After having lived in China for over 5 years, it still blows my mind how many huge cities it has, which most people in the west never heard about. The scale is completely different, and cities with a population of 1 or 2 million are considered "towns".

@ChrisHereToday
So true, your comment is correct

@ww3758
@user-vl4jo8qi1n I know, it used to belong to Sichuan until 1997. Calling it a city is a little stretched, as it's bigger than many European countries. Have a look at the Czech Republic. CQ is bigger than the whole Czech Republic.

@HenryKHanSH

@wkz-s5l

@fragmina729
The city is about 3 times more populated than my whole country of about 10mil.

@erdongchen0823
@ww3758 Do you know what Chongqing is for? If the world warms, sea levels rise, nuclear war breaks out. Chongqing can accommodate 1 billion people.

@luminisant
@fragmina729 and 6 times more populated than my country

@pipiqiqi4010
@luminisant as the current trend of the birth rate in China, the population of these cities would decrease to half of current population within 50 years.

Although I find the gutter oil comment clearly disrespectful and discriminating because it has nothing to do with the original comment, but I also find the comments kind of funny that a lot of Chinese think people from abroad are like some kind of idiots and very gullible that people from outside would actually believe anything which is quite naive.

@anniex3141
Two funny points from a Chinese perspective:
1. I believe two most difficult cities to drive in are Chongqing and Wuhan, because a building in Chongqing may have roads on the 1st, 5th, or random floors, and a local taxi driver can drive in and out of the parking lot to reach the destination in just 5 minutes instead of 20 minutes on the Baidu map(moooore accurate than Google map in China). Other Chinese people don't dare to drive in Chongqing, and you, as a non Chinese-speaker foreigner, choose Chongqing for first time drive in China
2. Chongqing Hotpot is famous by its numbing spicy but we don’t just eat it from the pot! Either go with sesame-based zhimajing for northern hotpot, or sesame oil- based dipping sauce for southern hotpot like Chongqing. Both dipping sauce can balance the spice. Cannot imagine how spicy to eat food straightaway from the pot without dipping
If you cannot eat spicy, try Beijing hotpot with sesame which is bring more original flavor of meat. Or try hotpot from Guangdong/ Fujian, which is a province that local not eating spicy food and focus more on seafood.

1.我认为最难开车进入的两个城市是重庆和武汉,因为重庆的一栋建筑可能在1楼、5楼或随机楼层都有道路,当地出租车司机可以在5分钟内进出停车场到达目的地,而不是百度地图上的20分钟(比中国的谷歌地图准确)。其他中国人不敢在重庆开车,而你,作为一个不会说中文的外国人,第一次在中国开车就选择了重庆;

@madingthree
why do you think wuhan is also hard to drive in, given that wuhan geographically is basically like the opposite of chongqing where the entire city is flat

为什么你认为武汉也很难开车进去,因为武汉的地理位置基本上与重庆相反,整个城市都是平坦的;

@Riyoshi000
@madingthree might be because of crazy drivers or difficult to navigate highways/main streets?

@user-bb9kl2xr8b
@madingthree I work in Wuhan and drive over a thousand kilometers within the city every month. Wuhan is notoriously known as a city where driving is a free-for-all, and it has one of the highest traffic accident rates in China.
Here, turn signals are more like an accelerator for the car behind you. If you're trying to merge from the on-ramp to the main road during rush hour and you've turned on your signal, you'll likely wait three to five minutes without any cars letting you in. However, if you're bold enough to take a chance and cut in aggressively, the drivers behind you will respect your assertiveness and won't worry about hitting you. Most drivers in Wuhan are quite skilled, after all.
During rush hour, a journey that would normally take an hour can be completed in 40 minutes if you're willing to be aggressive and cut in line. More timid drivers might end up taking an hour and a half, which is one of the reasons why this driving style is so prent.
Another reason is the local temperament. There's a running word here that if you've been driving in Wuhan for five minutes and haven't started cursing, someone else has probably been cursing at you for five minutes.
Crossing the crosswalk is also a gamble. Traffic lights are merely suggestions here, and even when the light is green, no one will voluntarily stop to let pedestrians cross. If you wait on the sidewalk expecting drivers to yield, they'll just keep going and just flash their high beams repeatedly, as if to say, 'I dare you to step in front of me.' However, if there are a few locals together, we might just ignore the red light and cross anyway.
There are tons of traffic cameras everywhere, but the traffic department rarely issues fines for traffic violations. It seems like they've accepted this aggressive driving style as the norm.
Like many other cities in China, there are also countless electric bicycles zipping around recklessly, and I'm sometimes one of them. Drivers need to be extra cautious.

@ChrisHereToday
I've been over here for 13 years. I forgot how to drive :)

I never seen or heard of anybody eat crocodile, spiders or scorpions while I am living in China, those are dedicated to attract tourists. But most of us could easily have stereotype that's the Chinese food, since I am living here I could 100% say they are not at all.

@posltlw
Chinese here, I've NEVER heard about crocodile mean being eaten in China in my entire life. I thought that's a Florida thing!

@violetviolet888
@posltlw No. Alligator meat is more common in Florida than crocodile meat because alligators are more numerous than crocodiles in some areas, and alligator meat is more widely available on the market. For example, American alligators are more common than crocodiles in Florida, and alligator meat is easy to find on the market. Alligator meat is also used in many Southern US cuisines, both historically and today.

@King-cc6gl

@violetviolet888
@King-cc6gl Nutrients are nutrients. Simply in different forms. However this is RARE even for the citizens of China.

@HsinC-

@agme8045

@violetviolet888
@agme8045 People eat it in the United States too.

@annalee1325
The situation is different in different regions of China. In Guangdong, crocodiles are sold in supermarkets, just like beef and pork.

@peterepic1003

@violetviolet888
@heqiuyisheng911 It's not common in China OR in the United States, but where there are humans, there will always be people who do this.

@xinyiquan666
@user-ls4jx3pz1o those are not Chinese food,. crocodile meat is from US and other part of world, spider and scorpion are not local either, its for tourist place

@Zhixia-rp5sr
People do eat it in some cities just like Yunnan,Guizhou.eating or not depends on the local environment and eating habits.

@Grayson_Wu

@violetviolet888 Chinese don't distinguish alligator and crocodile, it's the same word 鳄鱼. So they could mean alligator meat at the same time.

@k.vn.k
Actually crocodile meat is pretty common in Australia.

@catsilly819
Most of the old people are from the countryside to the city, so spitting/talking loudly or even asking strangers for personal information such as employment/marriage/age is a sign of bringing rural habits to the city, this behavior can't be changed because this generation didn't even see disposable diapers when they were young, we need to accommodate and persuade them rather than simply ask them to obey the current standard

Haha Chongqing, my only memory was having an ass on fire after eating Chongqing hotpot. And ofc I’m from Guangdong

Let me get it straight, you got a temporary driver license in China, and the first thing you did was renting a car and driving in Chongqing? You do realize even Chongqing locals get lost driving there? Let alone those crazy yellow cab drivers on the road in Chongqing?

As a Chinese, chongqing is my favorite city in China, good trips and having fun!

why people like the extremely spicy is not just the challenge as it also gives you a kind of euphoric high after the pain. it's also healthy to clean you out and rejuvenates the nervous system. its not healthy to eat this way everyday but occasionally (or no more than once a week but usually once a month for most) it actually is healthy like a jolt and spring cleaning to your system.
