I personally think America should always be accepting of people who want a better life, will follow our laws, and want to do good in their community. I also don’t expect, nor really want, people to lose their own cultures, foods, music, etc.
We as a country are stronger when we take people in who become Americans. As a MN resident I find the the local Hmong and Latino populations to be great examples of collective groups of immigrants who have come and embraced being American while maintaining who they are culturally.

You're not a true American if you don't assimilate and you don't adapt to the culture of the United States. You do not deserve to become a citizen. You are just using our country for your own benefit. You are probably sending money home and at one point in your life you plan to return there. So you're not really an American. You are just biding your time here and taking up space.

To a degree, yes. One of the things I like about our country is that people have the freedom to choose how they want to live. As long as they aren’t pushing shit like Sharia Law, which is utterly incompatible with US law and values, I have no problem with people who want to come here and become an American but still retain the positive aspects of their culture. I agree that sending money back to their home country can very easily have a negative impact on our country and should not be encouraged in any way, shape, or form.
I try and stay as positive as I can in my answers. There’s enough negativity in the world as of late.

That is a horrible thing to ask. Each person is an individual. I do not judge the people. In some cases a similar behavior trait is common. And one can predict future outcomes but that doesn’t make them better or worse. Here is an example. there are people from Canada that are illegal immigrants and there are people from Mexico that are illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is a behavior I judge as criminal behavior. Where they came from does not make them better or worse. Their action is a crime against our immigration system. However if we look at past data we would find that there are more illegal immigrants that came from Mexico then from Canada. Therefore it is reasonable to predict that in the future that trend will continue.

If you were to phrase your question, “What is the worst behavior common among immigrants.” I would say failure to assimilate and failure to speak English. In my opinion it is very rude behavior. I would also address education. Some Ethnic cultures value education while others do not. Mexican people would rather send their children to work than send their children to school. It is true that some people from Mexico have college degrees but the average education level of literacy for people from Mexico is equivalent to an eighth grade student. Which I believe is a big reason why so many Mexicans are impoverished.

One reason is that it is one of the hardest languages to learn. Because for every rule, there is an exception. Other languages are phonetic; they sound like they look. Not English. It’s half latin and half german. With a lot of words from around the world thrown in.

I grew up with people whose reason to not speak English around their kids was simple and correct: they wanted their kids to speak english correctly and that meant learning it from the teacher. BTW- I didn’t say “a teacher”. I said “the teacher”. Big difference in level of respect. They felt that this would help their kids speak two languages well.

One of the beautiful things about America is our standard of living. Kids in Mexico are not schooled because the family would go hungry if everyone didn’t work. Mexico isn’t impoverished because it’s kids don’t go to school. it’s kids don’t go to school because it is impoverished. You reversed cause and effect. But it was also like that for Americans a hundred years ago. But not lately.

Like yourself I empathized with them and supported their excuses. I use to think the Law and Immigration were the bad guys. I saw these families struggling to make a living just like myself. Basically I saw them as people no different then myself. Back then every thing you are saying I would have agreed with 100%.

I’ve struggled through 2 depressions .The first was in Minnesota in the 70’s interest rates were 18% and unemployment in the area I lived was at 35%. The second was in New Mexico in the 80’s. Oil prices dropped from $36 a barrel to $9 a barrel. Unemployment was up over 40%. Engineers were working at convenient stores for minimum wages. At the time I owned several rental houses and a 13 unit apartment building. Overnight the town became vacant. The real estate market crashed, I lost my job and was completely broke I had to file for bankruptcy. Everything I worked for was gone.

Hopelessness is a horrible feeling feeling. I was broke and about to become homeless. I felt suicidal. A family of legal immigrants from Mexico that I was good friends with let me stay in their home for about a week. which was when I was able to catch a flight to Seattle where I stayed with my parents for a week. I got a job selling cars. In that week I earned over $3000 which was enough to rent an apartment and furniture. The company gave me a demo to drive so my life took off right away.

He got very upset with me. “I’m American”, he said. He continued, “Get your facts straight.” “Your empathy doesn’t help them it only encourages them to not immigrate legally.” He then insulted me. “I am a better American than you!” and he called me a traitor to my country. After that he wouldn’t speak to me. Since then I’ve done a lot of research.

My wife was born in Iran, My business partner is from Laos. Many of my co workers at my job are also Immigrants and we are all friends. I am around immigrants every day. I’m not bashful, nor are they. We often talk about how our cultures are different. Do you know anyone from Mexico? Ask them if an American woman was pregnant and had the child in Mexico would their government be as generous as the American government is to Mexican women that have children here. Ask the same question to a Russian, a Chinese, An Iranian. No one is as generous as the US.

Most immigrants are as comfortable about being as honest as this man was. But trust me. Their hearts are in the country they were born in. Excuses are like Ass holes everybody has one. There are over 65 million legal immigrants and over 11 million illegal immigrants. Most of them do not speak English unless they have too. If you ask them why they don’t speak English you’ll either get a puzzled look, a dirty look, a negative response or a bullshit excuse. If they can’t speak English well its because they need to practice speaking English more often.

The man has a lot of talent, skill and drive. I lived in New Mexico for 10 years. I’ve known many immigrants that from Mexico. Some were legal some were illegal. I live in Everett, Wa. There are lots of immigrants around here.

I do believe there are many immigrants that should never have received citizenship. I don’t support DACA. And I believe that each illegal immigrant should be deported.

Personally I believe the Liberal Democrats are the ones who are allowing our country to go down the tubes. Opening borders, creating DACA and legalizing illegal immigrants in this country. We need to eliminate these politicians first and foremost.
