People in general know nothing about geography. You can make the same video anywhere in the world and the results won't be very different. Americans aren't dumber than anyone else.
一般人对地理一无所知。你可以在世界任何地方制作相同的视频,结果不会有太大差异。美国人并不比其他国家的人笨。

I would agree with your notion that there are intelligent and not so intelligent people everywhere. HOWEVER, some cultures are ok with ignorance, or revel in their ignorance as if that means their country is so important that it's "natural" for them to not have to know other cultures or anything about them.
我同意你的观点,即世界上有聪明人和不那么聪明的人。然而,有些文化对无知习以为常,或者陶醉于他们的无知,仿佛这意味着他们的国家如此重要,以至于他们“自然而然”地不需要了解其他文化或任何有关别国的事情。

I get confused about the Baltic and eastern European countries. Europe in general can be confusing because there are so many countries packed into a small landmass. My wife is a whiz when it comes to geography. I think it is important to know where countries are, and then from their learn about their cultures and languages. What I've realized after living in Japan for several years is that the US and Japan are also pretty similar in terms of mentality. Mosty don't feel the need to look outward, as they've got everything at home. Sports, with their own teams and leagues, their own shows and variety shows, their lack of a second language, which creates a very inward-looking culture, and less interest towards foreign countries.
在日本生活了几年后,我发现美国和日本在心态上也非常相似。大多数人不觉得有必要向外看,因为他们国内已经拥有了一切。体育有自己的球队和联赛,有自己的节目和综艺节目,他们缺乏第二语言,这造成了一种非常内向的文化,对外国的兴趣也较少。

For people living in Japan, the only news that matter are things that have connection with Japan. South Korea and Thailand are places that Japanese people often travel to, which is why plane accidents and kidnappings become top news. Wars and disputes in faraway lands have no connection with Japan.
对于生活在日本的人来说,唯一重要的新闻是与日本有关的事情。韩国和泰国是日本人经常去的地方,这就是为什么飞机事故和绑架事件成为头条新闻。遥远国度的战争和争端与日本无关。

Translation is actually a difficult skill bc it's not just literal translation which often would make little sense a lot of times. Translators have to find equivalent phrases or in case of colloquial or idiomatic sentences, it can get really tricky. I have a very healthy respect for them.
翻译其实是一项很难的技能,因为它不仅仅是字面翻译,很多时候字面翻译会让人摸不着头脑。翻译者必须找到对应的短语,尤其是在处理口语或习语时,这可能会变得非常棘手。我对他们充满了深深的敬意。

I wouldn’t say this translation is diabolical or something. Yet still, they can totally translated it as sometimes, depends, time to times, or literally “depends on the day” as he said and English speaking audience would understood. Some might interpret as he doesn’t really care but it’s up to audiences. Then it’s good translation. You know which isn’t? You’re right there’s many things that are hard to translate to other languages. Especially from eastern cultures to western audiences. But I don’t see such obstacle in this case. And lastly I want to make one point. This translation especially feels kinda nasty because Japanese tends to downplay themselves. Which translator should be cautious about. And seems they didn’t cared enough about and let the convenience take over their craft. (And I think Japanese-English translation or vice versa to be full of lazy work. There’s many reasons and frustration around it but they are just not as honest like Russian translator for example.)

'Depends on the day" isn't a common phrase. Perhaps just "It depends" or "Depends on situation". I don't know to much Japanese, so I will take your word for it that the translation was wrong, and it could have been way better. I've watched a lot of K drama and I feel that most of the translations on Netflix are pretty good, and in some situations even though I might have disagreed initially, I realized that the translation took into account circumstances in the movie as well as the particular context of a given scene. That's when I began to appreciate the difficulty of translations for movies and such. It is waaaay more than just translating the words from one language to another.
“Depends on the day”不是一个常见的短语。或许可以说“It depends”或者“Depends on the situation”。我不太懂日语,所以我相信你说的话,这个翻译确实有问题,而且本可以翻译得更好。我看了很多韩剧,我觉得奈飞上的大部分翻译都相当不错。而且在某些情况下,即使我最初可能不同意,但后来我意识到翻译考虑到了电影中的情节以及特定场景的上下文,(这样翻译也是可以的)。那时我才开始意识到电影等作品的翻译难度有多大。这远远不仅仅是把一种语言的话翻译成另一种语言那么简单。

I think the fear of making a mistake gets in the way for so many people to be able to speak all the english they study for SOOOO LONG. English, like Japanese, is best learned through use. Writing alone doesn't do enough to get you to communicating. It's OK to make mistakes, and it's ok to not be perfect. That's how we learn to communicate even from when we are babies. Japan! Please try to challenge yourself to be ok with making mistakes. I try not to be! It's scary for me too with Japanese, but I get better when I try!
我认为,对犯错的恐惧阻碍了许多人运用他们学习了那么久的英语。英语和日语一样,最好是通过使用来学习。仅仅靠写作并不足以让你学会交流。犯错没关系,不完美也没关系。这就是我们从小学习交流的方式。日本!请试着挑战自己,接受犯错。我也在努力这样做!学日语对我来说也很可怕,但当我尝试时,我就会有所进步!
