Its about double this number. Many of us haven't worked since 2020 and never applied for benefits due to our age. Being forced into unpaid retirement at 55 SHOULD be counted as unemployed.

I mean what a surprised, inflation and home prices have outpaced the median income 50% worse than peak 2007 bubble and the stock market's simultaneously in the largest bubble in world history. Unemployment will hit 15% next year and homes will crash 65% in most states.

I've certainly used Amazon but I prefer brick and mortar based on principle and for many, many, many different reasons, there's plenty of people that do. I'm sure online shopping will never fully replace brick and mortar. Especially when it comes to shoes, clothes, jewelry and anything else that has to be tried on. Also if you live next to a lot of retail stores, it's more convenient to drive 5 minutes than wait 3 days

Might have to remove more workers from the roles to keep unemployment down.

@trevormeed7044
Remember, as people who give up lookong for jobs are removed feom all jon market stats. The unemployment rate only looks at jobless people activley searching for work, so if you have a stand in job in between carrer work cuz you got fired, boom, thats a new job created, even though you are way worse off.

@KenKaniff-dw4jw
Also remember it does not count someone collecting unemployment who is looking for a job aswell

@MrDXRamirez
It does not appear the recoveries are long enough in the US economy to make up for the recessions.
Also it is quite more likely since stocks trading volume has risen that employers need fewer workers to produce the same rate of profit or better .
Either way, not a good picture for American working people, in fact, it’s more of an assault on working people by the Fed.

@Booo883

Well this will make the GOP so happy, finally some bad economy news to talk about. It's a shame that they can't talk about the record number we have had month after month that was good for the country. It's like they are only happy if the country is in distress.

@nomdeguerre7265
The more socialistic the government the steadier and more consistent the economic decline. It's always been so and still is. It's worth noting that most of the 'new jobs' aren't even real jobs that produce goods and services of benefit to consumers. Most of them were government jobs, which represent negative investment into long-term economic prosperity.

It’s because people are working more jobs since they can’t afford anything, more people who aren’t from American are coming into work.. we need to focus on abolishing taxes on the lower and middle class. Reducing inflation and fixing the housing problem. Oh and I interest rates as well as not having extremely expensive heath care

According to the Corporate MSM, crime is down, the economy is great and illegal immigration doesn’t exist so it must be true. Meanwhile I’ve been unemployed since 2020, I’ve witnessed crime I’ve never seen before in my city and I cant find a single Walmart anywhere around me with employees who speak English.

@donnam5060
Unemployment numbers are just a mindfuck because they dont exclude 'jobs' that are not able to sustain self-sufficiency, ie those under the definition of full-time work that makes you eligible for health insurance, pto, etc. All part time jobs under 32 hours a week should be excluded. Definitely all these crap part time 12-20 hr a week jobs you cant live on shouldnt count. If they would look solely at full time work and the number of citizens seeking a full time job, the numbers would be much higher. A look at the number of low-hours part time jobs would show that there are a ton of those crap jobs that offer 12-16 hrs a week in 4 hour increments and want 7 days, 18 hour a day availability. Its not realistic.

@michaelmappin4425
We shouldn't even ever talk about unemployment. Everywhere I look, I see people hiring. If you can't find work, it's because either you don't want to work or your concept of what your labor is worth is overinflated. I can find a job by walking out my front door and walking no more than 1/4 mile.

The tax rate hikes were intended to slow the economy and spending and it was predicted that unemployment would increase back to the normal range of 4-5.5% . The risk is that too many rate hikes and nor cutting rates in a timely manner can have a adverse outcome too. Why would anyone think that employment numbers would not change? This was all expected and predicted as part of correcting inflation by means of rate hikes. What I always wonder is that of consumers are spending too much money and the economy is too hot - why not just make a statement to the population of the problem and ask them to consider limiting debt for spending. So consumers are in the current situation because we spent too much money on goods and services and the economy was too hot for supply and demand. So the FED had to punish us with rate hikes to force us to stop spending. Slowing appending means less sales and that means loss of jobs. It's not rocket science. The stock market loved the returns on all of this spending as companies posted record profits. 401k accounts enjoyed good returns. Regardless of the situation someone loses and someone wins.
