China prioritizes Merit
However China also prioritizes:-
Affordable Primary & Secondary Education to every one
Affordable Tertiary Education to every one
Affordable and Free Coaching for Students in STEM subjects
Thus the Poor Chinese student has a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD with the Richest Chinese student
They go to the same school
They study the same subjects
They both have free school until IX and later pay 2000 RMB a year for their secondary education
They can go to the same University regardless of if one if the son of a millionaire and another is son of a shoe shine man
They both have the medium of instruction as Chinese and both have the same English Coaching Materials
So in China - Meritocracy is much easier because there is a level playing field between Chinese students of all Categories
India is entirely different
It is a cesspit of corruption and evil in every sphere and fibre
First - THERE IS NO LEVEL PLAYING FIELD between the Rich and Poor Students
The Rich Students pay ₹50–300 K for School Education and can easily cough up ₹2–3 Lakh for Coaching
The Poor Students can't pay a fifth of this and struggle in every way possible
As a result - Meritocracy could be lost in a world of Elitism
So if Reservations are removed today, it could be a return to the British Indian times
So the first step is to
Ensure EVERY STUDENT HAS A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD
Ensure only the really oppressed students can get the benefit of reservations
This means :-
More Primary Schools
Better Quality of Teachers
Mandatory for every Teacher and Professor to give 2 hours free coaching every week
More Government and Quasi Government colleges
Plus my original suggestions:-
No Reservations for those who have a family income above ₹5 LPA (ST), ₹10 LPA (OBC), ₹8 LPA (EWS & SC)
Only Two generations of a family will get benefit of Reservations
If this is done, then we can think of China like meritocracy after 3 generations (21 years)
In India, we are in the opposite direction
We are handing over education to capitalists who are exploiting the average students and common students
So real meritocracy is likely very far away in India
