looked like a betrayer, and even like Mei who have to become a Herrscher to save her dear friend....
"If you want to become the Hero , I will gladly be the Villain for you. But if the World treat you as Evil, I'll fight both them, God, and the Devil to prove them wrong."
