I couldn't agree more. This is why we are losing all over the world on trade deals with these up an coming countries. And I am afraid given how dysfunctional our government is, I don't see that we will start winning in the world any time soon. And one of the biggest things the US needs to stop doing ASAP is to applying the outdated sales method of let me tell you what's good for you. This is outdated, world has evolved, there are options.

As a Chinese, I am just really glad to see China is building mutually beneficial relationship with Africa.
But many people might not know that there are also a lot of Chinese people don’t like how China’s current African policy. They think it is unfair to the locals, because the government allows African students to study in China with lower tuition and relatively higher living quality than many Chinese students.

Cyrus, I would like to point out that China has built in Africa every year 100 bridges, 1,000 km of railway, 10,000 km of roads, 10 ports, and dozens of schools and hospitals. In the US, there has not been anything like this in any given year, in either new infrastructure or in repaired infrastructure. Most infrastructure in the US was built in the 50s and 60s and hasn't been replaced since, just spottily repaired. China has done more for Africa in 10 years than the US has done for its own citizens in 60 years.

A good video .The biggest contribution China has made for Africa is not only its investment but also the attention it has brought to this continent (from the West and India) purely because China`s present there causes panics and jealousy. It was a place that had been ignored by the West until China has arrived and invested in.

Not only china helps African countries but they allow African students to study in China with a lower tuition fee. This made some Chinese saying it's unfair, but to me personally I can see China's intentions on African nations, build relationships and economic opportunities.

It's great to see cooperation between underdeveloped countries working together for the betterment of all concerned, bringing people together and putting people first. America has received a slap in the face and must learn to treat these nations as capable leaders, politically and morally.

As a Kenyan, i would like to add that the SGR project did not fail. It is just incomplete. The railway was to start from Mombasa all the way to Malaba at the Uganda Border to connect with Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and the DRC. Therefore it is just slunderous politics from the west and from african opposition leaders to call the SGR project a failure when it is nowhere near its completion. The East African Standard Gauge Railway is the future and theres still talks with Beijin to complete the project.

Sadly our leaders had failed to see how much USA and Europe disrespect Africa for so long until, recently, China came with the seemingly respectful gesture. To me, they are all after the land. Only with different approaches. But at least, China reserve a bit of respect within their approach and didn't dictate to us who to walk on our land unlike USA and Europe. Even in the face of Africa's realization of their activities, they still are dictating who and who-not Africa can befriend.

I always believed Africa to be beautiful and prosperous. And really I was able to understand the pain and suffering Africans go through before let alone the terrible treatments they still face today. I wish that China can help Africa get back on track to being prosperous. I know everyone thinks Chinese influence is bad, but if we are able to come to where we are today, won't you think its more of a success than not? What irks me is when people point to a few failed or underperforming BRI projects and then conclude that China is screwing developing countries. Such colossal ignorance! They expect every BRI project to be a success but that's just not how the real world works. As you pointed out, some projects will underperform and some will overperform but the overall BRI is a great success.
