Smaller toilet stall gaps

I read/heard somewhere that it’s a safety thing, but I’m sure there has to be another way to keep someone safe other than building stalls with huge gaps, which kinda seems counterproductive to me haha

It started as an anti drug thing and now is more of a cheapo thing

I'm sixty years old growing up in the U.S. and that's how public bathrooms have been constructed all my life. Let's just say, I've seen some ladies' rooms. That's normal.

In most of the world there’s no gap because you have to pay. In the US, supposedly it’s to see if there’s anyone in the stall when the alarm goes off or at closing.

In public restrooms it is significantly cheaper to purchase those dividers and install them than to build full enclosed rooms with doors. Even the nicer stalls since they are less common tend to cost 25% more at a minimum and are less forgiving in shoddy installation. So most contractors will order the cheap crap unless spec’d out better, which builders rarely do as that means the bid comes in higher as well. And it just is t worth the extra money or effort at most of the locations where it is an issue(we aren’t talking upscale offices but gas stations). The difference between product is sometimes subtle but usually not even close.

I've always wondered about the European complaints about toilet stall gaps.
What is the European obsession with the gaps in American toilet stalls if there isn't an epidemic of weirdos that are trying to peep through them?

I want the Dutch approach to cycling and road design. Spent Covid watching Not Just Bikes on YouTube and getting cranky about how garbage bike lanes are in the us

American street and parking lot designers only think of the automobile. No one considers what happens when people park and try to walk into the store.

100%. Especially as electric bikes get more popular this could really reduce car traffic and make cities cleaner/quieter.

Yes. And no one fire back with “We’ve got Amtrak!” I am four hours in all directions from the nearest station. That’s not an accessible system.

而且不会有人用“我们有Amtrak(美铁)!”

It just doesn’t make sense with the sheer scale of the US tho

All that investment just to take longer than an airplane. Can’t imagine tickets would be much cheaper either

What doesn't make sense is paying for high speed rail and never getting it, like in Wisconsin. We just sold our high speed rail cars for a massive loss after paying tens of millions for infrastructure we never got because of conservatives.

China is same size and somehow they do it. I know their GDP Is way higher and education much better but we could try?

Safe reliable public transport. I hate driving aside from highways and country roads.
I hate worrying about having more than 2 beers when I go out.
And I fucking despise that my city plows the roads in winter but just lets 2.5 feet of snow sit on the sidewalk.

Densely built cities with good transportation besides New York. I went to Paris and London when I was younger and it amazed me to live out in the suburbs and be able to walk a mile down the road to get on a train that could take me miles throughout the city.

Walkable cities are so foreign to me as someone who grew up in one where driving is an ABSOLUTE necessity and most Americans can say the same. The ease of travel when I was in Europe was amazing and I hope more cities start building better transit and pedestrian areas

As a German I totally expectes German weapon manufacturers to turn up here.
In hotel where I worked we had regular from Texas who was a big time gun collector and was obssed wit German small arms. I learned that we Germans built the best weapons and Italians are the best engraver. He showed me a picture of his gun room and you could probably buy one or two houses when you sell his weapons.

I can’t remember which country does this but is there prisons are like rehab centers which that’s what we need here. There was so many people that go to jail just because they’ve been using drugs sticking them in jail isn’t going to do anything. They are going to get out and do the exact same fucking thing over again

Duck on the menu in lots of restaurants.

My father runs a Chinese restaurant. We serve duck on the menu. Only people that eat duck are East Asians and American country guys. No in between.
I was shocked when I saw these two dudes drive in a jacked pickup, walked in with real tree camo on their rubber boots and cowboy boots sit down and order a Chinese style roast duck.

Peking duck is amazing when done right. German-Americans (like me) are also definitely duck and goose eaters. Many German restaurants serve duck, but when I was in Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic, and France etc. duck was on the menu at the majority of nice restaurants’ menus.

A lot of Americans eat duck, but they tend to hunt and prepare it themselves instead of ordering it from a restaurant.
