The only country has become an advanced country without ww2 benefits

South Korea is a good role model for many developing countries in the world.

@rulluralla
Koreans never stop and make efforts to surpass the next.

@grandsonMarquis
The Korean comments that are angry about Korea's progress are not Koreans.
They are all Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean-Chinese who can speak Korean

@windigrin9649
Good post. South Korea is far outpacing Japan in defense and military equipment exports as well as industry and high-tech.

@is_ppk
During the Korean War, Korea lost all industrial facilities. All of them were destroyed. Like Africa, there was nothing. All the buildings were destroyed. It was education that such a country developed like this. And the reason why the people did well in that education is that Korea valued education for thousands of years.

@gaesang
Nowadays, many Southeast Asians are coming to Korea to work instead of Japan. The reason is simple: the salaries in Korea are higher than in Japan.

@ilovemylife1385
One thing that really surprised me when I went to bookstores in Japan was the fact that each bookstore has a separate section for hate books (books with content that hate Korea), and hate books are sold in huge numbers, The Japanese colonized Korea (1910-1945), looted, plundered, killed a lot of people, forced 200,000 young Korean girls to become sex slaves for the Japanese army, and brought 3 millions of Koreans to Japan to work as forced labor.
It's shocking that people from the perpetrator country like books that hate, dislike, and condemn the victim country and its people.
The irony of history is that Japan, the Axis power that committed countless such atrocities in Asian countries and pacific islands including Korea, eventually lost World War II in 1945, but the Korean War in 1950 led to a tremendous economic revival (factories were built in Japan to produce war supplies for the U.S. and U.N. troops), and the country has been prosperous ever since.

Can you believe that a country could transform from one of the world's poorest to a leading developed nation—all within just 70 years?

Number one reason for SK success, are the people of SK!!!
They don’t have natural resources to show for, but they have their hard working highly educated people!!!

@redsharpiemarker
japanese imperialism and the korean war ravaged koreas economy in the 20th century, but people mistakenly view korea as always having been some poor primitive society that modernized out of nowhere. yes, it struggled immensely during japanese rule, but it had been a successful, innovative civilization for centuries before then. just look back at the various dynasties like joseon and goryeo that were so rich of history and culture. this miracle growth over the last few decades was possible because korea already had a longstanding culture of intense education and hard work founded upon confucian values. koreas prowess was simply able to showcase itself once again after imperialism ended

@openmind3163
I studied Korean history a long time ago.. South Korea has achieved great development and democracy thanks to the sincerity, effort, and desire of the Korean people.. I respect and honor them.. The key is that it was possible because of their long history, culture, and the strength of their various sectors.. This should not be overlooked

@avocaza1393
All of this accomplishment with just half a country. Imagine if Korea was a single united country...they might've been a powerhouse with China in Asia.

Country's strength isn't built overnight.. South Korea was completely destroyed 70 years ago, and that was a big factor in making Korea a poor country at that time.. According to previous historical records, the current South Korea has simply returned to the South Korea before the war.. Some media mention Korean government and overlook the most important point.. South Korea's development is largely due to the sincerity and efforts of the Korean.. Korea's long history, culture, and national character are the factors for development..No matter how much the government makes social development plans, if the dedication and effort of the people and the capabilities of the people in all parts of the country do not follow, the country cannot develop and development will be slow.. Look at countries that were devastated by war or were economically poor in the past.. Even if the government led development, they could not develop as much as Korea

@Jake-gy7qo
This is only the beginning; South Korea's income will not only surpass Japan's, but the gap is expected to continue widening in the future.

@123-y7k
Korea is a country that has done something that no one else can see. It is the only country that has not invaded other countries and has risen to the status of a developed country.
The biggest obstacle to their future is the declining birth rate, but the days when people are engaged in the workforce will soon end. It is also a country that has already built a foundation that will best adapt and prepare for challenges.
For them, nothing seems impossible anymore. However, there is a variable called North Korea, but it is likely to work in a more favorable direction.

@raoplns
Japan is too boxed in their thinking and don't dare to think outside the bix and comfort zone...koreans are kuch more open...wh8ch is driving their success....

@mothernature1323
Korea has the ability to overcome economic obstacles and stagnation, but Japan lacks that ability. In the next five years, the gap will widen, and the two countries will no longer be compared. (According to a new IMF announcement a few days ago, there is already a gap of more than $3,000 in per capita GDP compared to last year.)

South Korea’s economic miracle is a testament to its strong government policies, innovative industries, and hardworking people. They’ve outpaced Japan in key sectors like technology and manufacturing, showing how resilience and strategic planning can drive incredible growth.、

Korea has historically had a large number of knowledge-based personnel. During the Joseon Dynasty, people took the civil service examination to sext bureaucrats. So people took the civil service examination from an early age by studying and teaching in each field. However, there were many restrictions because it was a Confucian culture. This historical knowledge tradition is still alive in modern society, which is one of the basic assets for Korea to grow rapidly.

South Korea deserves to be called The Great Republic of Korea now, not South Korea. Amazing country..

@Lu-ge6fj
As a Korean, I think it wasn’t that Korea got stronger but Japan got weaker lol

As a foreigner, I have been interested in and learned about Korean history and culture.. The focus is on South Korea since 70 years ago., but it does not seem to be that Korea is a country with 9,000 years of history and a long culture.. We must never overlook the fact that Korea’s development did not happen by accident, but was a force accumulated in various areas for a long time

In my opinion S.Korea is the pound for pound champ. They seem to either lead or at least be highly competitive in every major sector except energy and banking. Not much they can do about energy, but I could see Seoul becoming a major international banking center. Also, the Korean people and their culture don't get enough credit. They are highly intelligent, disciplined, and work their fking asses off.

@joshua-ij3mj
Think the rapidly growing soft power of South Korea, such as K-pop and K-drama, should also be mentioned.

@hyunwookpark6930
I am Korean, I have worked in Korea, and I have been working in Tokyo, Japan, for five years now. In my experience, Korea definitely has a higher standard in terms of administrative processes, technology, wages, and living standards compared to Japan. However, the issue with Korea is that the competition is incredibly intense. It is a culture that is not tolerant of incompetence or people who cannot perform their jobs well.

@user-vn1mdna
The reason why our country was poor at first was that Japan's influence was so great. Even before Japan left Korea during World War II, it just stamped Korean government bonds for their own benefit and the Korean economy was smashed.

@glenngould-b5v
Korea has a small land area but a large population. This is also a source of strength. Among the 27 EU member states, only three countries have a larger population than Korea. Only seven EU member states have a larger population than Gyeonggi Province, the most populous local government in Korea. The fact that this large population has a very high level of education is its strength.

@SDRL-14
Although he is Korean, there is no need to fight over this. Even if Korea exceeds Japan, there is no need to fight that much because Japan cannot live. However, it is regrettable that Japan, which was overwhelmed in the 1990s, is now like this.

@yyy-bt5bo
First, Korea was destroyed by war at the time, but its per capita income was only a few hundred dollars lower than that of Japan, and the exchange rate collapsed. Even in the 19th century, when the Korean dynasty was falling, it was the world's 13th largest country in GDP. Second, the cause of the development of the Korean economy should not simply be seen at that time, but tradition and history should be seen. Lastly, no other country will be able to learn about Korea. This is because economic development and industry must be made in accordance with the times. It will be difficult for a country that has developed like Korea to come out because the times of globalization and rapid growth of the global economy have passed. The same is true even in Eastern Europe, a member of European civilization

@00oncina16
Koreans were able to become an advanced country by eliminating the inefficiency and corruption of the country because they achieved democracy and advanced or advanced it by their own efforts. Asian countries should also know that only by becoming democratized can they develop. Without democracy, there is no development. And education is important. Korea is required by law to use 20% of the government budget for education.

@jeffstrong4580
S Koreans worked harder than Japanese. Under president Park Jung Hee came up with 5 year plans in multiple stages to develop its industry. US helped mostly during Korea War but aid quickly stopped after the war. Most US politicians didn't think S Korea would not able to recover from the war. Most aid for its industry came from Western European countries especially from UK and Germany thus even now S Koreans feel strong ties with them. Greece also helped S Korean ship manufacturing sector by placing first major ship orders trusting Hyundai will fill its obligation. S Korea doesn't recognize Macedonia and only recognize North Macedonia to align with Greece.

@teknolozik
Korean here. I can say that it was sorta wise of you rather chose not to label "that" sea between Korea and Japan. You know, there are lots of Japanese chauvinists over the internet.

@사회과학
Some people can call president Park dictator, but, it’s true, however it’s true that he has developed south korea to get high economic level. That’s why I respect him very much.

@ttoEttoE
In fact, Korea has been a more civilized country than Japan for the past 20~ centuries,
it just changed after the 18th century when Japan opened ports and traded with Europe and America first.
It's not that Korea is beyond Japan, but that Korea is finding its place

@smartwater598
Not only japan but east Asia as a whole surpassed Europe and the whole west. Especially Korea is so safe and clean technically advanced people are polite and educated. It’s time for west to accept this and learn from them and stop coping and criticizing koreas culture beauty standards etc they know what they doing and western woman love Korean men ❤❤

@아놀드C
I have been visiting many countries(about 50 countries). I would emphasize that the WIFI speed of S.Korea is the fastest in the world. Much faster than U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia, Singapore, etc. So Korean people can get any information within the short time that he[she] wants. That is a very important factor that S. Korea is moving forward ahead of most countries.

@Allin7days
"Change" is the S. Korea's middle name- dynamic Korea!
How it survived and prospered for 5,000 years between China and Japan...
Btw', Hong Kong is not a country, just a city of China.

@anthonydhan
China’s economy will gradually shrink unless the government switches from export oriented toward consumption orientation. Otherwise, China will face increasing push back from its trading partners and unless it switches its economy to consumption orientation, it will go into a deflationary spiral resulting in a disastrous loss of wealth.

Japan is no longer reliant on exports but its demography doesn’t support a consumption oriented economy too well either so they will continue to stagnate.

IMO, SK has the chance to continue to grow through export as long as it continues to move up market. It can do that because of its soft power through its cultural exports and it continues to invest heavily on innovation. And unlike China, its economy is small enough that it doesn’t cause a disruption in the economy of its trading partners.

@HenryLee77777
One of the main reasons why South Korea has become a developed country, having achieved rapid growth since industrialization in the 1970s and surpassing Japan in GDP is because of complete democratization. On the other hand, Japan has become an economically developed country, but has not achieved democracy in politics and society as a whole. This is the fundamental difference between South Korea and Japan.
