I don't feel like this "look after our own" attitude (not yours, just the attitude our politicians seem to have) is very helpful. Feel like the issue is that many countries (ourselves included) have exploited the shit out of developing countries causing poverty/ instability, and now that people no longer want to live in these areas and we end up with a "migrant problem".
For me the problem is not migrants coming over, the problem is that we've created a world where people are willing to risk their lives to live in our country vs where they are. I don't feel like this "look after our own" attitude (not yours, just the attitude our politicians seem to have) is very helpful. Feel like the issue is that many countries (ourselves included) have exploited the shit out of developing countries causing poverty/ instability, and now that people no longer want to live in these areas and we end up with a "migrant problem".
For me the problem is not migrants coming over, the problem is that we've created a world where people are willing to risk their lives to live in our country vs where they are. Why don't they go to saudi? A much richer, safer country than our own. It's not about looking after our own first. There's more immigrants in the UK than there are Welsh people. Irish government gets to blame the UK for their immigrants and UK government gets to claim their plan is working. Its in both their interests to keep this speculation going.

As far as I'm aware, because of the dumb and unfair Brexit rules Northern Ireland got, there's no border checks or anything. So it's obviously easy to head over there. They're effectively in the EU in many ways. So just a flight or a ferry over to Northern Ireland and they're set.
The whole Rwanda thing is completely stupid to begin with anyway and likely a huge waste of money (though I'm sure it's going in some Tory's pocket somewhere).
