I say Cleanliness is a major issue because India is generally known to be a very unhygienic place. Videos are always blowing up online about street food in India, and watching how the food is made and then served to customers quite literally makes me cringe. Not to say that all food is made or served like that of course, but still, it does show that hygiene standards are slim. Even though I live in Indonesia where plenty of places are generally unclean, I do not have a desire to go somewhere with worse conditions.

Stress would destroy a holiday to India because of traffic and tourist scams. I've read that it's regularly worse than Jakarta in many places, which is just mind-blowing because in Jakarta you spend hours in traffic every day (in a car). In addition, tourist scams are common. While people try to rip you off because of your skin color in Indonesia, I've personally seen the situation here and the attitude towards foreigners improve.

However it cannot be compared to the tourism inside southeast asia for southeast asian people, because no need visa for southeast asian to travel inside this region. I have heard from foreigners who have been to NE India praising the people sky high. They told me that they will come back to India to be in North Eastern States. They did not mention about the beauty of Himalayas or ancient temples but people. NE people are now English educated they are humble by nature though we have negative impression too. Many Westerners prefer Thailand because of Women, Wine , beaches and inexpensive stays. . Another reason it is tourist friendly. Anyway India is comparatively a too big country for tourists .Tourism is based on entertainment. I am amazed by Alcazar Cabaret show in Pattaya I don't think India has such a fantastic show. The Indian politicians are unconcerned about tourism development. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philipines, SriLanka and Indonesia are competing with each other to get more tourists to their countries. There is true professional approach to tourism than India.

(Buses are terrifying, in general to one not used to the roads of India with constant, last-minute swerving to avoid cattle, potholes and ravines, bikes, tuk-tuks, trucks and other vehicles.)
If you can get your train tickets online you can look forward to a pretty chaotic boarding experience. It’s a massive population and lots of those people use the trains.

I do like to travel often. Not one trip in India is free from exhaustion. The hotels don't offer the service they claim, they are barely clean of you pick a everyday pricing. Everything needs “agents” to get stuff done. The touristy places are extremely crowded. Once you are a tourist you are an easy mark.
