The USA….
I have spent short stays in places like New York or Miami. Quite a chunk of time in Oregon. The latter has some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring countryside in the world….
But I will not go back to the states. You couldn’t pay me ,a million, to live there.
The 2nd Amendment. I understand and can respect why it was created. But it should have been allowed to slide into history. The original goal is no longer feasible. Keeping it is madness. Any country which values the rights of gun owners over the lives of men, women and children is not one I will live in.
Tipping that is not a gratuity paid by customers who leave happier than they arrived. Nail in the coffin: a NYC cabbie getting out of the taxi and following us down the street hassling us for not tipping enough.
Most/enough USA citizens. Any country that elects someone like Trump to the highest office in the land… Sorry people, I don’t have enough in common with you to live there.
That’s a pity, because many years ago there were a few places I still wanted to visit in the future. It won’t happen now.

I have visited a small part of the States. I found it very pleasant and the people lovely . However , there’s no way in hell that I’d ever want to live there. We hear of too many gun shootings by seemingly deranged people.

Because they’d rather visit some place else.
I love the US, and it’s a beautiful country. But it’s big world out there with a lot to explore.
They might prefer to visit family or friends elsewhere.
They might want to visit places with thousands of years of history. Rome, Jerusalem, Beijing, Moscow and more.
They might want climb Mt Everest.
They might want to experience genuine szechuan cuisine in China.
They might not want to travel across so many time zones and deal with jet lag.
They may not have much vacation or free time.
They may simply be not interested. They same reason I would be extremely unlikely to attend a football game.

Nowadays, U.S. is not good and Safe anymore for Tourists because of the increasing numbers of Hate Crimes victim and poor Peace & Order situation. I don’t know why the U.S. government let to happen this for long and we don’t see improvement on this.
On my case even though i have a chance to visit the U.S., i would rather visit the other safe countries for Tourists just like NZ, Australia, Dubai UAE, Japan and the Netherlands.

Well, I don’t like fried food, I like having the freedom to cross the road at any place where I consider it to be safe and appropriate and I don’t want to get shot (because I could never afford the medical bills and don’t want to be bankrupt). During my lifetime I have visited every inhabited continent except North America, and I rather think I’d like to keep it that way.

Search for the name Cameron Robbins, and “Cameron Robbins shark”. Just a couple of days ago, he jumped off a ferry (or cruise), for a “dare” game, to prove he is cool, to his friends. His leg was taken by a shark first, then his whole body. This is new, a couple of days ago.
I will give you another example. Google for Ralph Yarl. He was shot twice in the head, when he went to the wrong door to pick up his siblings from their friend's place, in Missouri. The man who shot him, saw him, looked at him, and picked up the gun. then he shot him, just because he rang his doorbell. This is new; April 2023.

How about the many shootings that happen every day everywhere in the US?
How about those drivers who run over immigrants?
Check this one on the internet: pregnant woman killed in Seattle, June 2023. This lady (rest in peace), whose name was Eina Kwon, and her husband were in the car. Someone approached them and shot them. The lady was killed, and the child she was carrying, didn’t survive. She was 32 weeks pregnant. The man is in severe condition in hospital. They had no relations with the shooter. He randomly approached them.

Now, google for this:
Lilia Kilburn, Margaret Czerwienski and Amulya Mandava sued Harvard because the university did not do anything for them, in order to support them, because John Comaroff harassed and abused them. Not only the university did not do anything n supporting them, professors all supported Comaroff, and they went to the therapists to get notes about these 3 women, to find their details, and manipulate them, or to make them stop. Imagine, this is America’s university. Why would someone deal with such a huge drama just to do school? People will go to another place to study. More than 100 students walked out of the classroom, because they knew Comaroff has harassed women over the years, and they wanted to show support for those women.
It’s not only Harvard. Almost every university has done this. And they are still doing it. Because they are supported. It’s so simple. If a white man is at risk of investigation, they will be promoted, awarded, and the academic society would do anything they have in power (especially obedient women) to support them, to keep the system the same way it is.

This is the United States of America. After many years, people still pull dangerous pranks on each other, bully each other, harass each other, publicly shame each other, and play “dare” games. They shoot each other, they distribute hate toward each other, and they still tend to vote for Donald Trump. I ask you, why would someone want to visit this country? Your kid might learn terrible stuff from this country's culture, honestly. Watch the movie “you hurt my feelings” which was released not a while ago. Do you know how many armed robberies happen every day in this country, even in the safest cities? My husband and I saw a very unstable person on the street. He told me, this person seems very unstable, let’s walk the other way. I told him, see, this is why there should be a limit on carrying guns. What if this clearly unstable person has gone, and by any chance, opens tv, and sees some politician saying: “Our problems will be solved if immigrants leave our country”? What if this person shoots us, and calls it “self-defense” to solve a problem of this country? Do you know how many like these happen every day?

There are many reasons why someone might choose not to visit the United States, even if they have the opportunity. Here are a few possible reasons:
1. Visa restrictions: Depending on their country of origin, a person may face difficulty obtaining a visa to enter the United States. The application process can be complex and time-consuming, and there is no guarantee that the visa will be approved.
2. Cost: Traveling to the United States can be expensive, and once there, costs can quickly add up. Accommodation, transportation, food, and activities can all be pricey, especially in major cities.
3. Political climate: Some people may choose not to visit the United States due to the country's current political climate or policies. This could include issues such as immigration policies, human rights concerns, or the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
4. Safety concerns: Depending on where a person is from, they may perceive the United States as a dangerous place due to high crime rates, mass shootings, or other safety concerns.
5. Cultural differences: Some people may feel uncomfortable or out of place in the United States due to cultural differences. This could include differences in language, customs, or social norms.
6. Personal preferences: Ultimately, whether or not someone chooses to visit the United States may come down to personal preferences. They may prefer to visit other countries, or simply not be interested in what the United States has to offer.

I’ve visited the USA a few times, most recently Hawaii.
Nice people, crazy expensive in Hawaii these days, unimpressive food, great scenery, disturbing numbers of rather disturbed looking people about. I would not want to live in a country so lacking in sensible healthcare, so overrun with guns, and so lacking in democracy.
So visits might be ok, but not top of my list. I’m off to Vietnam in a few weeks, we shall see how that goes!

The US is a huge and wonderful country. I lived there for a bit as a child and have many amazing US friends. I’d visit again, but I have to say that I would not want to live there now. Reasons? Gun laws, pro-lifers and health care would be my main ones.
I’ll also give a shout out to the airport immigration officials. They managed to be fantastically offensive on our last visit and I’m not willing to put myself or the family through that again. What did they do? Made fun of our surname, accusing my mother in law of being “a Hitler lover”. For the record, she’s Jewish and spent the war in hiding. That left a bad taste and marred what should have been the holiday of a lifetime.

I visited the US this past weekend for the first time in four years. I have American family and friends. I have spent plenty of time in the US over the last five decades, mostly for pleasure but also for business. I have been to about half of the lower 48, covering the northeast, the Pacific northwest, the Mid-West, the mid-Atlantic, the south and California.

But until this past weekend, I have never felt uncomfortable there. Something has changed. There is a palpable, seething anger. People standing on street corners waving the Stars and Stripe, the Gaskell flag and plenty of Fuck Biden flags. And, of course, Trump 2024 flags. It felt like any disagreement could go noisy without warning.

In a parking lot, another driver turned too wide and grazed my bumper. My first thought was, “Is this worth it?” Of course, it was silly. He apologized and we buffed the scrape out. I felt like an idiot but at the same time, with my family in the car, I had concerns that I wouldn’t have had at home.
Crossing back into Canada was a relief. I felt like taking that first deep breath. I have no doubt I will go back to the states at some point. It’s mostly unavoidable. But I don’t see myself looking forward to it the way I once did.

It’s a long way away, it’s fantastically dangerous (a director of a company I worked for was shot dead), the food is abominable, they drive on the wrong side of the road, they can’t make tea, their president is senile, their electric mains current is wrong, they bellow in an extremely loud nasal quack, they can’t spell, they start wars which they always lose, they can’t play football, they call football ‘soccer,’ the television is dreadful, they burn some criminals alive and to others they administer drugs that make them die in agony, the price you pay is more than the price on the label, poor people camp out on the street and take drugs, everyone expects a large gratuity just for doing their job and there are almost no passenger trains.

I live in the U.S and I really don’t have much desire to travel to other cities to check anything out. I’d much rather go to other countries than being in the U.S.

I've been all over the US..it's a model of mediocrity. No real interesting history or historical sites for tourism versus big cities with major crime issues or overcrowded playground areas such as Orlando.Of course the US does offer some natural wonders but better can be found elsewhere.
Transit times. London to NY isn't that far but it's still 8 hours. 15 hours to NY from Johannesburg. 23 hours from Sydney to NY.

The high murder, rape and crime rates in the US probably aren't seen as positives by tourists. Why not go to Egypt where you can have plenty of historical sites and with 1/3 the murder rate of the US a much better chance of escaping healthy and alive?
BLM protests, riots, and looting..unless you're a paid agitator no one wants to deal with this type of stuff while on vacation.
You pretty much need a car to do anything or go anywhere. Not everyone is comfortable driving (let alone in a foreign country).
Plenty of people have heard horror stories of the US medical system. Getting injured or ill on vacation is not uncommon.

First you have to fill our and pay fir an ESTA. You might have to apply for and apply for a visa. Then on the plane you have to fill out a bunch of forms declaring you don't have aids, aren't a terrorist, etc. Then you go through all types of government agency screenings. Passport control, customs, and even the department of agriculture is running around with dogs sniffing your luggage. Scan the luggage. Take this paper over there and get another paper to take elsewhere. Forbidden items on US websites don't match agents’forbidden item list. It's almost like all the other countries but with extra steps and extra disorganization.

Having to recheck your luggage on layovers. If your final destination is Chicago but you fly into NY first you'll be expected to claim your luggage, have it scanned, and rechecked back in for your connecting flight to Chicago versus normal countries that will just forward your luggage to your final destination. It's just yet another added hassle.
Many people are turned off by the US gun culture where people are walking around in tactical uniforms sporting an AR and a couple side arms. With all the random mass shootings in the US its hard for a lot of people to quickly assess who's a threat and who isn't.

The US police state..the US has the highest percentage of its population imprisoned out of 197 countries globally. US police kill civilians at an alarming rate. The number of minor violations that can get you fined/improsoned are incredible. Basically in the US there's no way to avoid breaking a law.
The US surveillance state. .The US has more cctv cameras per capita than even china. Whistlblowers such as Snowden and assange have shown extensive spying on US citizens by the US government. You can expect all non direct communications to be monitored, recorded, read, listened to, etc. Funny thing is that many (most?) Americans blamed Snowden and Assange for daring to expose the truth versus blaming the government for violating their constitutional rights.

Xenophobia..lots of “you're in murica, speak English” folks that can't mind their own business. Lots of anti-Latin, anti-african, anti-asian, anti-white Americans as well.
My children are Americans through me but were born/raised overseas. As such their mother tongue is not English. One of my daughters was training at an olympic training facility over summer in the US. The kids were speaking in their mother tongue when our Uber driver decided to go on a rant as to foreigners using US facilities while ignoring the fact that without foreign talent (and funding) the facility wouldn't draw the coaching talent and therefore would cease to exist as a draw to any athlete.

Too much information..look buddy, I'm just here to enjoy the beach for a few days.I'm most likely not going to ever see you again after I get done paying for my bottle of water.
