My wife uses TVS streak and she recently told me that horn, indicator and button start are not functioning. The first doubt I had was about battery problem.
I took the bike to an authorized TVS service center where I had serviced the bike previously. The supervisor was polite and helpful and I had a good experience with them.
I told him that, horn, indicator and button start are not functioning. He just tried to start and it did not, and he immediately told me that battery is out of life.
I asked him how did he figure this out. He mentioned that these kind of batteries have been stopped manufacturing almost four years ago and they do not last more than 4 years.
His answer triggered doubt in my mind. Despite of this, I agreed to replace it with new one. Later we discussed about Wet and Dry batteries and Dry one was costing Rs. 1400
He asked his mechanic to replace the malfunctioning old battery with new Dry one. The mechanic brought a new battery from inside and fitted it. Tried to start the bike but it didn’t.
He then removed a ‘fuse’ from the assembly and replaced it with new one. After this the bike was started successfully.
Out of curiosity I asked him, how did he come to know that battery is out of life. Without a pause he said, ”We can conclude just by looking at the date on the battery”. I asked, “So please tell me where is the date on the battery”.
For almost 2 mins he tried to find out the date on the battery. Also asked the supervisor but he also did not find.

I came to know that the reason for all the problems was the ‘fuse’ and not the battery.
I asked supervisor if he can check if battery is working or not. He brought the multi meter (the device to check voltage, current resistance etc.) and checked. It showed 12 Volts which is the correct output of the battery. This proved that battery was functioning.
He then asked his mechanic to replace the new one with old one and try starting the bike.
He did and tried to button start it, and what!!!! Bike started (using old battery)!!!
The mechanic then silently kept his new battery in the box and went inside.
The total cost of Fuse and some other work was just Rs. 200
Due to not leaving my bike with him and observing the work, I could save almost Rs.1200 and importantly ‘getting scammed’.
The dirty business tactic here was to make a customer buy a new thing to get more profit without considering actual problem.

Here’s a dirty tactic we faced in a restaurant in Agra,India.
My wife and I took a beautiful trip to Taj Mahal, we asked our auto driver to take us to some place decent for food.
He asked our preference(veg/non-veg) and took us to a average looking shabby restaurant(plastic tables/chairs, open kitchen, old fans.. you get the picture).
So then this smiley faced waiter arrives, greeting us with a warm smile and asking us how the day went in the beautiful city. We were impressed by the way he showed care and proceeded to open the menu for ordering. Just at the point of opening the menu, he stopped us abruptly and asked if he could suggest us something that we might like and was famous from that restaurant. We agreed.
He proceeded with the following with a firm tone:
" I advise that you take 2 half plate(i.e half quantity) of chicken starters, 1 main course curry, and chapati as per your liking."
It sound good, so I told, “Yes please go ahead.” As I opened the menu to check the price for the items he suggested, he abruptly stopped me and proceeded to explain the order on a napkin with diagram of the plate! On what all he suggested, at this point I sensed something was wrong and told him to wait.

Now for the people that are not familiar with the restaurant food pricing in India, assume that an ideal meal suggested above will cost you a max INR 700(~11 USD) in a decent restaurant, however this particular restaurant was nowhere near to a decent one.
On seeing this I told him to cancel whatever he suggested and get us just the main course with 4 chapatis (Indian flat-bread). His face went from long to furious as he collected the menu with a sad/angry face and proceeded to go to the kitchen to place it.
The food we got after that was just average and we were just relieved by the fact that we escaped a dirty tactic to get ripped off.
So my suggestion to everyone here is to stay cautious whenever visiting common tourist places and not to trust anyone on something related to money unless you have verified everything from your end.
Stay Vigilant! Stay Safe! Keep Travelling!

A very prominent north based developer launched its project in Bangalore South. Apartments are advertised smartly using very aggressive pricing. apartments were launched sometime in 2012 at Rs 3300 per sq. feet. With a buildup area of 920 for 2 BHK (2 Bedroom Hall Kitchen). How much does the cost work out ? Simple - 3300 * 920 = Rs 30 lac plus change. For a national repute developer, you thought it’s a steal to get a 2-bedroom flat, that too in the major technology employment hub of Bangalore. The apartment showed fancy pictures of community club, swimming pool & what not. At 30 lacs plus registration, this is possibly as cheap as it gets !!
Or so the buyers thought !
Before you jump from seats, let me tell you that you haven’t missed any great opportunity here. The fun is yet to follow -

The sales team shows the overall costing as something like this -
The cost has now gone up to Rs 36 lacs. Let’s look at each of the charges now-
View charges: this is for a specific facing that your apartment carries. Now you ask other options that don’t have this……sorry, no luck. Every apartment has this charge actually. What view you wonder ? The windows will open somewhere. I can't stop looking what is outside.
Orientation charge: Not sure what that is. Call it innovation. It’s again some form of view charge.
Door facing charge: A charge based on where your front door opens - east, west, north or south. Give me the one that doesn’t have this charge, you ask. Again, sorry, every flat has to pay this. Can you get an apartment without a front door opening nowhere? Quite impossible I would think.
Floor rise charge: So, the higher you go, the more you pay. But why not club all into one preference charge? Plus, not my fault if only the higher floors are left to pick from.
Car park - Ahhh. You thought supreme court has banned open car park sales because in any case, that open space belongs to the buyers. Wrong. They are not “selling” the parking as the court has banned it. The builder is charging you the “right to use the car park”. Whatever the hell that means. Talk of rules, this is how they work here.
IIDC charges: This is internal infra development charge. Well the apartment was shown to include all the green parks & infra associated. Why do I pay extra for that? Do you also charge me for the grass outside ?
Hmmmm. You take time to absorb all this nuisance. I wouldn’t mind paying Rs 36 lac but why start with 30 lacs & then add all this ?

Ever thought of reading the booklet of agreement that you get to see “after” you pay the initial advance ? You should. See the typical clauses & costs:
Club membership: Well the pics showed the club & pool in the premises so that should be a part of the cost of the flat already. Reluctantly you accept Rs 75 K of club charges. However, you discover something else. It seems that you & other buyers “don’t own the club”. You pay for its construction first. Then you pay Rs 25 k for its membership for first 2 years. Then you pay another 7 K for first year fee & another 10 K security deposit. All this for a club that you don’t & will never own. And there’s more . The club is not even constructed as the Bangalore municipal corporation didn’t allow swimming pool. Effort are on but pls pay the money NOW. Oh- did you buy the apartment for the pool ? Tough luck buddy.
Cost of increase in area: It seems the builder was not aware what area was the apartment for. As it turns out, measurement was done post construction & guess what- it came out a bit more than initial 920 sq. feet. So, pay extra for that? can talk to the architect pls? this is an old trick that every builder deploys. remember the initial cost of 30 lacs !! The area will always increase in the end. Too bad you didn’t account for this. The same builder in one of its Gurgaon flats that were sold for 10 crores plus, demanded an additional Rs 3 crore due to increase in area calculations. Rs 3 crores more for error in calculations??

Electricity & water charges of Rs 2 lac: Surprised again? You bought the apartment obviously with electricity & water. That too at Rs 1.9 lac which is almost 7% of the original flat cost ?
Cost of electric sub-station: Pay Rs 1 lac for the electric substation to get power to the apartments? Well you already paid almost 2 lacs for “electricity & water”.Add that & you are at 3 lacs just to get electricity to your flat. That is 10% of basic cost??? It was somewhere in the clause 1.2 of the agreement, hidden carefully so you can’t read. Don’t expect the sales guy to tell you this.
State taxes on materials used: Pay another Rs 1.3 lac for some taxes on cement & steel that the builder paid to state govt. Don’t know about this ?? Well it’s there is another clause 1.15, again very carefully hidden.
I’m really beginning to feel very dumb here. But there is another sting in the tail.
Pay Rs 32,000 to the “lawyer of builder’s choice” who will facilitate the registration process. Rs 32 K just to get some paperwork for registration. Btw, the registration costs of 2.5 lac are additional. Plus, some Rs 5000 as incidental expenses for “photocopy” at the registrar’s office TO BE PAID IN CASH !! I understand this. The govt employee will not sign without cash. You know what? Of all the above charges, this is the ones I clearly has accounted for. For the rest of it, well You started to buy a flat for Rs 30 lac but end up at Rs 46 lac. Can you cite another business practice like this one where end product is 55% more than the stated cost ?

Well, I was scrolling through my Insta yesterday and found an interesting news about the Business tactics of JIO.
I would probably name this as the TELECOM GAME being played by JIO.
Now coming to the Business tactics of JIO, Airtel Officials said that Reliance Jio had reduced the ringing time for outgoing calls to other networks, from 45 to 20 seconds only, leading to a lot of customer inconvenience since the calls are cut off even before the customer receives.
Once a customer receives a missed call, he/she usually calls back the originating operator's network. By converting such outgoing calls to incoming calls, they get interconnect usage charge which is 6 paise per minute and artificial traffic.

I was shocked for a second after reading this because a month ago I have also read that, Within three years of starting its commercial operations, Reliance Jio has become the country's largest telecom operator with a subscriber base of 331.3 million, surpassing Vodafone Idea which on Friday reported a decline in its user base to 320 million by June 2019.
