There seems to be a lot more of this quaint village that you’d like to show but have to leave out to keep each episode within a reasonable length. How about starting a first episode as a trailer, then have two or three full episodes that follow with more detail, interactions with the locals, aerial views and geographical info of the locations for viewers that would like to visit personally as well as armchair travellers like me I enjoy your explanations of the various minority Chinese people and their unique architectural styles and clothing as well as their life skills. Thank you for bringing to us such immersive insights into the far reaches of a grand old country, from, BC

Hi.....greetings from Australia......just love your videos on China....and the music you use. I am 80 now, having lived in Dalian as a teacher in the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages in 1980 , I love the country, but had little chance of travelling extensively in those days. Your videos are "an eye opener" for me.......being too old to trek around I am enjoying your interpretation of China from the living room.....China has come such a long way since 1980 when the first free markets blossomed into possibly the greatest economy in the world. I am so proud of my ancestral land . Please keep making great videos

With many Westerners avoiding to go to China, it is now actually one of the best times to go there. Fewer foreign tourists, cheap accomodations, and for some, a good exchange rate.
I was there last December. The country is beautiful as always and very safe, much safer than touristy places in US and Europe.
The country is not perfect and I know it is difficult to separate out our prejudice due to the negative news reporting against China, but if you keep an open mind and see the people there for who they are, you should have a good time.

@The_Belgian_Waffle
it doesn't look like venice at all in any way, its not just because a city has a river/canal in the center where boats pass through and old building that makes your city become like venice. Europa alone has so many cities like this, Some examples are Amsterdam(Netherlands) and Bruges(Belgium). The thing that makes Venice unique is that boats are the ONLY way of transport.

@mattmaggoux9859
Damn! It feels like every river in china is another ‘china’s venice’. There’s just so much pretty riverside architecture!

I'm an indian and I had visited China 20 years ago. I had seen clean an unclean China at that time. Now in your footages I see China, even rural and urban, which is exceptionally organised and clean which puts me to shame because india has got totally disorganized and filthy at the same time. I want Indians to compete with China in cleanliness if not the economy.

@firefly4784
Economy grows then cleanliness will naturally follow. You need money and infrastructure to do a good job on recycling. For example, recycling bins and street cleaners can be seen everywhere in China especially public places in big cities.

In fact, India is developing very fast now. But it would be great if the government could be aware of environmental protection and pay attention to environmental governance and protection during development. I have met many Indians abroad who are very enthusiastic and confident in their words. I just hope that India will not trust the US government too much. I very much hope that China and India will return to their previous relationship. When I was a kid, I watched a lot of Indian musicals. At that time, I thought Indian women were very beautiful, and the lines in Indian movies and TV dramas were like poetry. I wish you happiness.

@mbg4612
Just so beautiful! Your videos are all amazing, China has a blend of old and new, traditional and modern (",),. its like a walk in 'history', some of the roads or buildings are old, that it makes you wonder how was 30-50 years before, the people who live there, walk the same pavement or roads as you... like wow! and its like so homey too, so relaxing.

@aloyrain8099
Doesn't look too bad. I haven't seen many older beautiful places in China, but this one seems picturesce and quaint. And this I much more love than all the glass cities in any country. Truly. They at surface level seem grand and from that perspective inspiring, but the people are much colder, culture is low, and life is not anything like in these older well and beautifully preserved places in the world.

@mailmanjim57
Yan, I love your videos. You are giving me a whole new perspective on China. Chinese culture truly is divorced from the government, at least the one that has been shown to the U.S.

@vegamoonlight
The development of this place and other Chinese cities could not happen without government initiative. It is important to study China's ever-evolving government system to better understand the country. So your statement about the divorce of Chinese culture to China's government didn't happen. It is just that, because of the meritocratic system, local government officials such as those in this town are more keen to develop their jurisdictions to gain more 'merits' and climb higher in a very steep Chinese political ladder. In other words, if a CPC member wishes to serve a higher level, then he/she must start in a local level.

@ymhktravel
China is too huge with many quaint small towns, alley ways, lakes etc that even local Chinese have not heard of. There are many small ethnic towns and villages littered across the country. They remained unknown or known to only a few until some local tourists or vloggers post them online . Then it becomes overwhelmed with tourists.

@ALWH1314
Noticed all the places are clean, didn’t see any rubbish on the street; and totally cashless, all the street vendors take cellphone payment proving the wide spread of internet network and the speed of financial ecosystem operation.

@wburck123
"The noise, the smell, the lighting!" Indeed you can not describe a Chinese wet market. You have to experience it by walking through it. Yet I was surprised, coming from an over-regulated country like the United States, that no one ever got sick or fell ill from shopping in one, The number of products available from fish, chicken, pork etc. to grains, breads, biscuits etc. is mind boggling.

@kannadassasn
I always pause your video and think about How it will be about 200 years ago. Seeing the wealthy stone works and the cultural state, I feel this part of China must be very much like today's. I see the people' face and see the cultural DNA. China is a different world and pure as always, if I get time to learn, preferably it is Chinese. Thanks for your beautiful word and voice, it make us walk with you, sometime feel the cold and warmth.

@jparsit
I was there just before COVID-19. This is an amazing place. I loved it environment, architecture, food, and friendliness of Chinese people. It is very commercial but people are still friendly and smile all the time. The night view is splendid. I disagreed that this is like Venice, perhaps it was built without the Western traces or before Venice. Often, people say Hainan is China Hawaii. But it is not. Hainan is totally Chinese identity, not Hawaiian. East is East and West is West, please respect each culture and identity. Nothing against the West, that is the way I think. Your video is interesting.

@raulbeienheimer
I like your videos, they helped me to challenge and change how I stereotypized Chinese people. Sometimes, I believe for western people may be difficult to recognize emotions and expressions on asian faces, probably it happens something similar to Asians regarding westerns. It's a matter of how our brains recognize patterns grounded on experience by the people surrounding us. You have beautiful big eyes, very expressive, and you helped me see and not just think that Chinese just want to make a digne life, and to enjoy the beauty (and vastly unknown to us) Chinese natural wonders and costumes.
I'd like to ask you how is life for people in these small cities? Beyond how they look, I mean, do they earn enough? Is it health care system good? Thank you for helping the world to understand and appreciate china and stop falling on stereotypes and fearing it. Lot of love from Switzerland

China is a real dreamland, it is a great and extremely developed country. China since 1949 has made a tremendous progress in all fields. I wish to see BRICS have their own currency by 2024. Let's be independent of the US dollar. The unlawful and unilateral sanctions of US has created a need for a strong gold-based currency, so let's have it.

@Jenkins157
What venice have is the flocking of tourist world wide, quality culturally significant products, mixed with a light seclusion and religious tone.
I think This town can get to that level in time. Especially if the political tension can die down some day.
Also Around Venice, they are also very liberal with the use of color on products and infrastructure.

@cheviscardoos
I love this view of China. It's so different then the narrative we are fed by the media. What an absolutely beautiful city.
I have one question though. Where is everyone between the age of 5-40 every single person is either a toddler or a middle-aged person. There's no teenagers, there's no 20 somethings and no thirty year olds either. What's the deal ?

@noideawhattonamethis3224
Given how long school hours are for students in China, it is possible that many teens are students attending school when she is walking around. There is also a chance that many young adults have left the town to go to the big cities of China such as Guangzhou or Beijing to try to find higher-paying jobs.

@phlebiacbrothers717
It's sad how so many people judge other countries before they get a chance to actually visit any country before giving an accurate judgement. As an American who works for a company where i have to live in many countries overseas, people dont realize how the world really is. You will never truly understand other parts of the world based by online information.

@bjornm.1121
But too be honest: It's not really a "Venice" and it's not "the" water town of China. It's "only" one amongst thousands of cities like this in China. Still, in my view very pretty to look at and a place I definitely would like to visit 1st hand. China has so much to offer for visitors. Sad, that western media only focus on the negative sides of China.

@celebrityrog
So, $16.50 USD per day for the hotel, and $0.14 USD for a ride across the river. That's like dirt cheap. Of course this does come at a larger cost than financial, there is the logistics of getting to China and this location, communicating with locals none of them speak English, making reservations in advance is near impossible because of this and internal political issues that make internet a bit difficult to get the information you might need. And while China is not on my list of destinations, not going to lie, I do find this place quite fascinating and beautiful even if somewhat impoverished the architecture, building materials used, the river course and the age of these settlements. Seems the locals are friendly as well. Of course, this would be a very different perspective from an average white European comes traipsing on in wanting to play tourist. I'm sure the costs go up and the friendliness goes down a bit, and there are no free samples at little stalls. That woman was adorable by the way with her baby. So rare you see an actual cute baby but that one was definitely cute.

@xrpwatts2116
Is it safe for American and Philippines family to visit this area? I've always wanted to visit China but don't want to feel like I'm being followed because they think I'm there for wrong reasons. Just want to support economy there by visiting. China is beautiful. I would hate to think the Chinese people have any hate for Americans because our government is so corrupt.
