I was pleasantly surprised when I went to China. It is the most futuristic country I've ever been too (and I've been to USA and European Countries). China was nothing like what we've been told by the Western Media.
Before trashing China, people need to get themselves a passport and visit China to see the TRUE China.

@dunkierookie970
China continues to amaze me each time I visit. USA and its allies' negative portrayal of China via media propaganda can only do this much damage. It will only frustrate (and wow) anti-China elements more once they realise its remarkable improvements.

@user-pg5cj3dl2t
Who cares? A Chinese poem reads that amid monkeys' howl along the riverbanks, my skiff has travelled a thousand miles. China's growth stability and development will never be shaken by the clumsy show of these countries and individuals.

It's indeed a very amazing walk about, showing the world the real Shanghai and the real China. Great to see you both snacking away and enjoying them. Hei lvana, that "cheongsam" looks great on you. A good choice ! So is the winter cap, it looks nice on you, Steve.
Love your China episodes, looking forward for more...so fun, interesting and entertaining to watch. xie xie Steve lvana for the great job

@Alice-hh5kd
Very nice city walk in Shanghai. Oh I must visit Shanghai again . Thank you for showing us this trip.
I have been following your video almost every day since your day one arrival in Shanghai

@hl5478
You guys make me missing Shanghai very much. I think it’s a good choice taking Shanghai as your first station to China. Friendly language environment, perfect public transportation, food is fine, actually you can find most of foods from the whole country in Shanghai. Btw, love that dress

@RM-qw3xz
hl: Did you migrate from Shanghai/China to another country? If so, why are many Chinese people so desperate to leave China? I know many people from Shanghai who immigrated to Canada in the past few years alone. Why are they so desperate to leave? I've visited China a number of times, and it sure seems like a pretty good country but so many Chinese people are desperate to leave China for other countries. Why?

@hl5478
@RM-qw3xz you don’t live with your mother now doesn’t mean you hate her or desperate with her. It’s just an option. Life is so complicated, people have different stories, you can’t just listen the stories from China hater. There’s 1.4 billion population in China, even 1% immigrate, it’s 14 million people that is a huge number to other countries, but 1% is not that much for China.

Yu Garden is NOT built to attract foreign tourists, it was there hundreds years already, it was a private residence of a rich Chinese family. Later became a tourist site

@user-sj9rs7ib8i
Shanghai is one of the most developed cities in China. I suggest you try other regions in China. Each region has different customs, food culture, and natural scenery. For example, Beijing, Shenzhen (40 years of development, from a small fishing village to a city of electronics and technology), Hangzhou (a new Internet celebrity city, the beautiful West Lake), xi'an (a thousand-year-old ancient capital), Chengdu (a comfortable city, with pandas, sweeping Sichuan cuisine across the country), Chongqing (wonderful mountain city scenery, delicious hot pot). Wish you a happy trip in China!

@zilaiyang9424
Yuyuan Garden was built in 1559 and has a history of nearly 500 years. It was originally a private residence. It was not built for tourists, but it has become a tourist attraction today. Brother, you are standing in front of a historical monument.

@Fordance100
Some of buildings are old. Others were built or modified from modern building to ancient looking buildings in last 50-60 years. They didn't enter Yuyuan Garden, only the "Yuyuan market" outside the garden. The tall ones are usually newly built. The really ones are usually one or two story tall. They also didn't visit the 9 twist bridge and the Taoist temple.

If you are interested in learning about China's progress and history, please provide some travel advice:
If you want to explore 3,000 years of history, go to xi'an.
If you want to explore 1,000 years of history, go to Beijing.
If you want to explore 100 years of China from colonization to modernization, you can go to Shanghai.
If you want to see a city plan built on a mountain with modern infrastructure. For the dream city built in 40 years, let's go to Chongqing.
If you want to see the future, go to Shenzhen.
This is a very rough and comprehensive statement. If we continue to add the different natural landscapes and biomes provided by China, the list will be endless, because China is very large, with too many beautiful places and many beautiful cities and natural landscapes.
What is the best of all this? No matter where you go in China, as long as it is where people live, you are absolutely safe! You are free to explore!
China is safe 24 hours a day, bars and various entertainment venues are open 24 hours a day, and restaurants are open 24 hours a day! Don't worry about being shot

@siqilyu4962
I highly recommend you guys to go to xin tian di, An fu road, Huai hai zhong Lu and Wu kang road to look around, it’s where the locals go

@HarryShen-rk8qs
Try the crab noodles/rice, Deep fried pork steak with worcestershire sauce. I know it gonna be a little bit expensive, about 100, but very special! You can also know some local friends, so that they could lead you to avoid some boring places, and see the real Shanghai.

@ernest8138
Being Chinese and been to Europe, I think one major good thing about China is that even if you don't know the region or the neighborhood, there's no real danger you have to worry about. There are no drug using crazy people at night. Security cameras on major streets to make sure you don't get robbed and hardly get stolen. Gun shots are something we only see in movies or heard from USA. No homeless people and their garbage on the streets, only cleaning aunties and uncles to keep the street clean. And these are true not only in big, developed cities, but also every smaller city, and every town all across China. It's the result of everyone sacrificed a little bit of their freedom and gain a bigger freedom of not having to live in danger or fear. This is why if you go to big cities like Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, a lot of young people could stay very late outside at night to have fun and enjoy themselves. Beijing at 2 am is as safe as 2 pm.

@changshu6463
I used to live in Shanghai for 2 years and I am in Singapore now. I would say it's a tie in term of cleaness for Shanghai and Singapore. Both downtown areas are perfectly clean, and for residential area it depends on district and community.
One thing to mention is how each city manage to do it. Singapore applys strict punishments while Shanghai hires a lot of workers to clean the street.

@YingHou-zo1py
Everyone has the mentality of following suit. If the ground is full of rubbish, why can't I throw it away on the ground, If the ground is clean, no one wants to be the first person to destroy it. So I'm in Shanghai, and the garbage in my hand never falls to the ground. Sometimes I don't see the trash can, so I take it to my company or home.

@TWisDOG1
I highly recommend you guy go check the shopping malls in Shanghai, especially the one like Qiantan Taikoo Village. The shopping malls in China are jaw-dropping and will amaze you 100%.

@markelton8498
I've watched all your Shanghai videos and loved them. I lived in Shanghai for 2 years and it brought back some great memories for me. Much of your reactions to some of the things you experienced were the same as mine.
One thing you have to accept when you live there is that some things just don't make sense to a westerners brain, and you often find yourself saying "It's China".

@fw4183
Love your videos, makes me miss China, especially the food.
My family used to live in Shanghai before we moved to the United States. The lights on the Bund start from 5:00pm to 9:00pm every night. Do not miss it. It's a very beautiful view. The best way is to find a bar on top of the historic buildings beside, the views are stunning!
Thank you for sharing and enjoy beautiful Shanghai.

@dustbean
its like siao long pau, soup wrap dumplings...its darn hard to make but some people are crazy about it but others like me find it ok...also just because u see only Chinese doesnt mean there arent any tourist...lots of singaporeans, malaysians, thais, indonesians etc are there for holiday...just happen we are also Chinese

@ludenunes6606
When I went to Shanghai we had the opportunity to see the Bund light up, and it was something to behold - especially because I didn't know we were nearby, so turning around a corner to catch a glimpse of that was really jaw-dropping. Seeing you walking paths I myself have been to gives a real nostalgia kick to the head.

@krystalyuhui2474
I'm from Shanghai and I'm so happy to see there're more and more foreign tourists coming to visit. BTW, the soup dumpling is called "Crab Dumplings in soup". The main ingredients are crab roe, crab meat, and chicken soup, so you can hardly see meat inside. But it is a famous dish in Shanghai because people love to eat crabs. The name of the rice cake dish is "Pork Ribs with Rice Cake". It's also a classic and famous dish in Shanghai. Good choice!

@yonight6871
impressive :) Shanghai looks a lot different than I expected, China is allot more modern and developed than I expected!I've visited public parks in Shanghai and was amazed at how clean they look. No litter or graffiti anywhere... even the skateboard rink looks clean. And there are lots of people out there enjoying the parks...All cities are modern.clean and very safety.This the true.True you can not see it in Western media when they speak about china.Have a nice time.

@jeansun4378
Chinese people are sooo friendly! I traveled to Italy couple years back, I tried to negotiate price on a souvenir mugs, the Indian vendor tried to slap me on the face!! I was shocked!! Lucky there was an elder Indian man possibly that young man’s father stopped him!! But I was shocked that how disrespectful Indians treats and sees woman! I tried to avoid those street vendors in Europe

@MuzikAficionado
After your series on Pakistan, loving these China vlogs The last I visited, around 3 decades ago, it has since developed quite a lot! Wish it was easier to visit our forever friend and neighbour though, but bet they want to keep their cities clean and not rushed over by tourists, who bring in an eclectic experience of cultural exchange for the natives as well.

@albert794
Thanks for the video. 30 years ago, western cities were decent and clean just like Shanghai. Homelessness was unheard of in San Francisco. People were disciplined and nobody threw trash on the street. The buses were clean and children could play outside. Something happened in the last 30 years that changed everything. It's hard to understand exactly what it is. People are acting crazy, and the cities are overrun by homeless. It's not just SF, it's every single American city.

@nomiemdtahir8866
If you can speak Mandarin language is more advantanges. You can bargain more and Chinese people will more appreciate us. I am Malay from Malaysia but I use to speak Mandarin. When I was travelled to Beijing I will speak their language during shopping .

Lana is wearing a traditional Chinese dress called "qipao." In China, the popularity of qipao reached its peak during the 1930s and 1940s. It was fully redesigned to accentuate the graceful curves of women. After the 1920s, it became the most favored attire for women and was officially designated as one of the national dresses in 1929. Lana looks very beautiful in the qipao, highlighting her quiet, grace, and knowledgeable.

@joeyyan9154
Thanks for sharing this nice travel vlog. Just a point that you may miss: most Chinese cities are all cashless, like street food stands and shops and restaurants. These camera or QR codes in every shop are for scanning for online transfer on Wechat pay or Ali pay. This may be difficult for international travellers to set up and register but once you are done you will have an easy time buying everything there

@rh7163
China is amazing no matter where you go as even the wild life is special and unique. Pandas to storks, eagles to river prawns, just a few of the many worth seeing first hand. Sometimes I wonder if I was born in the wrong country as dim sum is my favorite things to try although the soup dumplings are very hot so careful eating the soup as it can burn you. Its the gelatin that makes the soup dumplings so special.

@Isabella-wi9si
In fact, Shanghai is not the place with the most electric vehicles in China. Hainan Province has nearly half of its cars powered by electricity. This is because the cost of gasoline there is higher than in other places, but highway tolls are free, so people there are more likely to buy electric cars.

@luizleitao1775
From google:
MC stands for “Master of Ceremonies” which is basically someone who coordinates and performs live shows. Oftentimes rappers fall under this umbrella, so the term has been misconstrued over time. When a rapper performs a live show in front of an audience, they are rapping, but they are also emceeing

@QiBryan
As I known, it is called steamed crab roe soup dumplings. These dumplings are made by filling them with a mixture of crab roe, minced meat, and other ingredients, along with the addition of pig skin jelly. They are then wrapped in dough and steamed. Once steamed, the jelly melts into a piping hot broth. When enjoying them, you typically start by sipping the broth before eating the rest of the dumpling. BTW, this is from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, not a local dish in Shanghai. It has a delicious flavor, and because it uses crab roe as the filling, the price is much higher than that of regular buns. However, most foreigners are not accustomed to this dish, I do not know the reason. fishy? or anything else? lol~~~

@Phosphophyllite-lz4mb
Hahaha, for the clothing fashion, although I think it is partly due to the cold weather, many Chinese people tends to wear very normal clothes indeed, maybe they do not care that much about fashion. Nowadays the aesthetic level tends to be better among young people, and I hope it will keep becoming better in the future.

@lamchan8674
The food you guys ate on the street with the soup is considered the old style European food which served in Shanghai from the 1920s and 1930s. The Chinese thinks that they are eating western food. It is like Americans and Canadians eating in a place like panda express thinking that it is what people eats in China.

I work in Shanghai and I like your videos and subscribed to this channel. I think you can communicate better with Chinese people with the help of some translation software. In addition, China is a cashless society, and most transactions are paid with mobile phones. Cashless payments are more convenient and reduce thieves.goodvibes

How I miss Shanghai. Try to get to Duolun Street. Its an old revolutionary arts quarter, quite tastefully modern with sculptured artists of old writers/painters/etc chatting together, or sitting on one end of a bench seat. Lots of bric a brac/antique/collectables/Mao etc and some eateries/cafe/bar/restaurants and some most stunning smallish modern art Galleries.

@yuxchen123
I got to tell you some interesting facts about China. Every Province district of China has its own culture. Which means they have their different taste food. Like Sichuan It prefers spicy food with chillies and red oil. Like Shanghai They would prefer sweet food much more than the other provinces. By the way ,Most Chinese people are very friendly with foreigners. They don't care about your from the southeast Asia Or the North America. The last point is that they don't care about the politics though.Words about communist might be a sensitive topic in China.

Haven’t been since the year before Covid and so looking forward to returning.
If you’re still there. Must eats are din tai fun- haidilau( both available in other countries but not as good) and I love the dumplings from yangs dumplings( there is one below pearl tower, beside the sea life centre). We also love xiBei xiBei Cai. But I couldn’t tell you locations for those.

@HH-wn9cl
If you go to the small cities around Shanghai, you will see the cleaness will be up another 2 levels compared to Shanghai. I walked in a city in Zhejiang province, every morning they spray vast water on every streets to make it clean. I ask the local peopole why they are doing so and is it too wasting, they say their city is abundunt with water resouces, just want to keep the streets clean. Too me, it just seems too wasting.

@ocm0104
Being Chinese so glad that we are constantly improving and developing. We are happy to work together with others and make the world a better one. However certain politicians just adopt a zero sum mind set and refuse to work together, or even try every effort to stop us instead of improving themselves. They are losing and lagging behind. I would be very upset with these politicians if I were their citizen, fortunately not

@kingskill
I know that the term "French Concession" is just a casual "title" for foreigners, but for us Chinese, especially Shanghainese, it is actually an "offense". For Chinese people, the concession is a humiliating memory. Please use the term "Jing'an Business District" instead of "French Concession". You can call this area whatever you want in private, but please don't put this phrase on public online platforms. Thank you.

Not true about zero pop culture and so on. I am Shanghainese and i only see tourist locations in your vids, just because of the sheer size of the city, although there are a lot of unique places, they are all kinda hidden(also because of lower rent), even for me as a native. Don’t believe in any guy in recent youtube vids.
Try find some areas where many foreigners meet up. They always know the newest cool place in town, even i can’t follow up. The popular streets you visited are really very traditional tourist streets, and all the newer shopping mall and luxurious ones are way more interesting and full of interesting cultures, mostly visited by locals and hobbyists.

In the Sixties all Asian countries were very poor.
Brazil, which was also poor then but not that much, had a GNP three or four times higher than any of these Asian countries.
Today, they are the ones which have GNP three or four times higher than Brazil's.
What did we do wrong?
Why the Asian Tiger countries, including China, exploded towards wealth and order while all Latin America countries remaimed behind?
Are we are more dionisiac than apollonian, in a rough comparison?
Is it because we choose leisure before work, art before technology, imediacy before planning, today before tomorrow, messy freedom before discipline and order?
Competition for us is sport, not survival. Sacrifice is not enough justification for obtaining money.
But it does cause impression the dynamism of the Asianh countries and their increasing wealth!
Should we chance our values?
