i wonder if this is somehow related to the recent event of Chinese young mom being killed in bangkok shopping mall, plus the fact that marijuana is legal in thailand. cuz any form of marijuana or drugs would be illegal in china, so it would be reasonable to try not letting people who consume those recently walk into our country visa-free.
but drugs and guns are both illegal in malaysia too, so based on these, malaysia is a safer country for visa-free.
besides, there are many malaysian Chinese who speak the same language with us. it would be easier for them to travel around china.
