Laziness, for the most part is a good thing. As long as it doesn't affect your health and wellbeing.
One of bill gates famous sayings:
I have seen this to be true in many situations. Lazy people hate inefficiencies, they dislike doing things which aren’t necessary. They will often try to change process to make things more efficient and quicker, so they don’t spend as much time or effort on something which isn’t required. And lets face it, most workplaces have so much inefficiency that is unnecessary, because of red tape or company procedures.
When I started in the workforce, I would run to and fro trying to get work done. I was a quick worker and dedicated, so was promoted very quickly in a larger business. But once I had workers that I managed, I still worked the same way by trying to do everything myself. My workers were slow, and they didn’t go outside of their job descxtion. So often I found myself at work at 3am and doing 20+ hours more per week, running around back and forwards trying to get everything done.
My boss at the time said to me “Work smarter not harder”, but I didn’t know what that even meant. Eventually this work style led to stress and depression, which made me leave that job.

Many years later I worked in an office as a office manager. I’m the first to admit that I discovered what being lazy really meant. Whilst other workers would run backward and forward, stressing themselves out, acting like every small situation was the end of the world.
I would sit in the same place most the day. I changed the filing system to make it more simple and thus more efficient. I change the office from a paper based office to a computerized one. Instead of spending a lot of labour measuring inventory, i used mathematical calculations which cut the time of counting inventory by about 80%. Even something small like that changed the time it took to get jobs out from 2 hours in the mornings to about 30 minutes. Small changes can make all the difference.
And whilst it may have looked like I was doing nothing, I was relaxing and spending as little effort as possible and still doing 3x more work than anyone else in the office. I ignored the turmoil and chaos that was going on around me, and focused on my work. When I left eventually, they had to hire three employee’s to replace me.
And yes other answer’s here tell of laziness in terms of affecting bad life choices. I talk about laziness as a conservation of energy and of effort. That way that calm and focused energy can be used, not to of run around like an idiot.

I am so lazy that I hate myself. I want nice things in life but I'm too lazy to work for them. I've been complaining all day and it's making my friends and family crazy. What should I do?
Is it ever okay to be lazy?
What am I supposed to do when I'm a 16-year-old with no goals or aspirations, no interests, no skills, and I'm too lazy to change any of this? I want to stop being lazy, but I'm too lazy to do so.

This is an interesting question. Toddlers and teenagers are advised to be industrious and not lazy . Older women and men are respected when people perceive that they have achieved material success by the dint of labor and hard work . Lazy people are often looked down upon.
However there is nothing wrong in being lazy . If you are not fueled by material ambitions , if you instead prefer a sedentary life , if you are comfortable with earning less and spending less there is nothing wrong in being lazy. After all its your life and nobody can dictate terms except you yourself.
But that being said , most people want to spend more . They want a huge bungalow,an awesome car , a hot spouse , a foreign holiday and above all respect . When you have such an attitude , being lazy is paradoxical.

There is “laziness” and there are health conditions that masquerade as “laziness.”
“Laziness” wouldn’t keep someone on a couch long enough to have their skin bond with the fabric. This is a person who can’t get up from weakness.
Laziness: Temporary and person still is active doing something they prefer doing - like playing video games vs taking out trash. Or leaves home for lunch out vs working in downsizing a cluttered house. You witness the person still being physically active in other ways - walking, standing, sitting, driving, up preparing a meal, etc. It’s just other priorities aren’t happening.
Medical condition - ongoing, sleep isn’t restorative, person needs physical help due to being exhausted longer term. If you see someone’s needs increasing, help or call someone to help. Don’t make fun of the person. It’s not about laziness. Fat or thin, the person can have similar exhaustion. It’s not about the extra weight.

In the old times, the Guru used to live with his disciples in an ashram. Guru was very scholar. One of his disciples was very lazy. His education was nearing completion, but he could not understand the value of time. Today's work was always postponed to tomorrow. The Guru thought that if the disciple did not explain the importance of time, then his life would be ruined.
One day the Guru gave a stone to the lazy disciple and said that you can make as much gold as you want, but you have only two days. This will improve your life. I am going to another village, I will return to the ashram after two days, then I will take this stone back from you. Anything you touch with this stone will become gold.
After giving the stone, Guruji left the ashram. The lazy disciple became very happy after getting the stone. He thought that he would make so much gold from this stone that he would not have to work all his life. The disciple thought that I have two days now, take a rest a day. I will make gold the next day. He fell asleep thinking this.
When he woke up after resting all day and all night, he thought that today he has to bring a lot of iron and he has to make gold, but before that I will eat food, then I will work. When he ate a full meal, he started feeling sleepy. Now he started thinking that sometime I sleep, the work of making gold is small, I will do it in the evening. He fell asleep. It was evening and he woke up. It was sunset. When he woke up he saw that his master had returned.
The Guru told the disciple that it is now night, two days have been completed, so now return that stone to me. While returning the stone, he realized his mistake. He understood that time is valuable, do not waste it with laziness.

Be lazy if you have earned enough for your livelihood and for that of your dependents.
Be lazy if you have carried out all your filial duties.
Be lazy if you have completed your parental duties.
Be lazy if you have done your part for the welfare of the society.
Be lazy if everyone on this earth is lazy too.

Allow yourself to be lazy (if you naturally are) and thrive in all the other areas of your life. You are usually lasy in one area, and it takes all your energy and time. You will find productive ways, ways that suit you better, to cover that particular area, and you will naturally focus on things you are genuinely interested in.

An alcoholic ex-prizefighter (Sam Upton) is broke, so he hustles at gas stations, offering to remove scratches from people’s cars in exchange for cash. Upton’s friend pulls in and starts pumping gas, at which time Upton notices a few scratches on his car. He tells his friend he’s got the tools to fix it, and that it’ll take only ten minutes to fix.
Less than ten minutes later, the scratches are hidden under a coat of blemished paint and wax. He doesn’t wash the car or buff out the scratches. Instead, he sprays a coat of paint, and with a few quick strokes, uses a hand towel to spread the wax over the paint. (FYI: this is no minor scratch—the scratches are about a foot long.)
But according to Upton, it’s good for a “street job.” (Excuses, excuses!)
Visibly perturbed, his friend tells him it’s a half-ass job and says, “There are two types of people in this world: the hedonist and the stoic. The hedonist . . . he’ll do whatever he can fuckin’ do to feel good. The stoic does what’s right, no matter how he feels.” That hedonist was Upton.
This statement resonated with me because laziness and hedonism go hand-in-hand like a knife and fork. Pleasure seeking and averse to pain, hedonists are the ones popping champagne, smoking a cigar, and in the interim, getting lap dances from “Zelda.” Hedonists juggle pleasure like a juggler juggles juggling balls. This mentality— laced by a need for instant gratification of all sorts—infests the hedonist.

How harmful is laziness? It isn’t only harmful, it’s toxic. Toxic because it could spiral out of control, causing you to lose your job, comfortable lifestyle, and savings, as well as ruining your relationships with family and friends. Your life shatters in front of you, driving you insane, spawning depression or anxiety. Drugs and alcohol, one of your few remaining pleasures, leap to the forefront of your mind as you try to escape this grim reality.
Laziness gives rise to problems; problems give rise to financial woes; financial woes give rise to drug abuse or crime. It’s a domino effect, with a terrible chain of events ensuing once the desire for pleasure gives way to laziness. That is, hedonism provides fertile ground for laziness, which, in turn, could result in detrimental consequences.
Here’s what I know: Those with a strong work ethic are thorough and dependable, willing to go the extra mile; lazy hedonists, on the other hand, are unwilling to do the mere basics. Ask them to sweep the kitchen floor, and a pile of crumbs remains under the sink cabinets. Ask them to take care of your dog, and they’ll leave “Cooper” out in the yard , playing with a chewed-up bone.
Trust the lazy hedonist to care for anything of sentimental value?
Not in a million years.

Also, those with a strong work ethic are perseverant; they finish what they start, even if that entails troves of paperwork, phone calls, and emails. The lazy hedonist, however, finds an excuse to ignore the calls and emails. Maybe an “out of the office” auto-reply to ignore emails, or better yet, a flippant denial of having received some of the paperwork. They watch the clock, and finally—feeling a sense of relief—bolt out and drive home and kick back on the sofa.
Laziness also stifles growth and hinders your potential. You can’t get a lazy person to do 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (the magic number to mastery of a skill); heck, you’d be hard-pressed to get them to do 1,000 hours. Kobe Bryant, for example, is the antithesis of lazy; he’d wake up before 4 a.m. and work out for at least 7 hours before practice even began. Yes, before practice began.
Or take Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who learned to play from his father— a successful musician himself— with intensity. Contrary to popular belief, Mozart didn’t coast on talent alone—he was a perfectionist that worked relentlessly from a young age.
Laziness and hedonism weren’t part of the equation to their success. Can you think of anyone that accomplished anything great by clock-watching, popping pills, or doing half-ass work? The bottom line is this: laziness gives rise to failure and frailty, while a strong work ethic gives rise to success and resilience.

If you feel lazy before an important task or deadline, it is a message that you are not tuned into your intuitions. So take a nap or do anything that will shift your emotions.
The laziness will go away.

Infact, the book of proverbs categorically speaks of three types of people:
1. Wise people: This group of people walk in the instructions of God. They do right things.
2. Foolish people. This group of people hate instructions. In others words, they think they are smart and don't need to be taught. They want to live their life their own way, crossing all the boundaries, only to regret later.
3. Lazy people: Being wise is good. Foolishness is bad. Foolishness will cost us. But what about Laziness?

“Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”
Laziness is expensive.
“If you are lazy to mend the holes in the roof today, you will surely suffer on the rainy day.”
You know, God has created things around us in a manner that creation constantly speaks to us Ants are a good example for a wise living; they aren't wise because they work hard but because they are wise, they work hard. They gather during the summer so that they can have enough to survive on during the winter.
“A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”
Laziness leads to procastinate, makes us busybody, idlers, fruitless, unproductive failures… poverty and scarcity is often rooted in laziness.
There is something about lazy man which is more deadly than the foolish man.

Active brain and active physic only can give good health. If one day I am lazy, I get head ache , no sleep and unhappy moods. The moment I start doing excise and keeping myself busy , I get back to good moods. Laziness never gives happiness and without happiness there can be no good health.

In the West, this attitude derives from something called the "Protestant work ethic." It goes back to a Puritan notion that labor is virtuous. It has produced one of the most productive, and also energy-consuming and polluting, societies in the world, with a high standard of living. But it means that they're also stressed and have high rates of heart disease, diabetes, and depression.
All the European colonizers of the New World were shocked that the Indians didn't work all the time. This was one reason they considered them to be inferior.
Eastern religions that value a more balanced life don't promote this. They don't encourage laziness per se, but they don't value work for work's sake.

I crave a slow life. A simple life.
I want to wake up and feel the passage of my breath. I want to scrunch up my blanket and feel the flex of my fingers as they slowly come out of a dream. I want to open my eyes and stay there for a bit, doing nothing.
I want to feel enough even when I don’t have Schedule knocking at my mind’s door, a whirled to-do list in its hand. Rather I’d gladly part ways with him. For you see, I want a life where simply BEING is the law. The new rule. The new cool.
I crave a life where the ocean greets me at my doorstep and the sand insists on sinking my toes into its warm, warm body.

Laziness is not equivalent to being carefree or leisurely. The former is a conscious attitude whereas laziness is more of a symptom than a disease. A lazy person is more often than not, someone who is running away from something that he doesn’t want but at the same time, doesn’t have enough courage to follow his heart and do what he actually wants.
