The best book I ever read is or rather one of my favourite books of all time is :
The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck
As the title suggests, it is a self help book, well if you want to call it no one’s stopping you. but it’s no ordinary self help book, unlike most self help books, this doesn’t tell you to stay happy or avoid negativity. But Mark Manson through this book say’s: ‘Fuck Positivity’.
This book makes you realise that you're not special, the problems you are having right now are not new. Somebody before you and somebody after you, have had and will have the same problems. So stop feeling so special and Stop Giving A Fuck.

I will only give you a small example of what the book really is all about;
The book starts with Mark introducing Charles Bukowski. A wannabe writer but due to his life choices, a womaniser, a drug addict and a gambler. For the first fifty years of his life he remained like this, a drunk loser, but then an editor from a small publishing house took strange interest in the guy, he couldn't offer him much money or a lot of sales, but he wanted Bukowski to write. Bukowski wrote his first novel, Post Office, in a mere three week. In the dedication he wrote, ‘Dedicated to nobody’. Stories like Bukowski became the staple diet of motivational speakers all around the globe, ‘he didn’t give up’, ‘See’ were the most common lines spoken about the guy.
But then why was ‘ Don't Try’, engraved on the epitaph of his tombstone. The success of Bukowski wasn’t really a result of his perspiration, or determination but was due to the fact that he was a loser and he accepted it and wrote honestly about it. Bokowski’s book was a work of genius, not due to the fact that that he overcame all the odds stacked against him, but due to the fact that he had the ability to be completely honest with himself, especially about the worst parts and to share his feeling without a hesitation or doubt.
This book is full of such examples and and I could write a very long answer about this book but I would save it for some later answers.

我只给你举一个小例子,说明这本书的真正意义;

Here are some of my favourite line from the book :
‘ You get anxious about confronting somebody in your life. That anxiety cripples you and you start wondering why you're so anxious. Now you become anxious about being anxious, now you're anxious about your own anxiety. This is the Feedback Loop From Hell.’
‘Reserve your fucks for what truly matters.’
‘No matter where you go there is a five-hundred pound load of shit waiting for you’
‘Maturity is what happens when when learns to only give a fuck about what it is truly fuck-worty.’
‘Once you become comfortable with all the shit life throws at you, you become invincible.’
I feel like this is enough for one answer. I will add more, as soon as I remember some more.
Thanks for reading.

Sejal Tiwari, Bibliophile
I had never been a regular reader though I loved reading. I read like one novel in a month.
However, this lockdown brought out the voracious reader inside me. I invested most of my time in books. I purchased some of them while others were read online.
Some of my favourites are:
The Kite Runner
This is the first book that had made me cry. I'm connected to it the most. The way Khaled Hosseini has portrayed the beautiful relationship between Amir and Hasan is really mesmerizing. He plays with your emotions leaving a smile on your teary face. This is definately a must read for everyone.

The Perks of being a wallflower
Such a beautifully written book. I fell in love with the character Charlie and connected so much to him. Each line of the book is symbolic. When I completed this book, all I could do was sigh. I just felt so satisfied with it.
The God of Small Things
I remember my school's principal had recommended this book to me. When I had started with this book I was really unsure whether it's a good book or not.But as I proceeded further, I understood what the book was. And that's when I fell in love with it. It's a book to understand and seep in.
“ That's what careless words do. They make people love you a little less.”
A Thousand Splendid suns
Again a masterpiece by Hosseini. I feel emotional as well as empowered reading this book. I don't know how this writer is capable of so much. One of the best reads.

And the Mountains echoed
This is the first Khaled Hosseini book I've read. This is the book that introduced me to the other beautiful books by this writer. I wonder how just a relationship between a brother and sister has been beautifully woven in this book and made it so much worth reading.
“I suspect the truth is that we are waiting, all of us, against insurmountable odds, for something extraordinary to happen to us.”
The Boy in the striped pyjamas
I remember a time when I was so curious about holocaust and it's effects. It was the time when I bought this. I think everyone should read this book once in their lifetime. How innocently has Bruno been portrayed and how much tragedy this book is. Just loved it!
“Don't make it worse by thinking it's more painful than it actually is.”

The Book Thief
My second holocaust book. Leisel Meminger and her war with words. It's just a mirage. There was time when Max Vandenberg stole my heart. The idea of death narrating the story is very deep. You'll definitely end this with a smile.
“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
The Subtle art of not giving a Fuck
Although I never prefer motivational books, but this book moved me. It was a wonderful approach towards life.
“Who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for.”
Although there are lot many books that I'm tempted to mention but no one likes a really long answer. But trust me there are so many books worth reading and you must definitely inculcate this habit. You will feel as if you have your own world where the characters of the books are your soulmates.

For me, all the books I have read till date are best because you can never be the same again after reading any book. Our way of looking at things definitely changes and the knowledge which is gained through the book remains with us forever.
But last year, I got hold of a book which impacted me way more than the others I have ever read. It is “Thinking ,Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman.
This book introduced me to my biases, heuristics and my limitations. I started doubting the credibility of every view point i had till date before reading that book. I got more aware of the fucntioning of my brain. I am now reluctant to judge any situation.
This book also exhibits how humans, including scientists, fail to think statistically most of the times(I am more than grateful to this book for prompting me to improve my understanding of undergrad level statistics :P ). Concepts like randomness, regression to the mean registered with me significantly with respect to the reality. It also helps to improve our decision making abilities.
I would like to recommend this book to anyone and everyone who would like to know how our brain fools as well as protects us without our conscious knowledge of it. I keep laughing over myself and my perceptions, thanks to “Thinking, Fast and Slow”.

“It kills me sometimes, how people die.”
The best book I have read, to date, is ‘The Book Thief’ by Markus Zusak.
It brings out the contrast between life and death in a beautiful manner, which never fails to fascinate me. I have re-read the book two times and the amount of amusement I feel while reading this masterpiece is the same, always.
It is set in the midst of the Himmel Street ( it translates to Heaven street) in the war-torn Germany during the World War 2. The author provides an amazing imagery of the colors of the sky and the complexities of the daily lives of the characters.
And the best part? the narrator is our very dear- Death itself!
In the story, we witness the protagonist Leisel Meminger’s love for books, how her foster father is as sweet as how he plays his accordion
I can not end this answer without another awesome quotation from the book. so here it comes-
“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.”

Chris Herd, I've read a book a week for the last 3 years

When breath becomes air - Paul Kalanithia: Haunting, beautiful, moving and perfect. Life is surprising and we can’t legislate for the things that are thrust upon us. Having planned everything out the game changed; death called. Simultaneously heartbreaking and warming, you owe it to yourself to experience the human condition, the internal disarray brought forth by love knowing expiration is close. Biggest takeaway, we all live and all die we just don’t know when it will come. Even with cancer we still don’t know when, life doesn’t change when you get ill, the timescales may short but still you never know. So live life as if you are terminal always.
Sapiens - Yuval Harari: Where did we come from, why are we here, why do we believe the things we do. Sapiens is spellbinding, and unquestionably the most interesting book i have ever read. Try this on for size: The most important things in the world exist only in our imaginations. Profound and spell binding while challenging your pre-conceived notions of why man has succeeded where other variations of humans failed.

Grit - Angela Duckworth: Why do some people succeed and others don’t? Why did the child prodigy fail? Why do some people drop out of school and others thrive? Why can’t we predict who those people will be? Grit is a fascinating book that elaborates on the things that enable us to achieve; passion and perseverance. They are everything and nothing. Unless you have them the likelihood of you achieving significant success is reduced. But you can cultivate those things. Why it is a must read for me is because it allows you to understand that our perseverance can change. How much more succesful would you be if you persevered more. I think you owe it to yourself to find out.
Business For Punks - James Watt: Become the zeitgeist, business for punks is an education on business and life. Do things your way or fail trying to please other people. Business for punks is brash, unapologetic and sure of itself. It doesn’t make any excuses, instead it forces it down your throat. In the same way Brewdog is a business like no other so is this book. It’s irreverent and certain. It implores you to be the person you want to be instead of relenting and allowing yourself to be who everyone else expects. Our biggest successes come when we are bold, brave and ignorant of the noise other people are making. Be brave enough to pursue your own happiness and success.

Dr Seuss: “You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed. You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.Wherever you go, you will top all the rest” I still read this often. Brilliantly prescient and predictive of the struggle that life can be. Some people will say its a kids book, which it is, but you are missing the point. Few texts are more profound or cognisant of the struggles we all face.
Shoe dog - Phil Knight: Priceless. How a gang of misfits can change the world. We are sold the story of oddball entrepreneurs today but few would guess that the fortunes of nike were shaped by an encyclopedia salesman, a wheelchair bound ex-athlete, an obsessive social worker, a 340lb accountant and an untested lawyer and a mad scientist atheltics coach. Phil might have his detractors but as a business book it is stuffed with gems.
Zero to One - Peter Thiel: Zero to one identifies the process for greatness. This might be the book with the most knowledge in the fewest pages on the list. He wastes no time, there is no bullshit, only thoughts and teachings. He leaves you to decide if and how to use them.
The Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams: My favourite book ever. Unless you’ve read it you won’t understand why. Just trust me, read this and you’ll fall in love.

Aishwarya Kher, Scientific Mind | Curious Brain | Optimistic | Vegetarian
‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne is the greatest book I ever read.
I admit that I am not an avid reader so my sample size of books to choose from is small, still this one is worth reading to understand how powerful our minds are.
Just to give you a short summary : It explains the science and psychology behind tapping into universe’s energy, for living an abundant and happy life. Our body has a magnetic field and every thought emits a vibration into the universe through this field. Hence, our thoughts are magnetic and very much capable to attract other thoughts and situations on the same vibrational frequency (just like radio waves). Once we realise this we can control our thoughts, use visualisation techniques and other methods explained in the book to attract the reality of your choice. The law of attraction is no magic, just forgotten mental techniques to take control of your destiny. Several great men and women in the past have used these methods, as explained in the book.
It’s a quick interesting life-changing read. I hope you get a chance to check it out.
