Why do most Indians prefer to settle abroad?
I being an Indian, moved to Canada for my better future and career. As I have been living here for approx five years. I will answer the question with my observation and experience I have gained by staying abroad for long. “If India is SO GOOD, why do Indians decide to settle abroad” is a big question to solve! Below are the reasons what I feel is the cause for people to move from India to elsewhere.

Better Opportunities
The increasing population has made India one of the most populated countries in the world. So, finding adequate opportunities for this vast population is very challenging. So, I believe that people move to foreign countries as they see opportunities for their better future and also wages in foreign countries are much more than in India.

A better way to live
With better work opportunities comes a better life. So you can't miss discussing the quality of life. The style of living is high; however, a great deal can be remembered in this aspect. Most importantly, you don't need to stress over waterlogging, power cut downs, pollution, and traffic jams. Everything consolidates to a life each individual deserves to live.

Quality education
The reason why I moved to Canada is their education system, and this is the reason why most people in India prefer to move abroad. We all are aware of the Indian education system, which lacks resources. In contrast, if we compare the education system in Canada or the USA or UK, they provide various accessible services such as internships, scholarships to help students in their careers.

THE VIDESHI DREAM
The "VIDESHI" dream is one of the only remnants of a frontier heritage that India has not had the option to exceed. It is by all accounts matter of pride for Indian families to send their kids to another country – both for studies and for work. The settlements are incredible for the economy, as well.
In any case, I accept that as long as the bait of a brilliant faraway land exists, more Indians will keep on looking for their fortunes outside their country.

Sidhartha Priyadarshi
Why most of the Indians prefer to settle abroad?
I can not talk about every Indian who wants to settle abroad. I can only talk about myself. I moved from India to Australia about 3 years back and had my strong reasons.
There were many reasons for it.

Tough to integrate with in your own country — This was the most important reason I wanted to move out of India and settle abroad. I was born in a state with little job oppertunities which is Bihar. My only option to have a good fulfilling life was to move out of the state. I went to a college in Delhi because of unavailability of good colleges in my state. 4 years I spent there were really good but the the tag of a being from Bihar never left me. I eventually made many good friends there but for most of the people staying in my hostel, I was a Bihari.

It was not just me but everyone from my state was a ‘Bihari'. If i am having an argument with someone, me being from Bihar was the nuclear weapon they all had in their arsenal. Everytime a conflict will end at reminding me that I am an uncivilized Bihari. Even though i hardly had any typicality of a Bihari. The first six months were extremely tough for me. A very wrong judgment on my part. I got into a friends group where me being from Bihar was constantly made fun of. It was a persistent joke. I as well was little scared of being ostracized from the group and took it. But eventually I changed my group after 6 months and had a good time after that for 3.5 years.

That was a big learning experience where I learned that no one is so important that I need to take rubbish from them. The fear of being alone completely dissappeared. But those first 6 months left a huge mark on me. I later moved to Bangalore when I got a job. The atmosphere was much better than delhi but still you are always an outsider. I faced discrimination in many places. Countless number of times, I was told that ‘this is karnataka '. Even if you live there for years and call it your home, any criticism of the city is refuted as ‘if you have so much problem, leave the city'. Which is exactly what I did after few years. And no matter how much media shows in Indian television about racism in Australia, for me it was much easier to integrate than any other state in India. My experience of Racism here is limited to ‘I will smile less at you'. Nothing which really impacts me.

Justice System — An extremely inefficient judicial system. God forbid if you get into a situation where you need justice, you will become a joke. Justice is a luxury which commoners can not afford in India.
Childcare — There are serious problems related to childcare in India. There are serious cases of child abuses which keep coming from India by the hands of their carers which I can not even fathom happening in Australia. The nannys and caretakers in India are one of the lowest paid people. There is a huge factor of jealousy which comes to play there. There is no regulation. One person will take care of 10 infants. Managing kids can be very annoying. And managing 10 kids would be a hell.

But due to many reasons, people do that to earn their living. Eventually getting very frustrated and abusing the kids. And the cases where entire staff and organization went out of their prescribed job profile to cover up instances of child abuse, to protect their jobs/reputation of their employers, scares even further. In Australia, I can be sure that if I send my child to a bigger childcare center, where there are many caretakers, any form of abuse will not happen. If there is an abuser, he/she will not get support of fellow employees to cover those things up. But I can not say the same for India.

Medical system — The public medical system in India is junk. Never been to a public hospital. Always relied on private. Affordibility was not a problem for private healthcare. Employers provided Insurance for health cover of the family. But then there is a big drawback with treatment into a private sector, with your insurance. You become a cash cow for those hospitals. You will probably undergo surgeries which are not required, tests which are noway related to your symptoms etc. Every minor illness will lead to hospitalization. Why? Because Insurance company will pay.

The public health system in Australia works extemely efficiently. I will not be pumped with antibiotics without finding out if it is actually a bacterial infection. If the care can be provided by family at home, family would be instructed on what to do and the patient will be sent home. Only drawback is long waiting time for non fatal required surgeries e.g. knee replacement etc, which is covered by my private insurance. So i have an option of not getting exploited by medical mafias. I remember getting a phone call from hospital aftet my daughter was released from hospital after a brief hospitalization, asking how is she doing and if the symptoms came back. Here medical system aims at well being of people and is not limited to the time frx when you are paying to them.

Toxic air, water and food — Fevicol in milk, Toxic injections to cows to increase milk production which wiped out vultures in India, pollution reaching an alarming level, portable water being a rarity, exteme levels of pesticides in grains and fruits is kind of scary. Nothing needs to be said further.

Corruption — Although corruption is massive in India, it doesn't affect my daily life as such. Apart from corruption in law enforcement and judicial system, I do not think I faced any issue of corruption while being in India. For any purpose when I needed a thing to be done in a govt office, I was never asked for a bribe. Yes after they finished their job, they would always ask for some money. But that was more like a ‘tip’ rather than a bribe to do the job which I gave them. Maybe it is different for poor people whom they would assume will not give any ‘tip', once their job is done. But corruption only in law enforcement and judiciary was the only thing which bothered me. My impression was always that corruption in govt sector has reduced tremendously over the years. It was the unethical practices and corruption by commoners which bothered me more. See the point regarding food.

Caste based discrimination and Reservation as political tool — Whole my life I have seen people being discriminated for their castes. I grew up in Bihar and by the time I was 4, I knew what my caste is. It was a generic thing people would blatantly ask even to a 4 year old. I was asked about it by strangers in buses, shops, trains everywhere. I have seen people scared of a particular community that they may touch you!! I have been give a bath in my village because someone from a particular community touched me!! Actually it should be way up, as second point. This is something I absolutely despise. As I grew up, i saw a massive change. People dont ask about caste as blatantly as they would earlier, but caste still remains a big issue in India to address.

Now coming to reservations, I know there are many communities which have been subjugated to discrimination for centuries and they need upliftment. I have myself witnessed it multiple times. But the current reservation system fails to uplift them. It continues to uplift those coming from families which have already got uplifted. My neighbor, who was a magistrate had all his children and their spouses as doctors. The entire family sucked out the policy of reservation. For me, it is a failure of the policy. Not because it made things difficult for me, but for those actually in need, losing out their upliftment to the kids of an magistrate. It has reduced as a way to garner votes. More vocal a community is, more reservations they have. Which is totally against the basic fundamentals of reservation. If you are so vocal, and you voice is not supressed, sorry you do not need reservation.

Overtly religious population — I know religion is a personal matter and it should not bother me if they are religious, but it impacts me as well. A new 4 lane road in bangalore reduces to a 2 lane road, coz there is a temple there, beating the entire purpose of widening the road. Eating beef is illegal in many states. Even though country claims to be a secular one, doesn't have uniform civil code. My right to free speech is curbed because someone out there is always prepared to take offence. I can go on and on about this but that might hurt some ‘religious sentiments’. So I will stop here.

Poverty — There is a huge poverty in india which overwhelmes me. I used to do few thing for the poor which I continue doing it from Australia as well. But poverty doesn't only Impact me from an emotional point of view. It impacts me from a very practical point of view as well. Poverty leads to social problems as well. There is two India living side by side which doesn't understand each other. They have different cultures, different definitions of morality, different outlook towards life. Poverty means poor education and massive gender related issues. Something which women in our family do or wear, might be normal for us. But for them that might be asking for trouble. In my opinion, most of the rape cases in India are caused by this. Actually many might not agree, but I think if one is facing a very tough life, it is little difficult for them to be in touch with their human side. Personally I want to do and i also do few things for the upliftment of poor, but I would not trust them.

Money - For me this was not the reason. Me and my wife were earning more than what we had ever thought or we ever needed. We didnt have any financial problems as such which could be solved by moving to another country. But I have put it because, this is a big reason for many who move out.
So these were my reasons. There are plenty of reasons for me to go back to India as well. But the question was not about that.
