Not sure if it's entirely relevant to your specific situation, but Asians, or at least Japanese, and Westerners never seem to agree with the comfortable temperature (and ethnicity doesn't matter). My wife and expats friends always seems to want to make it a few degrees cooler at very least throughout the year. So depending on where you come from, the AC temp convention could be frustrating for you.

There are also tones that are important to distinguish words, but English doesn't have tones in the same way. Just a heads up.

Trying to get people to understand the difference between the 'q' sound and 'ch' sound is tough. You can say it's a 'ch' sound pronounced with your tongue in the bottom half of your mouth instead of the top half but for non-Mandarin speakers 'ch' is close enough. Hard to tell from the vowels whether it was the right or wrong 'oh' in 'Chong'. Your pronunciation guide deeper in the chain certainly demonstrates you know what you're on about though. That's why it's much more highly upvoted than your "No" without explanation. Lots of people are thinking, "eh, close enough".

I always say make a "ch" sound with your teeth held against each other and somewhat exhaling. The "tzhhhhhhh" hissing sound is pretty close.

Madrid's subway cranks the heating in the winter and the AC in the summer all the way up. It's almost like traveling to the opposite hemisphere. The buses are even more extreme with this.
