Biology was a subject that I would rather avoid altogether, yet Ivan could breeze through it without much of a glance, his call for service as a future medic always at the front.
Chemistry made my head hurt, and yet again, Sebastian found merit inside the world of chemical compounds and experiments, places where I could barely grasp such concepts.

Do not ever dread to always walk the extra mile. It’s way cooler than taking it easy.

Whenever you hear that there is a principle that is believed by most people as RIGHT, you can be sure that the principle is absolutely WRONG.
In other words,

Every human being has a talent for something.
In the same way, no human being has a talent for everything.
Let's take the case of Albert Einstein.

He would have perhaps been a failed sportsman who led a miserable life.

As a matter of fact, you can recognise your talent only when you are using it to beat hard work.

When you discover that in any particular area, you can produce results with much lesser effort as compared to others, you identify your talent in such an arena.
If you work too hard to succeed in a particular area, that is a sure indication that you lack talent in that area.
Hence, you have to keep experimenting with different things in life, till you find your talent.
Once you discover your talent, work hard to nourish your talent, instead of trying to beat a talent with your hard work.

Hard work is important. But it doesn’t beat talent. If you want to succeed in today’s world, you need to have both. And I can prove it to you.
Case I
Have you ever seen a person who can’t sing no matter how hard (s)he tries? Of course you have. That’s because they have no talent for singing. If they work hard, they could sing kinda okay but they’ll only ever be mediocre at best. That’s because they don’t have any innate capabilities required to sing. Some people are just tone-deaf or they just don’t have the vocal chords required to be able to sing, and no amount of hard work will fix that. It might work for some people, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
Case II
Now, let’s take an example of a person who has a talent for singing. This guy has always been able to sing well with no training whatsoever. He might lack the intricacies of singing, or the technicalities of mic handling and so forth, but he could overcome it by putting in some work. Not hard work, but just some amount of effort. We often call them god-gifted/extremely talented/effortless. This is what talent is. Talent can produce wonders without hard work.

Talent could be anything. It could be musical or artistic talent, or it could be a physical talent, or it could be a social talent or something else or anything in between. Talent is the reason why some people just get something and some people just don’t. Some abilities/inabilities that we’re born with never change. You could call it a hardwiring of a sort. It’s all about discovering your talent (your god-gift/your purpose/your wiring) and channeling it in the right direction.
It’s almost impossible to achieve excellence in something with brute-force hard work. It’s a lot easier to achieve the same when you have the talent for it. And it’s going to be insane if you somehow have both.
In fact, having the ability to work hard is a talent in itself. But you cannot develop talent by working hard.
So if someone tells me hard work always beats talent, I’m going to say they’re full o’ shit.

These were wordings of one of my teachers. This statement seemed weird when I first heard it, but with time I have found it to be true.
An average student has to struggle more to understand something than an exceptionally intelligent student. Once the concept is clear even an average student knows a topic as well as an intelligent student.
Such a teacher can understand the struggle of a weak student in studies. This teacher knows it's not easy to understand the topic and is so more helpful towards student, making them a good teacher.
This applies in every field. If someone is not talented but acquires it with hard work, they understand it's value more.
Hard work certainly beats talent as the talent acquired by hard work would keep the talented person grounded. Such a person won't boast of being talented. They would use their talent wisely.

I have read a lot of bullshit answers about hard work beating being talented and vice versa and provide examples to back up either answer.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
If you are talented, but never showboat your talents to the right people, you won't get anywhere.
If you work hard, but never show it to the right people, you won't get anywhere.
Plus, the factor, in the right place at the right moment, should not be underestimated. If Messi was born in the year 326, would he have had the success he had today?
Questions like the above are irrelevant. It boils down to you wanting to have success. And you can only achieve that by trying, regardless of talent. And if you have the drive, the passion, you might get that success. If you have talent, you might get that success a bit quicker but again, right time right place. And that is difficult to time accurately.
Ultimately it's all maths. You expand your chances by trying over and over again. You don't try you lose, regardless how hard you would have worked or how talented you were.
