I am Indonesian and had friends from East Timor in college, never once we see each other with ill mannered perceptions of each other. Everytime a foreigner mention this issue like it is still an on going issue rather than historical, sounds a bit ignorant. 40 years has passed since the invasion of East Timor. It's been 25+ years since the authoritarian regime (that you mentioned supported by US) that committed atrocities in East Timor has been demolished. Indonesia is now a democratic nation. Acknowledge its historical human rights violations in East timor. East Timor has been independent for 20+ years. Indonesia and East Timor have moved on and developed diplomatic and cooperative relations esp. in supporting ET full membership in ASEAN. So yeah..in this regard of “being a democratic civilized people” (if that is what you are insinuating) Indonesia is positively in the right track.

No, I was just concerned. I hardly seen a country that was once seized by US in certain ways ever truly independent. For example Iraqi government can't even rule a bubble gum machine but massacres their own people. Syria is still a mess. Iran never recovered from the domino effect of the coup done jointly by Reza Pahlawi and Anglo-British forces against the democratically elected PM Mohammed Musaddeq. The “successful” ones like Germany and Japan pretty much became vassals of the US. They can't take healthy decisions on their own.

To be more developed and strong economically, you have to look at GDP per capita or economic output per person. Indonesia is #5 in the SEA region. Singapore is number with more than 18 times the number compare to Indonesia in terms of GDP per capita.

Countries like Japan, South Korea and many others had a single majority demography. Oh yeah obviously i agree, they need to get addresses thats why, we having otonomi daerah / Regional autonomy, where there's a regional government who can develop their own land, province and city, and mostly the one who in charge is always local of that island, but yeah i really hope that they can be MORE TRUSTED, because in reality many still lacking behind with corrupt goverment that central always need to interfer.

Oh yeah obviously i agree, they need to get addresses thats why, we having otonomi daerah / Regional autonomy, where there's a regional government who can develop their own land, province and city, and mostly the one who in charge is always local of that island, but yeah i really hope that they can be MORE TRUSTED, because in reality many still lacking behind with corrupt goverment that central always need to interfer.
